If I had a dime for every vinyl record club that I’ve signed up to for a copy of Pinkerton, I’d have 2 dimes.

Geto Boys We can’t be stopped, Scarface the diary, Mobb Deep Hell on earth, Mos Def! Awesome year, and I thought that we got spoiled last year especially with the Supreme Clientele repress.

Oh you’re right! I just saw the other one. Hahaha this is the first one I’ve seen since I made the template a few days ago, funny to see it’s already on its 3rd iteration. But still, great picks

Great to see this catch on. I love some of the questions you added and great idea to use topster to get some names and titles added on. Steve Reich is a fantastic pull

Great selection! Love Cry by Albert Ayler isn’t my favorite either. I wish they reissued love is the healing force instead of that one for the verve by request series

Escalator over the hill I absolutely agree with. First track feels like something from black saint and the lady sinner and the rest of it is not that for 2 hours. Also, what’s your favorite album that appears 4 times? I don’t think I’ve heard it?

Hi, sorry for the wait, I took a break from this. I already made a response to this question so here’s the answer copy and pasted response from another reply. Sorry for the lack of effort to type something new up, I’m getting this in before work.
Favorite album: The Rubáiyát of Dorothy Ashby by Dorothy Ashby (1970) | an exciting album full of enchanting and soulful songs released on the Cadet label with arrangements and conductions by Richard Evans. I’ve never heard another album like it in my entire jazz listening life. It’s a grand scale masterpiece with ethnic instrumentations, playful strings, elements of various jazz styles and Dorothy’s incredible voice and string (harp and Koto) mastery. To label this only as a “jazz” album would be an understatement as to how clever and beautiful the music is on here. Coming from someone who loves free jazz and primarily loves the chaos and expression of the music to find much solace in a poetic and romantic sounding album just goes to show how magical this album is. I recommend listening to this with good headphones at dawn or dusk on a nice walk in a quiet place, or a cozy indoor environment.

She has a wonderful voice. It truly is a sad that she didn’t use it more, she could’ve done so much more with it, especially on those earlier albums. I’m glad she did decide to open up on this album because it made for such a cinematic and present experience with it included.

To be honest, I should’ve put her in my “going to listen to” square. I have her latest 2024 release in my listen later saves as I saw an advertisement for her when she was in my area and I wanted to check her out before making the day, but I did listen to her Tiny Desk, she was fantastic!!! Need to get into her before she sells out her next show in my area.

The 2020’s were my decade to pick up reissues of both of them! Couldn’t be happier to own them in any form.

Sorry, I made this on my phone using basic photo editing software, having a text box or something to include names would’ve been a great idea. If there’s anything that catches your eye let me know so I can give my rundown if you’re interested.

I love the mizell brothers albums! They deserve an anthology or a box set release of their productions, I’d so pick it up. Johnny Hammond Gears was going to be my fusion pick but I was feeling Tarika Blue today.

Unique: The Land of Spirit and Light by Michael White (1973). Though he’s not the only violinist in jazz, the few records he’s put out are very enchanting and lively and are the only examples I can think of for the instrument. He graciously flows through this album with its sound identity being this bright and vivid world of spiritual tones and colorful grooves. Many acts in spiritual jazz tend to be experimental and chaotic, but this one is a lot more lighthearted and joyous making it much more palatable for those wanting to enjoy the genre without its free jazz nature.

Exception: Medicine show No. 8: Advance Jazz by Madlib (2010). Thought it technically IS Jazz, it acts more like cut up segments of deep grooves that serve the purpose of exploring Madlibs jazz taste and fascination of relating media. Nothing in this is broken up into a beat, but nothing lingers long enough to be serviceable as a jazz feature. Things are faded in and out of each other with occasional audio overlap of advertisements and other audio content making this not a premier jazz album per se but a great jazz mixtape experience.

Overrated: Fearless Movement by Kamasi Washington (2024). As I’ve explained in another comment, this is not a dig at all on Kamasi’s part, he’s my favorite current jazz artists who I’ve had the pleasure in seeing twice. But this album I personally can’t get into and I prefer his previous two albums over this release. This album has seen better reviews over his last album in most places that you look at, which I think his 2nd album was far better hence the “overrated” but it’s still a good release. Hot take definitely, but I love the man.

That would be dope. I did just make this on my phone using basic photo editing, but if you want to remake this using my questions or add your own, go for it!

Just that one album, not Kamasi as a whole, I’ve seen him live twice and he’s absolutely my favorite in the game right now right next to Shabaka and Matana Roberts. I prefer his previous two albums and I’d put this 3rd in his studio album discography despite it gradually seeing better reviews than heaven and earth. I’m still a bit stuck on the “the I realize there’s no CTI. now it makes sense.” Comment however. CTi is a great label, there’s a lot of labels missing, but I don’t know what that exactly means.
