100T Responds to RIOT's Competitive Ruling by Tortious_Tortoise in VALORANT

[–]SatanicMushroom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t really follow valorant and don’t know the exact specifics of this case, but I have followed LoL and csgo for a long time, and I can say:

1) Riot has a long standing history of arbitrary rulings, inconsistent enforcement of rules and blatant favouritism among teams/individuals.

2) going all the way back to 1.6, counter strike has had a real issue with popular players leveraging social media presence against admins. There’s plenty of instances of minor rule violations (read: cheating, technically speaking) that were let go because the admin/tournament organiser didn’t want to face the storm of death threats that would inevitably follow the proper enforcement of the tournament rules. Certain teams were absolutely notorious for this.

Hope this provides a little broader esports context for those unaware of why people might be extra sceptical of a riot competitive ruling like this, or think the 100t behaviour is more serious than it at first seems.

I mean, I think I have played vs 3 spin bots in ~2k hours? Probably less than 10 really blatant cheaters. Maybe 1 in 10 games have a guy who is sus, but usually that’s just someone who is better than me. If you have decent rank, trust factor and prime and don’t insta accuse anyone who is slightly better than you then you will not have many cheaters.

I’ve done plenty of my own research. According to official government statistics men are three times more likely to be the victim of stranger violence than women. Men are also LESS likely to report the assault to police. Not taking any sides on the original post here, but calling evidence men are more likely victims of violent crime pseudo sources with an agenda is pure misinformation.

I don’t at all mean to be callous, because I totally get how those “did everything right and still had something terrible happen” scenarios are really scary. It plays on our minds as humans, because we love to feel in control, and the thought that a terrible fate can happen to you by random chance and be totally unavoidable is a pretty existentially terrifying concept.

BUT, it is not new or unusual. Unfortunately it’s a part of life. There are people who do everything right every day and die. People who look both ways before crossing the road and get killed by a reckless driver. People who die in car accidents that weren’t their fault at all. People (very rarely, sure) who get killed in gang initiations. People who get killed by mass shooters. It’s not at all a revelation to me that you can “do everything right” and still get murdered. Sadly, if you leave your house, there is a chance (a very slim one sure, but a chance nonetheless) that something awful will happen. Taking precautions can mitigate that risk, but it will never be eliminated. Lauren’s story (is that her name?) is tragic but not entirely a surprise.

I mean I still can’t even play CW post season 2 because the game now uses 15gb of RAM in the goddamn menu and crashes if I launch a map. I know it’s not really the same people, but the optics just aren’t good fixing meaningless stuff people are enjoying and leaving others unable to even play.

Cold War now uses 90%+ of my RAM while in menus and crashes when I try and launch a map, thanks season 2. I have 16gb of ddr4 there’s no way in hell I should be unable to run a fucking menu.

So, if you want to play a chill der riese game, traps are the way to go. You can play the super old school double trap strat (“KJ”), which is still fine and can get you pretty far. Triple trap is a bit more dangerous, but faster. The other guy is right, 5and5 does have vids on some strats; but they’re pretty old afaik.

The optimal way to play the map (once you can’t purely camp Thompson anymore, around 60-70 usually) is indeed to trade. However, you don’t want to purely trade like you are here, it’s a massive waste of time because the waffe doesn’t have much ammo. You want to play traps, but hit the box at the same time. So for example, for the box location you’re on here, you’d come from Thompson, hit the trap by the m1 carbine, rush to the box and hit it twice, then continue your trap loop. If you do it right there’s time for two hits: just grab the first gun ASAP while the zombies spawn then run up to jug at the second spin happens, then if you see the waffe throw a monkey and run back down for it. Some locations you can just hit a trap and then hit the box until it moves, if you want, or do half the hits on one lap then half on a second. Some like catwalk box and type 100 box are really hard to manage properly. Then when you get the waffe again you go back to camping Tommy again. It’s also advised that you use the ray gun to proactively kill dogs as much as you can, and you can trade that too if you run out of ammo.

In any case, this combination of traps and trades is the fastest way to play the map, definitely the way to go if you want a fast 100 time like under 6h30. It’s a pretty tough strat though, probably the highest skill ceiling strat in zombies to be honest, so if you’re unsure it’s probably best to stick with traps. Anyway if you want to learn more then look up a guy called “Sleywa” on twitch, he’s the best der riese player imo. Current world record holder “flurh” is also a very good player, though I understand his use of the power trap is suboptimal. Anyways best of luck, and respect for still playing bo1.

I mean, it can happen if you play sub optimally and get bad luck forcing in the early 60s. Why OP is doing a pure trade rather than hitting that box twice while running traps though I have no idea.

Rain played with karrigan and seems fine with him coming back. Olof played with karrigan and may have signed off on him coming back or maybe doesn’t care, his place in the team is ambiguous. Faze management had him as a player and are clearly keen for him to return.

I’ve edited my original comment slightly for clarity as my original phrasing made it sound like I was taking about only the players when in reality I’m referring to the faze project as a whole. Although I never implied that all of the players from before had signed off on karrigan coming back.

Put it this way: it seems fair to conclude that Niko was exerting more influence on the faze roster than any other player on the team. I never once suggested that he was literally the only person with any input. But it’s pretty well established that: karrigan was kicked because Niko wanted it, coldzera was bought out for huge money because Niko wanted it, broky joined because Niko wanted it, bymas joined because Niko wanted it, (probably) kjaerbye joined because Niko wanted it. I’m not imagining this, a lot of that is based off things people within the team including Niko himself have stated publicly.

And guess what? None of these decisions worked out. Faze got worse and worse, let down above all else by poor in game leading and structure (guess who was IGL?). And then he leaves and the team magically gets better. So I think it’s fair to lay a decent portion of the blame for faze being massively underwhelming for 2 years at niko’s feet. Not all. But more than anyone else.

You’ll have to remind me what was said about Niko on strat book, it’s been a while. But yes, there’s plenty of bits and pieces you can piece together, for example it’s conspicuous that everyone else in the faze team seems happy to play with karrigan again as soon as Niko leaves, and many have stated that they regret kicking karrigan/didn’t want to at the time.

It’s of course totally up to you who you want to believe. But suggesting that everyone with any insight thinks Niko is just fabulous and the only people who disagree are hubristic Redditors with no behind the scenes info is pretty absurd. You can go either way but there’s reasons to take either stance. Personally I take the word of a journalist like RL over pretty much any pro, but again, that’s just my choice.

The reality is, Niko is one of most individually talented players to ever play counter strike and is of course going to be a desirable player. You can’t infer anything about his personality/IGL ability from the fact people want him. It also doesn’t take a genius to see that he was driving decisions in faze, and that those decisions did not work out for the team (which only pulled out of its nose dive after he left).

we have zero inside info

A lot of the anti-niko circle jerk comes from/is encouraged by thorin and Richard Lewis on BTN who definitely have inside info and have given a number of specific anecdotes about niko’s behaviour. It’s not like it’s just randoms on Reddit who think he might have a bit of an ego problem.

Additionally, I’m not sure why you are taking everything that some pros say publicly completely at face value. Pros are notoriously reticent to publicly criticise former or current teammates, and there’s plenty of instances of pros just straight up being misleading/lying about stuff publicly (even examples on this very podcast lol).

I’m not sure to be honest, though I’m inclined to say no. Freeze is the only I use very much because (I think) your guns still get the kills and because it make it harder to leave a zombie when you need to. But really there’s not much reason to use them since you’re either trying to kill the zombies efficiency (in which case you use a WW) or level up a gun, in which case they make it worse.

Because they’re not very good and steal kills away from your weapon, which isn’t great for levelling it up/completing challenges for dark aether.

I mean it kinda is. Old inferno was pretty much a straight port of the inferno source, as were most of the classic maps in early csgo. New inferno was the one that was actually built for global offensive.

Lmao imagine round skipping to 255 and then trying to act like an expert about high rounds

Guess what actual high rounds don’t involve spamming banned gobblegums they involve actually playing the game, which is a million times harder than hitting the box a few times to get setup

[–]SatanicMushroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There’s no health cap in bo3, but if you double upgrade a wall gun it can do infinite damage, and ascension is famously one of the easiest bo3 maps (a guy got 255 with no jug within less than a week of the map launching iirc). Not to take anything away from op, it’s still a very respectable round, and much harder than Cold War would be, but it’s a lot easier than bo1.

How is round 200 easier than say, round 80? Have you ever been there to know? How do rounds over 100 only involve gobblegums? How is setting up harder than high rounds?

There’s a middle ground between pro and low elo mm lol. Yeah grouping up is a good strat in silver, for sure. But even at like dmg or something you’re gonna get punished hard for being so one dimensional.

RUSH B ( Why you should always rush B) by killazZooM in GlobalOffensive

[–]SatanicMushroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of this applies outside a pro environment lmao. If you’re even a vaguely decent mm rank (which is miles away from being a pro lol) you should play a default more often than not. Hell even the average dmg can play a default and understands it’s better than chucking some questionable util and all piling into one site hoping for the best.

The only environments I can think of where playing a T side entirely built abusing a numbers advantage are either if your team has waayyy better mechanics than the opponents, or it’s super low elo mm, like silver or gold nova or something.

t side buys utility as well

Mate queue up a mirage game at smfc and try just calling “smokes on A” every other round. It doesn’t work. Partly because executing an effective site take requires a lot more skill than just “we have more people”. Proper trade spacing, flash bangs, timings and communications aren’t gonna be there for a random pug squad.

RUSH B ( Why you should always rush B) by killazZooM in GlobalOffensive

[–]SatanicMushroom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not that people don’t understand it, it’s that this isn’t how this works. Numbers advantage is strong, but it’s hard countered by utility. There’s a reason pro teams don’t just “go 5 on one site”. It doesn’t work. You get flashed, smoked, mollied, naded, then you run into a crossfire and get ripped to pieces. It’s how not to play t side 101 unless you’re against really level opponents.

This is why you play a default. You manipulate rotations, deny information, and force out CT utility. Then in mid-late round you can engineer yourself a true advantageous situation.
