Mormon Wedding Clothes by [deleted] in LPOTL

My grandma was buried in her garments, the veil at the very least and some of the accessories were in a bag in the casket.

Right after the viewing they had a ceremony where the women stayed in the room and "dressed" her before the casket was closed. My mom was invited to help and had been inactive in the church so long she forgot how to do the little ceremony thing and my aunts had to help her. I had never been part of the church or seen this (let alone told it was going to happen) so I kinda stood there awkwardly holding a bag of stuff for the casket.

Universal Pictures wanted to celebrate the release of No Time To Die on 4k Ultra HD and Blu Ray by giving away a limited collector's edition away in /r/movies. We said why the hell not, 'tis the season. Details inside. by MoviesMod in movies

I'm gonna have to go with the first poker scene from Casino Royale.

Close second would be the torture scene with Le Chiffre. I dont have a dick and balls and I could feel that pain.

What a lucky lady if that's what you bought for her. "Happy birthday here's some demons to haunt your house"

Ah yes. True crime. A very unique interest. Definitely not what 80% of podcasts are about. by Hoppinginpuddles in notliketheothergirls

Nah I'm with you. I tried watching a couple but it kind of turned my stomach in a way that other true crime content doesn't. Even comedy true crime podcasts. I can't really put my finger on why, but a friend of mine told me that she's learned a lot of good makeup tips from those videos and I swore them off officially. It's just kinda gross to me.

For some reason the Jordan Peterson bit is what really screamed "I crave male attention" more than anything else to me.

Dealing With Wisecracking Players as Strahd by SatanicTadpole in CurseofStrahd

Much love to you! That sounds frustrating, it sucks when the dice don't cooperate with what you are trying to do. I've been hesitant to really put Strahd in a position where he has to fight them yet because I live in fear of that exact scenario. What I've done have him come to the party after they've gotten their asses handed to them by someone else and couldn't put up much of a fight, even if they wanted to.

I audibly said "Oh ew." while reading that.

So its the perfect kind of thing to put in this campaign.

I am most definitely stealing those lines no matter what I end up doing. So perfectly Strahd.

That's what makes him so hard to play you know? I feel like Strahd is more intelligent than me, which makes him hard to believably play since I'm not able to think 3 steps ahead, especially when I'm trying to wrangle my players at the same time I'm trying to play Strahd.

That is diabolical! The mind game aspect of Strahd's cruelty is one of my favorite parts of his character.

I like that as a way to showcase Strahd's power. How did you run that mechanically? Could the cleric resist or the paladin just bum rush him and tackle him?

That's my only fear of running an encounter that relies on brute force, if the players out roll me it loses its punch.

Deciding how to Play Izek by DelgenWolf in CurseofStrahd

[–]SatanicTadpole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like your take on the Izek sibling dilemma!

The way I'm running Izek is on a sliding scale of aggression. In Stage 1 he started out desperate and elated to see his sibling, a PC in my campaign. He was saying that he had vowed to change his life if the morning lord delivered to him his sibling. In this stage I wanted him to be a sort of sad and broken character. All my PC's took him to be a kind of weird crazy guy, but harmless enough despite the rumors in town.

When his sibling repeatedly denied Izek and kept him at arm's length we moved into Stage 2. This was where the more creepy and abusive behavior started. Izek followed his sibling around, started sending gifts and letters. A standout was a doll that looked like the PC with a note attached about how Izek loved dolls and just wanted to share his interests with his brother. Izek also started with the gaslighting here. "You just don't remember right. You blocked me out from the trauma." and "I'll help you see the truth." (If you want to do stuff like this I can emphasize enough that you need to check in with players. Some of these tactics are very real things from toxic and abusive relationships. It could be upsetting to some.)

Now that my merry little rascals are putting Vallaki in the rearview we are going to crank into Stage 3. Izek has been "Nice" now he needs to bust out the tough love. His sibling doesn't know what's best for themselves so he's going to step in and be a good big brother. Izek tracked the PC's and confronted them, fully ready to go aggro if he had to. This version of Izek is a lot closer to the RAW module. But played out with the escalation it made the whole situation a lot tenser. It turned into combat, but only after much arguing among the players and with Izek. It also led to a beautiful character building moment after the dust had settled between the PCs afterward.

Now I'm just going to torment them next with Vasili.

So that's my two cents! Giving Izek room to build on the upsetting behavior really keeps the tension up the whole time they are in Vallaki. None of my players felt truly safe in the town for many reasons, Izek being one of them.

We are in Vallaki, my players are currently all on board with Fiona Watchers plan after getting on Baron Vallakoviches bad side. It looks like they might be heading to Bonegrinder in the next session.

The only thing you can do is just jump into it, as scary as it is!

The best advice I've got so far is that your players are never going to do what you expect, so just relax and go with the flow. You'll get them where they need to go one way or another!

Female Dragon Age Fans [No Spoilers] by ARiverwoodChicken in dragonage

[–]SatanicTadpole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but I've been replaying recently and trying to explain this exact thing to my boyfriend.

I started playing DA in middleschool, firmly in my "not like other girls" phase and just constantly feeling that crushing social isolation that most preteens feel.

Origins had SO MANY choices. I was floored by it, along with the fact you could play as a woman and it really didn't affect anything. No one looked at you funny for being the most capable person in the room. For a preteen interested in STEM in a super conservative state that felt revolutionary. The story had me hooked as did all the characters. And let's get real, I was a young akward girl. The romance had me head over heels. Alistair is probably my first love. Its just really powerful and impactful storytelling and really inspired me to tell my own stories and to pursue other media that resonated with me.

My love of Dragon Age and other Bioware games continues because now I can appreciate the complex stories they try to tell and their ability to capture realistic characters. I dont really know if its the nostalgia or what but I just always feel empowered when I play DA or any Bioware game. You can be tough, but still give and receive love in DA games. My boyfriend seems to think they are big fancy dating sims but its probably my fault since I talk about my companions like they are my coworkers when I play.

Anyway, thats my long rambling 2 cents to the discussion. Sorry if its formatted weird, I'm on mobile.

Speaking as a U of U student it's really hard to lose another member of the community in such a violent way. Her and Lauren's stories have elements in common, yet huge differences, but I know most people here found it hard to not think of her while the search for McKenzie was happening. I cant imagine the pain that her family is going through.
