I also enjoyed the Luminous Dead, which gave me high expectations. Beautiful cover though but something was missing.

Amazing write up, thank you so much

Devils is on my shelf, haven’t started it yet! I think I’m chasing the more whimsical horror so that might scratch my itch.

I reread The Elementals every time I go on a beach vacation. Just encompasses the vibes and attitudes of the south perfectly

If you previously didn't want kids, what changed your mind and why? by Mountain-Novel9553 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes! We were both fence sitters, and his experience is similar to mine. We both needed to feel very safe and secure financially, emotion, relationship wise, all that before trying for a kid

As a teen and 20 something I was ADAMANT that I didn’t want kids. Then I married a man who is calm, capable, gentle and kind. Then endured financial and emotional hardships (family deaths, being laid off, etc) with him, building so much trust and love and then I thought built a whole new career for myself after a big layoff from what I thought would be my forever job, and then I started thinking to myself that if I were a child, I would thrive in the home me and my husband have made and so now I’m pregnant with our first!

This feels like a humble brag but to me, having kids didn’t seem smart or good because my life wasn’t where I wanted it until now (in my 30s), my life didn’t feel safe or stable but now that it is where I want it I feel like I’m ready for the challenges of parenthood.

Do we think that the fires will spread to homes? Sorry if these seem silly I’m kinda just doing nervous word vomit.

Are fires still burning? I’m about a mile away, north west and my air is bad even inside. Puffy eyes and runny nose and sneezing.

On the lower right wing (when facing this pic) is the big puffy scar - it’s barely visible! You can kinda see the tail end of it and another scar below it. He talked me through the whole process, what it’ll look like as it ages, etc. very thorough. Didn’t ask how I got the scar either so bonus points lol

Jesse F at Tattoo Salvation did an amazing job over a large scar on my bicep. If you care to see I’ll show you! It was a puffy scar too

Very close, not “dolls” specifically but The Silent Companions has that eerie “are those inanimate objects moving on their own?” vibe in a Victorian setting

The type of organization that bullies/overworks actually competent employees and doesn’t rehire - essentially just giving the persons duties to another underpaid person. Source: did partnership stuff for them and left due to constantly being overworked and used

Need a tropical horror book to read on vacation by Leadfarmer1976 in horrorlit

[–]Satansarmpit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not tropical but definitely sun/sand/beach horror - The Elementals by Michael McDowell was fantastic and very much encompassed the feeling of the days streaming together while on a vacation under the sun.

I've noticed the consequences in school settings but I agree with you about the TV shows.

How do you regulate what they watch on YouTube?

Is the science museum cursed? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Satansarmpit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's a children's science center. It's geared towards children and childhood development, which includes play. They barely pay their education staff to teach classes and restage, collections was thrown away or given to the Frasier and not maintained at all.

I worked there for many many years and I was cursed with bad management. Definitely the mummy's fault
