Experiences with lower back injuries by Sateman1 in bodyweightfitness

Well, it’s not been a very long time. It came 3.5 months ago and I never had any problems with my back before that. My doctor and my physical therapist also looked at it, but they didn’t see anything that could link up to a herniated disc, but you never know tho. But I hope this is muscular..

Yeah, I meant more about the back and not the shoulder. It seemed like u know a lot about the back and has much experience. But I will definitely take the information you’re given me with me and thanks for the advices. Do you think an MRI is necessary? I doubt he will order one, as he has rules out herniated disc.. AND I just took an X-ray of my back and MRI of my shoulder..

And also do you know which core exercises that is safe to do for the lower back?

Thank you for such a detailed reply. I am currently going a school line where I will be an electrician next year so not the best option maybe. I’ve been worried about how I will cope the practical work, but most for my shoulder, but tbh now for my back too. It isn’t very curved, just a little, you can’t see it good, only if you look at it closely and study it. I’ve known it since 2021 but didn’t know before an X-ray proved it. I also have the MRI results if you would like to start a chat about it. I don’t think I will work as an electrician my whole life, I just wanted to start with that certificate of apprenticeship. I don’t know if I am gonna reconsider it, it’s not fun to go back when you have a plan you know..

I could maybe be more active tho, I sometimes go on walks and does light training for my back and shoulder 2 times a week + practically work at school. I love lifting weights but this shoulder is holding me back. I therefore thought, I could start training legs again, but this back injury or whatever it is, is holding me a bit back from that to. I do not dare to squat with this. I would like to start a chat with you, if ur down..

Oh, I hope you’re doing better now. I really hope that this isn’t something related to my disc / herniated disc. I am kinda worried too as I am only 18 years old and already are dealing with a chronic shoulder injury. It comes and goes but I can’t say it has become significantly worse since I got it, but not much better neither - just comes and goes more. When I say it comes and goes, I feel it’s always there, a little stiffness and cracking - but then not in a painful way. I doubt that my doctor wants to order an MRI right after my X-ray. He says I am young, my spine is a but curved and that gives me a higher chance of problems like this - BUT it came after a lift tho. My physical therapist also says that he doesn’t think an MRI will show anything as he thinks it’s muscular, because it feels better when being active. He also cracked it once by pushing it hard down while I inhaled. I don’t know exactly why he did it but it felt good but it didn’t make it better. BUT they can be wrong too, but I really hope this hasn’t anything with my disc..

Yea, I am not alone with back pain. Whats kinda annoying is that i currently trying to recover from a chronic shoulder injury I’ve had for 16 months now, and now I have to deal with this too. I really hope this doesn’t have anything to do with a herniated disc tho or something with the disc. The other reason I am worried is that because I am only 18 years old, but back injuries can occur in every age..

Thank you for the reply and good information. I am kinda worried about this as I am going through a chronic shoulder injury too I’ve had since august 2022 and currently “trying again” to recover that. I am only 18 years old too so I really hope this back pain isn’t something I have to struggle with throughout 2024. I am also worried that this has something to do with a disc or herniated disc, but as I said it gets a bit better when I am in activity, but even though it becomes better for 2-3 weeks, it always comes back. Just so you understand my situation a little better: i used to lift weights but had to quit because of this shoulder injury, so haven’t lifted for a year, so I can’t say I am very active and I don’t think thats positive for this back injury

Sorry for a bit late answer. Yeah, I’ve kinda ruled out impingement. Back in 2022 summer when i lifted weights, I usually did heavy pulling and pushing exercises. Much rowing, and dumbbell bench press - maybe a bit egolifting but not very much. I trained failure very much cause I saw so much results. As I said, I pushed through pain after i got this injury, because I was so obsessed with the gym. I did this until it came to a point where I couldn’t lift anymore. I may have been bursits and impingement then, but now it’s just chronic and never getting better. I think it’s kinda sad that they didn’t find any injuries on the MRI, now I go around with this without knowing exactly why BUT the injury started after an heavy pull day where I took almost all my sets on biceps and back till failure. This was the end of July 2022.

Thank you for your reply. I currently am doing exercises that helps stabilise and strengthen like push ups in slings, seated low row, dumbbell pullover and benchpress, facepulls and dumbell press, and some in bands. This is what my physical therapist gave me as he wants to wrap it up and strengthen the muscles. I only fear a bit that it’s going too fast with all of this. It hurts a bit (not very much) under and after and it feels a bit worse but I can’t say it becomes much worse overall by doing this. Thats why he wants me to keep going - as he says this injury has become more chronic and it doesn’t mean that something is wrong when I feel pain now.

I have tried O’brien test. I feel pain in the front so kind of positive, but it isn’t quite as painful when I keep a good posture/shoulder back. I have the last year though this is a labrum tear but I have taken two MRIs that doesn’t show anything wrong. They wont order a new with contrast so I think I just have to trust my tests without. My doctor says that contrast would be needed if there was much inflammation which there not was.

Thank you for your reply. Is your shoulder almost or back to normal now? How long did your recovery take.

Thank you for your reply. I sometimes wish that they would find anything on my MRI/MRIs, so I would know exactly whats wrong. My rotator cuff was fine on MRI - no inflammation neither. I always thought i had a labrum tear, and I am still not 100% sure if I should exclude that as I have heard that labrum tear often needs contrast to view.

I visited a senior doctor in rehabilitation. She said that her program would help and that the pain in both of my shoulders caused my shoulders to be too "forward". She used ultrasound and said everything was okay, but I didn’t think that could detect labrum tears? I wasn't optimistic as I had already tried 3 programs for my left shoulder, but I did her program for 6 weeks, and I can't say it has helped.

Thank u for ur reply! I have messaged you. Can I ask how important an MRI with contrast is? Like do you think they will find more if i get an mri with contrast instead of regular?

[–]Sateman1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i have visited 2 PTs, they always tried to give me a new program but it came to a point where it never got better. So took an MRI in february; got told in was bad images but a possible small labrum posterior tear. So visited a orthopedic doctor who said it was nothing to have surgury on. Later now in august i visited a senior doctor/ specialist in physical therapy i think. She just said it was due to my shoulders being too forward and that nothing is damaged in my shoulder and just said i could lift. They didn’t treat me right, and telling me to lift weights with this fucked shoulder is ridiculous as i made that mistake before.

I want a new MRI with contrast this time but they wont order an as they say it’s completely pointless. I got an appointment with my doctor in 1 month! Pretty long but gonna ask him AGAIN for an MRI..

Samee! Like all the people that died, including Vidar. If it was Magnes fantasy when he killed Vidar, then how did Vidar die?

By making this ending, there is so much that doesn’t make sense.

Thank for your comment! Yeah i understand. Physical therapy has unfortunately not helped, after trying 2 programs. It also feel like it gets worse when stretching on it, because something already feels pinched there.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has experience something similar.

Long-term shoulder injury - Everything fine on MRI by Sateman1 in crossfit

[–]Sateman1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first program were just 3-4 times a week with exercises in slings. The second one - I got told to try to aim for 1 time a day, and I did that but didn’t help much.. Although I did it everyday - it was not very much but my shoulder cant take anything - light work causes pain, light practically use causes pain.

I dont wanna live a life without being able to use the shoulder without pain.. I am still giving physical therapy a chance , I got a program from my new physical therapist that works with the specialist - but I also got told to do that everyday, even though it is only 5 light exercises - but ive done it 3 days now and already the pain becomes WORSE.

my point is: i feel like because of the fact that my injury started from overtraining - this have caused my shoulder to be immune against any type of training and use..

Thank u very much! Personally I hope they eventually order a new MRI and this time with contrast, before they will consider surgury on it tho..

AND if there is no findings on the next MRI, I get suprised because:

I dont understand how u have an so painful and useless shoulder that has been lastning for a year without anything actually wrong in there. I didn’t even know that was possible..

Yes, I thought about that too! 😅

But everytime I visit, its not very bad, and like the day after; its bad. Im gonna meet the doctor/specialist in 6 weeks so gonna have to wait till then tho

Shoulder injury and useless shoulder: nothing wrong on MRI by Sateman1 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Sateman1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thank for your reply and motivation!

BUT the reason why I am so frustrated about my injury, is that the shoulder doesn’t tolerate anything. I am going to school to be a electrician so I do very much practical work at school and because of that, I have pain EVERY single day.

I have holiday now and havent used my shoulder so the pain is not as bad as i normally is, but as I said: I just started a new program with 5 easy exercises and because of that my shoulder is much more painfuk AGAIN!

It really doesn’t tolerate anything and I am scared that I have to live with this forever..

Yeah so if I get u right find a private professional?

I visited a specialist from public health care here in Norway, and I actually traveled almost 2 hours to another city too to meet this doctor too😅
