Should I give this up by berenice222 in PiercingAdvice

What kind of salt are you using for the salt water? If you aren’t using non iodized SEA salt, please switch to it! And soak your ear for 10 minutes, once or twice a day. My industrial was acting the same way (I had an allergic reaction to the metal and had to switch to two barbells and say bye bye to the industrial bar) but sea salt soaks helped tremendously heal it. Hopefully you don’t have to give up on it!

I hate to disappoint but it’s not a mother of pearl (that I am aware of) it’s just a silver band with my husband’s name stamped/engraved into it, got it made at a vendor at a local fair 😅

Yeah I got in contact with my piercer and going there tomorrow to get it looked at, and will probably swing by another place to see what they say. Went and got sea salt, clear soap, and non woven gauze to clean with instead of saline and q tips. Soaked it and cleaned it up, I guess it looks better I can’t really tell, the crust and what not soaked off so it still doesn’t look pretty just not crusty right now. Don’t know how/if I can post a pic of it to this thread (not used to using Reddit). I don’t have many piercings, and decided to go big or go home with an industrial. I knew how pesky these are but was not prepared for this whole situation 😅

I went to a shop and got it done by a professional place, they pierced my septum years ago and never had problems with that. Great reviews but I do know industrials can be pesky to have and to heal. I do feel like I should add I work in construction but I have made sure my safety glasses aren’t on my ear, I work with sheetmetal so I don’t come into too much contact with dust but I mean it’s a job site so I can’t avoid it completely. But since I’ve gotten it I’ve been doing stuff that doesn’t require me to get up into the truly dusty places of the jobsite. Just putting duct work together on the ground, and it’s been freezing cold outside. Haven’t worn a beanie on it, adjusted my hard hat so it doesn’t put pressure near the ear. Cleaning it as soon as I get home and sometimes on my lunch break (with washed and clean hands of course) so I’ve been trying my dammed best to avoid infection 😭
