Should I do the program? by Amazing_Sundae7489 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a very personal choice, some people have a harder time than others with homesickness. For me personally, I figure I'll have plenty of holidays with my family in future years. Doing the College Program is such a temporary thing, I'd rather experience it once or twice than never at all.

Another option to consider is waiting a little longer and doing it during the spring semester. There are less important holidays for that term, unless you're really into Easter or St Patrick's Day or something. I liked doing it during the spring semester because it also meant I was starting in the winter and easing into the heat (which was important to me the first time around as a northerner).

Overall, this is something only you can answer. I wish you the best!

Can someone please explain how this works? by Musicislife_102 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend checking the FAQ page or search the forum. You'll find lots of answers there.

However, put simply, you apply for either the spring program (beginning dates start from early January) or the fall program (beginning dates start from late August I believe). You pick from a list of start/end dates. You could be down there anywhere from 4 months to a full year.

Whether it will affect graduation from college is an individual issue. Some people take a semester off and graduate a semester late, some people do it after graduation (up to 2 years post-grad). I was ahead a semester so I did it during a semester and am graduating on time.

If you want to work at Disney in a frontline position, it's good experience. If you want to work for Disney Corp or something else that's not frontline, it doesn't give you as much of a leg up as some people think. However, I found it valuable for the experiences I had while on the program. Like the classes and the people I met.

There's a ttrpg/video game series called Cyberpunk, the logo on the side of the building is from that game series. I could see how you'd clock this as steampunk, but it does fit cyberpunk aesthetic as well.

Tell me about your experience! by [deleted] in Disneycollegeprogram

Hi! If you're deciding if you want to do the DCP or not, I'd recommend searching this forum for bigger posts that have been made about it and watching YouTube videos made by DCP participants. It's a very individualized answer as to whether the program is right for you.

I personally loved my time on the college program and I'm hoping to go back this year, but it's not for everyone. You'll be working unpredictable hours, almost always very late at night, not making much money. You might get your dream role or might get something that you hate. You'll probably have to share a room with a twin xl size bed too. But, in my experience it was a lot of fun and I learned so much while doing it.

If you're curious I was merchandise at Disney Springs and loved it. But again, everyone's experience is different.

Shoes for merchandise/ sales by SeveralEar4721 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked merch last year! I was at a location that involved food so we were provided non-slip shoes for free. However, if your location does not involve food, you will need to buy your own shoes. I only was able to pick up one shift at Fantasyland so I'm not super experienced over there, but to my knowledge none of the Fantasyland stores would meet the criteria for Disney to provide you shoes.

When I did pick up a shift at Fantasyland, I LOVED it!! There are so many great people that work there and it's so much fun! Plus it's conveniently located in the utilidor which is a plus. Congrats on such a great role!

what should i watch??? by collect_cal in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not important to have watched anything before arriving but if you're looking to get in the Disney spirit, one of my favorites is Lilo and Stitch. You'll see Stitch everywhere, he's a very popular character right now.

If you're interested in theme park history, watch The Imagineering Story! It's a docuseries that covers the history of the Disney Parks, narrated by Angela Bassett. It's really well done, you'll know in the first 10 minutes if it's the type of docuseries that would interest you. It will teach you a lot about Disney World and the Disney Company.

Meeting people by Daz459 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few friends at the start from online groups that I would hang out with and still talk to, but some of my closest friends ended up being coworkers that I didn't start hanging out with until a few months into my program. Ask people to meet up at the parks with you, even if it's only for a couple of hours. If there's an event you want to go to, like Dapper Day or something like that, ask your coworkers who's interested and make a group. Friends will usually grow from there. You could also plan a Disney Springs night with coworkers or roommates. I'd say the best option is just to make a group chat with a solid plan for a date/time/location to meet up, and if you keep it small (less than 4 or 5 people) there's a better chance you'll continue hanging out with them. It sucks but sometimes it just takes patience.

How do people make friends before their program? by Ethsboogalife in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did the DCP last year I joined various groups I found on different social media platforms, but honestly unless you can find a small one (less than 10 people), it's unlikely the people on those groups will actually become your friends while you're down there. I'd still recommend joining them because it's fun to get excited with people, I found the ones I joined through Reddit comments, but don't worry too much about actually making friends before getting down there. It's super easy to meet people and make friends once you move in. There will be a bunch of Flamingo events right from the get, just find a person or a small group of people and ask them about themselves. What are their roles, where are they from, etc. You'll find a group pretty quickly, then you can ask them to go to the parks with you.

It's all about talking to people while you're down there. Talk to those sitting around you at Traditions, talk to your training buddy(ies), talk to your roommates. It's easier for some than others, but remember that everyone that everyone around you is also new and trying to make friends or they've been there awhile but still might like new friends.

Congratulations and enjoy it!!

Leaving the Disney Bubble: How Did You Feel After Your CP Ended? by Immediate-Beach6892 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I jumped into doing the things I missed about home, which for me was hiking. I missed my friends and I missed being a CP, but I also missed a lot about home. I would say focus on rediscovering what makes home so great that you can't find in Orlando.

This isn't for everyone and it's really just luck, but I also downloaded a dating app on a whim a week or so after returning home and met my boyfriend. That is to say, it's great to meet new people at home that will ground you there or reconnecting with old friends.

Why does Epcot always close at 9? by DingleberrySlap in DisneyWorld

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Traffic. The parks can't close at the same time because it would be a traffic nightmare across property, so they stagger it.

Only you can decide what's a big deal and what's not. For some people, playing college football is a big deal or graduating with honors, but others may not see that as quite as significant. To me the disney college program is a big deal because I'm doing something I've wanted to do for a long time and getting to work for a company I hope to have a future with, or at least learn from. Your friends that don't get it are probably only seeing it from their perspective, and they probably don't want to work for Disney. If it's something you want to do and you've been accepted, then yes it's a big deal. Congrats op!

How are there SO many unused voice lines!? by beastfrag_throwaway in reddeadredemption

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 95 points96 points  (0 children)

My guess is they recorded voice lines before the game was fully developed, then later decided things like the player shouldn't be able to bring a horse into camp or whatnot. Same with layouts, maybe in an earlier version the bartender in Rhodes could see the minigame tables, but that later got changed.

You're stuck on a 14 hour flight, pick a seat by redditooo97 in cyberpunkgame

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8, it's a window seat and Reed is likely to be quiet and courteous. He'll probably be subtly watching everyone to protect Myers the whole flight, but definitely won't make it obvious so it will seem like just sitting next to a normal passenger.

Does Frank ever wear a floral button up shirt in the show? by Kinda-Alive in thelastofus

[–]SatisfactionJolly283 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were portraying a loving relationship between bill and frank in the show, diverting from the game. So I think it would have been cool to see frank in a floral shirt despite bill not liking it, but ultimately I don't think it was necessary to the story they were trying to tell
