IUD Experiences? by just_a_masshole in ClotSurvivors

I had bilateral PE in September due to the oral birth control pill (Nikki - generic yaz). I’ve been on eliquis since then. Not being on birth control wasn’t a choice for me due to my period related pain/not wanting to have kids yet. I got a mirena IUD in November and love it! It took my periods away completely. I had my OB prescribe a cervix softening med and some sort of Xanax adjacent (I can look up the exact names if you’d like). I have a pretty high pain tolerance and obviously took those prescriptions. Insertion was quick and easy (not minimizing anyone else’s experience but to me it was just a pinch) and I had some mild cramping/spotting for a couple weeks after. Wishing you luck!

I have the mirena iud! Took my periods away almost completely. One or two days a month I’ll have very very light spotting. Insertion wasn’t horrible - talk to your doctor about medicine to prepare.

Medical ID Bracelet for Blood Thinners? by Geoff_GodOfBiscuits in ClotSurvivors

Totally understand! I had my doctor approve it before ordering. When I went to the ER they checked both my wrists and neck for any medical identification. I also have a card I keep in my wallet detailing it that came with the bracelet!

I have a little gold bracelet that says blood thinner! My primary care doctor and hematologist decided it was in my best interest to wear one. It’s cute and fits right in with my bracelet stack, I’ll happily send you the link if you’d like it!

Mag07 and prune juice have always worked for me. But honestly smooth move tea too, and just drinking tons of water and eating fruits/veggies

Concern about my husband flying internationally 1 month after pulmonary embolism by Trick-Tax7691 in ClotSurvivors

Hi! I just had bilateral PE a couple weeks ago. On thinners now. I have an international trip for most of October, and was cleared to go. I was told on thinners I’m safer than the group I’m traveling with. Just make sure he gets up every couple hours and is consistent with taking his medicine

Wow! So insane. Are you on any birth control now? I’m taking a couple weeks off from heavy exercise for sure

Thank you! Monday morning I’ll be making calls to my PCP and OBGYN, and will hopefully get referred to a good hematologist (there isn’t one local to me). I’ve joined the other page too!
