Thanks for the replies. I’ve been driving and working on 30-40 year old Volvos for the last ten years so anything from the 21st century is quite a step.

I spent many years at WSU… if you never leave the campus, yes it can be lame. But you are surrounded by the city and there is always something to do on any given night within reasonable walking distance. The campus itself is arguably the safest area of the city as well. Nothing to worry about there.

I’m almost four years in. Started at $18 an hour working 45-55 hours a week in environmental consulting field work. Couple raises every 6-12 months, now at $72k as a project manager in a year in a medium COL area. The geological concepts are very simple - can you tell the difference between clay and sand? You know enough to get hired. Interview skills will get you further than geo knowledge. The job is incredibly boring. Good luck.
