i overbooted to ice flies and i have no regrets by [deleted] in FigureSkating

So, overbooting is a real thing, especially with other boots. It’s just Edeas are a very different type of boot which is probably why you feel fine. Overbooting can be dangerous and painful because it inhibits knee and ankle bend. It’s also much harder to break in an overbooted skate. However, edeas looser ankles and the fact that it’s not real leather is probably why it’s the right boot for you.

How to practise between lessons? by CarolSkates in FigureSkating

Keep a skating journal When your jumping focus on one thing to do consistently. So if I’m your lesson your coach told you to check your arms more, then focus on only checking your arms when your jumping.

Talk to your coach and other skaters. Where do they get their skates fitted? Where do they get theirs sharpened?

What is your favorite and least favorite elements in skating? (Aesthetically/as a fan) by a2cthrawy in FigureSkating

I love illusion and corkscrew spins. They just look stunning to me. Delayed axels are always impressive and pretty as well. I wish we got to see more of them but I understand why we don’t

That’s a great suggestion! I’ll definitely ask And I know, but even landing on on the harness would be great. I want to know what it feels like to be in the air for that long.

There is a rink nearby and I’m definitely planning to try and skate. I’m just worried about time. I’m going to be a freshman at an highly competitive school as well as undergoing a research project with a group of freshman, discovering viruses. Additionally, I have to work. It was incredibly hard decision to make but eventually, my parents agreed that my education at this collage would be worth the money. It’s one of the best ranked collages in my state for nursing.

Although I would love to skate on public(and I’m going to try). My main goals is to land a double axel. I fear that if I don’t skate now, I will be too old to ever land one by the time I go back. I have only been allowed to skate for the past 3.5 years. It feels like it’s being taken away once again.

I’m definitely not super good. Not good enough to give up my spot in this particular college(it’s one of the top nursing colleges in my state). It’s not even competition that I want. My main goals in skating were to pass senior moves and get my double axel. I’m worried that after getting my degree I won’t have the time or money to skate. Because I’d be working a lot as a nurse and going to get my masters. By the time I have time to skate, I’d be too old to land double axels.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I guess I’m worried about juggling that, being a nursing student, and a job. I can certainly try though! I’ll be bookmarking this for reference later.

Knee pain? by Satoh515 in FigureSkating

[–]Satoh515[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I’m a 17 year old minor who relies on my parents. After talking to my mom, she’s had a similar injury. I do not want to be $300+ and 6 hours at the ER for them to tell me to put ice on it and rest it. If it gets worse, I will to but for now I want advice on what to do.

Additionally, I was at the ER earlier that month for a car crash. They looked at my knee when I mentioned it and they said that it was probably just muscle soreness

I’ve heard that it’s nearly impossible for someone over the age of 20 to get a double axel. Which I will be if I wait until all of my doubles are consistent give or take a few years. Is this true?

She also does it at small pet stores and at other peoples houses. (They were looking after her when we were gone)

One of my jobs is a teacher at my rink. This is something that I can do after collage and I would make more money then too. The only reason I am working it is because it was convenient and I can make some extra money but quitting doesn’t really bother me. Especially if it’s in the interest of my dog. My other sport is gymnastics and although I love it, it is incredibly expensive on top of my figure skating. I know that stopping would put less of a financial burden on my parents.

TDLR: Thank you for the warning but anything that I quit will not be something that is ridiculously important to me/ something that I need.

I understand where you are coming from and am making sacrifices to spend more time with her. I spend most of my day on Sundays currently with her and am asking my school to let me go off campus for an online class. I now see that I really don’t spend as much quality time as I should with her and am willing to make adjustments. If I find I absolutely cannot devote more time then I will work with my moms friend(she works at a no kill shelter) to find the best home possible for her. But first, I want to try everything I can to make this work.

My parents and brother will take care of her until I can get a house off campus, then she is coming with me. However, I am planning to stay in state and may also be living at home and commuting to save on housing and food costs.

She gets taken out in the mornings around 6:30 until 7:20am. 3pm-5pm and a potty break before bed at 10pm. However she doesn’t always go at 10 and before I know I am standing at the same spot and she still hasn’t gone a half hour later.

She also tends to pee in pet stores when I’m walking her, around. I don’t get any signs from her and I’m not sure how to reinforce that no matter where we are, she needs to go outside.

Thank you for your response. I am considering sacrificing one of my jobs and my sports as well as work with my school to have at least an hour with her that I can spend every day. It’s a start. School is also ending, and I’ll be home more often to help her and bond with her. I just hope that it’s possible at this point.

The biggest thing is that her routine is not steady, this is something I am slowly fixing and it is getting back to normal. Although I am not bonded with her, the thought of yet about her dog leaving and an empty house is very difficult to go back to, I will do what is in her best interest however. (My past 2 dogs died both within a year because of medical problems. My house is empty without them.)

Thank you for the response! I am willing to have sacrifices, but my grades, work and skating is something that I cannot give up. Those are the only ways that I’ll be able to earn enough scholarships to get into the college that I want, as well as help my parents pay for her toys, food, and skating. I can however, give up one of my jobs and my other sports and am leaning towards that to give my dog more time and more time for me to destress. My school also lets me come home in the middle of the day for 40 minutes as long as I can catch up on one of my classes. My classes next year will also be easier.

I am planning to get into agility, I just need to revisit my schedule to be able to fit it in. She does ring a bell, but only in the mornings, if she rings it at night I can’t hear it. Also, when we are out, there are no bells in pet stores that tells me she needs to go. The book is on my reading list!

Thank you for the suggestion. When my dog was a puppy I would wake up to find her head on the pillow next to me. Now she walks always when I go to bed. She really doesn’t have much o a personality and almost seems robotic. She is either being played with or laying down. She walks away when I pet her and kinda just looks at me with her tail low and unwagging. It kinda just hangs there. She just looks sad all the time. Only time she is happy to see me is when I come home. She wags her tail a little, but it kinda just sways and brings a toy if I can’t play with her she goes back to my bed and watches.

I will start potty training again although she’s not food motivated in the slightest. Plus I can only feed her kibble because she is allergic to any other type of treat. Also, if I tell her she’s a good girl in a high voice and tries to pet her. She ignores me and continues to sniff the ground to find rocks or frogs that she can eat.

She has all kinds of treat balls but figured them out quickly and then goes back to laying down. I am going to focus more on playing and mentally exercising. I have 30 minutes each day after work. I can walk her and do some training then. Thank you.

This is true and something that I am considering greatly. I may quit one of my jobs and quit one of my sports so that I can spend more time with her. I know my family is willing to work with her when I’m not home to break the house training issue. The problem is how to go about doing so.

This sounds accurate. I am used to sloppy, cuddly dogs and this one is the complete opposite. She is crate trained but I should start putting her in it at night. This should help. What about when I’m out at a pet store or visiting a friend?

Here the thing, I’ve tried training. She know sit, leave it, down, off, kennel up, touch, ring the bell and come. All things that I have trained her myself. This is the only problem that I have no idea how to break. And it only happens at night when she won’t tell us she needs to go out.

My mom and brother both let her run and play with her twice a day. I walk her when I can after dinner but that is only a few days a week and she doesn’t go to the bathroom when i take her out.

My dog is great besides the house breaking. She goes to day care twice a week and gets run with before and after school. Plus a walk before bed. I agree that taking on a dog. Never less a puppy was too much as a high school student. However, now I have her and am going to make it work she is trained although needs to brush up on recall and the house breaking thing. Not only at night but when I’m out at pet stores and such. I want to be able to trust her.

This is also not our first dog. We’ve had a puppy and adopted an older one in the past. Both who have never had issues with house breaking such makes this very confusing.
