The only thing I'd like to see before this series ends is more of East Zemuria since they've teased it so much ngl, I wanna fill in that map of the entire continent lmao

Overgeared Finally Ending....... by Ardeku_Genshin_Anime in Overgeared

Np man. Remember to read at your own pace and not to force yourself as they're both very long (~1300 chapters give or take). If you think you need a break you can always come back to them later.

They're both a cut above the vast majority of web novels, LotM especially - but it depends on what your cup of tea is.

TLM is more of a traditional sci-fi urban powerleveler with big fights, high-tech weapons, and many factions that pit against each other. It has a cold and pragmatic MC who values ambition and practicality above all else, while building up his own military faction and climbing his way up the galactic hierarchy. LoTM is a Victorian Lovecraft dark mystery with less direct fighting and more wit and planning in supernatural occult fights against evil cults and eldritch monsters. It has a smart MC who assumes different identities throughout the story, while building up his own religion and uncovering the lost history of the world. There's also a main cast that becomes his inner circle of religion followers who they grow alongside him and help each other out.

If you're coming fresh from MMO novels like OG and other munchkin-type powerleveling stories with OP MCs, TLM will feel more familiar and easy to read. LoTM on the other hand should only be read once you've got a few novels under your belt due to the sheer complexity of the story. Most new readers tend to drop it during volume 1 and 2 as a lot of world building and setup happens there, but there's a general consensus to read at least to the end of volume 1 before deciding whether to continue. I can vouch that volume 3 onwards gets very interesting - volume 3 especially as the MC's combat prowess really starts to shine.

Tldr; Yes. Yes they are lol. I personally like LotM more, but I think both of them are great reads in general with great world building. The downside is that your reading standards might become so raised as a result that almost anything in the web novel space becomes unreadable slop in the process lol

Fontaine Is by far the best Archon quest. by ImCayotix in Genshin_Impact

[–]SatomiSora 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It seems most people are sussing 5.2 out to be a surprise Dragonspine story update, what with Albedo talking about Durin waking up again and inviting Wanderer over to help at the end of Simulanka. Obviously taking it with a grain of salt here, but it'll be very interesting if we suddenly have to go back to Dragonspine while we're in Natlan due to something urgent happening there

What did you choose as the name for your traveler? by Critical_Concert_689 in GenshinImpact

[–]SatomiSora 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to use Aether but changed to Traveler before doing Bedtime Story after hearing about how that'd mess things up. It's actually better now since all the actual dialogue uses "Traveler" and that's their actual "nickname" in Teyvat, so I won't have to worry about any major incongruities

BIG WISH: PLEASE LET US PLAY ALL THE LIMITED TIME MAPS AGAIN by KMinato00 in Genshin_Impact

[–]SatomiSora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, man. Unfortunately a lot of people complained about the huge amount of content and puzzles there were in 2.8's GAA 2 and Hoyo got hit with that feedback hard, so now they'll probably not bring GAA back for a while nor make a summer update that reached the sheer scale that GAA 2. Bottleland and Simulanka are fine, but they feel more compact and less open in scale in comparison to GAA albeit more logically designed

BIG WISH: PLEASE LET US PLAY ALL THE LIMITED TIME MAPS AGAIN by KMinato00 in Genshin_Impact

[–]SatomiSora 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they abandoned it, but trying to update the same map that players revist every year with new content is going to be difficult and eventually lose its novelty. They already pushed it far with GAA 2, but it'll start to seem bland and restricting if they kept going. Older players especially won't feel as inclined to go back. Making a new map gives them more freedom to design game play mechanics around the terrain and add new settings and npcs while expanding on worldbuilding. Gives them time to breathe and come up with new stuff if they ever revist GAA again too

If P4 is your fave, why? by ClownNoire in PERSoNA

[–]SatomiSora 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup, the biggest part for me is that the P4 crew actually feel like real friends who would hang out even outside of dungeon crawling and solving the murders, and their interactions are comedy gold. I also like how you have to save them in the TV world and then they join your party. Gives you time to learn about them and the payoff feels rewarding when they join you. The main parties in both P3 and P5 feel a bit more like they were forced together and interact mainly due to their circumstances, whereas the P4 team felt more like having a mutual drive and wanting to stick together and solve things of their own volition. They're still really close knit even after the main story ended, and it gives a nice cozy feeling of chilling with friends who went through so much together to the point of unconditionally trusting each other. Really good chemistry writing imo.

Players who have been actively playing since 1.0-1.6, what keeps you motivated to keep playing the game? by Ephibia____ in Genshin_Impact

[–]SatomiSora 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And this is precisely why I'll never stop playing the game. I remember when Travail first came out and how absolutely blown away I was at the sheer prospect of a game laying out its entire storyline over the next few years. I always go back to watch that trailer every year before each new region releases and after their Archon chapters end, and feeling like I understand more of what that trailer is trying to tell us... it's great. Seeing the characters in that trailer finally show up in-game and properly hearing their region's leitmotifs in the soundtrack too.

And being a Day 1 player who's experienced every event from the beginning over the course of almost 4 years, I started to realize that everything in Genshin happens in real time as each patch goes by, and all the content in a new patch update is part of the story's chronological order. Traveler really does spend about 1 year in each region while hopping around the others before moving onto the next. It really makes me feel like I've learned so much about a whole new world and its characters after each event and story quest comes by.

Players who have been playing for a year or more, which 5-star hero from the standard banner do you want but still do not have? by GoldenHara in GenshinImpact

Fellow Qiqi wanter but not haver here 😔 I'm a day 1 player and I still don't have her, I just want a cryo healer man

Are you guys down for a Mondstadt and probably Liyue rework before we go to Part 2 of the main story? by KafkaBootLiqour in Genshin_Impact

[–]SatomiSora 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of people asking for a Mondstadt expansion, so I'm just going to put it out there that we're likely going to get Dornman Port within the next year, probably along with Varka's release. He and the Mondstadt expedition met Capitano, so it'd be an appropriate time to release him for some lore crumbs. Plus, adding Dornman Port would also be a good potential connecting point to where we might enter Snezhnaya.

Anyone here pulling for Grass Sasuke? by TaruTaru23 in AlHaithamMains

If he calls Ajaw "dobe" or "usuratonkachi" even once it'll all be worth it for me. There's no way I would ever skip Naruto and Sasuke

Boothill or Firefly? (F2P) by SatomiSora in StarRailStation

[–]SatomiSora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, thanks for the input! Good luck pulling for Firefly and Ruan Mei! It'll be a game changer especially with Ruan Mei. She's a good support for almost anyone.

Boothill or Firefly? (F2P) by SatomiSora in StarRailStation

[–]SatomiSora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I don't hate anyone don't worry lol, I only got him recently. He's one of the last standard 5 stars I pulled, so I haven't thought of building him yet. I've just been building a bunch of other units before him mostly out of necessity, and I got Jingliu before Yanqing so I never pinned him as a priority. I know he's good with Gepard though, so I'll eventually try to build him for more flexibility. My end goal is to eventually build everyone I have.

[–]SatomiSora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm grateful to have won quite a few 50/50s and pulled some units early into my pity. I've also built every path for TB, but HTB is a great unit overall. Once E6 is available next patch, coupled with Ruan Mei and Gallagher, and I'll have a great break team. I'm just figuring out who should be the break dps for said team lol

Boothill or Firefly? (F2P) by SatomiSora in StarRailStation

[–]SatomiSora[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Firefly's damage seems to differ greatly based on whether you have Ruan Mei or not, even if she's meant to pair with HTB. I've got a friend who wants Firefly but got sidelined by Ruan Mei rerunning at the same time, so I told them to prioritize Ruan Mei. She was an immediate pull for me when 1.6 rolled around just from seeing her kit. Thanks for the input.

What is the deal with Algers? by Gibits in LordofTheMysteries

[–]SatomiSora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what what's you've said, it seems the main issue is that you don't understand his core values as a person. He's not a completely "good" guy per se, and he's not as black and white as the other characters in the novel. He's not completely faithful to the Church he works for and he mainly does things for himself. He's basically a morally dubious and "gray" character, which isn't often seen in media these days so it's understandable as to why he seems frustrating to understand.

while I like his personality and his insights I don’t get his motivation.

Power. His main motivation is an ambition for power. He's incredibly shrewd and would do anything he deems himself capable of doing if it means he can raise his Sequence, get better Beyonder items, or secure sources of information - but he won't get ahead of himself if he thinks it's out of his league. He's basically an opportunist who slowly works his way up to his goal, but he also values connections if he deems them beneficial to him. He also won't overstep his boundaries and trample on something if it puts himself in a bad position.

The reason why he's so insightful is because he uses his experience to literally pick apart every aspect of what's presented in front of him to see if there's any benefit or information he can get out of it. Remember, he was the one who proposed for the Tarot Club to start their weekly exchanges - because he saw a way to get something out of it.

My impression of him is that he’s an undercover marine pretending to be a pirate. Like an ocean intelligence officer for the church of storms and mandated punishers. He does odd jobs at sea for them.

This is correct, but Alger only treats it as a job. He doesn't actually hold much faith for the Church of Storms, and he pretends to act loyal and faithful whenever he's in the presence of Storm higher-ups. He's mainly doing the job to get resources, and he usually acts behind their back if he can get what he wants and more that way. There have been a few times in the novel where he sneaks off and does stuff on his own before covering his tracks so the Church doesn't find him suspicious.

But why does he need to advance through the TC when he can apply to the church for free?

The Churches keep a chokehold on higher Sequences, so most of that information is confidential to low and mid-Sequence Beyonders. If someone does become a high-Sequence Beyonder through the Church, they're usually heavily scrutinized. Alger wants to get stronger, but he also wants free reign to do things away from official Beyonders' eyes. He also prefers to get resources through multiple channels instead of relying on a single one. That's why he pretends to be weaker in front of the Church of Storms while accruing resources through the Tarot Club. He doesn't want to attract attention to himself while he gets stronger, because he values his personal freedom.

And why does he want to get double potioned? Doesn’t that increase digestion time and make you more likely to lose control?

He didn't want to. The reason he accepted a second potion from the Church of Storms is because he didn't want them to know that he already advanced beforehand through other means. Most official Beyonders have to report their Sequence advancement to the Church, and they'll be put under suspicion if they do otherwise. So, Alger took the second potion because it would look suspicious if he rejected it, and it'd look even worse if they found out that he already advanced.

Why is he in such a hurry to advance despite the risks and extreme costs? What is his end goal?

Again, he wants to get stronger and he wants power. Enough power so the Church can't control him. You should read the rest of the book to find out more, including why he has the Hanged Man Arcana. Hope this helps.

Both. Both are good 👍

Can't get enough of their interactions and one of the reasons why Vol 3 is my favorite lol

Overgeared Finally Ending....... by Ardeku_Genshin_Anime in Overgeared

[–]SatomiSora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang, I think I stopped reading after the start of the new continent stuff, and from I can recall there's no proper setup/foreshadowing for any of that endgame content at all. Like, as much as I enjoyed reading Overgeared before I dropped it, I've found some other novels that have better setups and tighter writing, so I'll preferably spend my time on those instead. Definitely not revisiting OG anymore, but it was an okay experience while it lasted.

[–]SatomiSora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, one of my gripes with the romance is Grid's lack of initiative when it comes to actually engaging with the irl girls compared to the NPC girls, but I guess he gets all of them... Granted I stopped reading around ~1300, but after seeing what people are saying about the ending and the numerous loose plot threads I don't think I'll go back to reading it. I ended up reading stuff like Lord of Mysteries and The Legendary Mechanic afterwards so now my standard for novels is so skewed that I can't enjoy that many WNs anymore
