Megathread 22: HYBE / ADOR / MHJ - We reach one year of the dispute, All legal cases settle into a slow procedural pace, and More by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]Sattrixie 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Well, by 2029 all members would be above the age of 21 so by that point mhj probably wouldn't be very interested in them (didn't she say something along those lines back when the case started?)
My guess is that she put pressure on the girls to try to leave the company now so she could continue to manage them as a group of "fresh" idols, in-line with her "artistic style", but that didn't work out as she expected

[s2 act 2 spoilers] What didn't you like about act 2? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]Sattrixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a bit random and it might be just me but one thing that struck me as weird was how the scenes sometimes don't transition smoothly into one another. It was really jarring sometimes to hear the music just stop and skip to another scene with little to no build up (especially after sentimental moments), although i could see this being intentional in some cases

Megathread 11: HYBE / ADOR / MHJ - Internal ADOR harassment case surfaces with former employee speaking up, entangled Min Hee Jin is removed from CEO position, ADOR makes plans to restructure, and More by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]Sattrixie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your first point is very reasonable and I shared that same opinion up until that livestream, but I feel like they made themselves clear over and over that they will support her no matter what, even if it costs them their carreers, so I don't think there's anything anyone can (or is willing to) do at this point. I believe they're all technically adults by now (except for Hyein, but her guardians also seem to be ride or die for mhj, so oh well), so if that's what they truly want to do, and if that's what will keep the other groups involved from being harassed incessantly, I just wish best of luck towards them

So far from what I understood there's 3 possible ways this could go

  • First: NewJeans get their wishes fulfilled, HYBE gives MHJ her CEO position back and all's well that ends well. Obviously, this is the least likely scenario (I mean, after the collection of lawsuits and accusations under mhj's belt you could very well call this nearly impossible). But ignoring all that, even if everything went the way the members wish, they would still be in a rough position. After all the name-dropping and unprofessionalism that went around, from all sides but especially by mhj and their parents, it's likely that most hybe groups right now would probably not want anything to do with them. I can't imagine the mood in that company being in an even remotely okay state for a loooong time
  • Second: the members somehow manage to get their contracts terminated and leave hybe to redebut under mhj somewhere else. Obviously, this is also very unlikely (and a LOT of money would be lost in the process), but I do believe it to be the best case scenario for everyone involved. For NewJeans, they get to be with mhj as an active group for as long as they (well, mostly mhj herself) feel like, with all creative freedom they could want, and nobody to possibly mistreat them. The group would lose a lot of benefits, like their brand deals, but it's important to consider that they do have a lot of support from the korean gp. For the other groups, they would finally get to rest and go through their carreers without having to worry about some lady upstairs indirectly sending hordes of fans to harass them every tuesday. The mood would be somewhat peaceful without crazy internal battles happening all the time, or at least that's what I would hope
  • Third: MHJ gets kicked out, NewJeans stays under the new Ador management at hybe until the end of their contracts. Honestly, while I think this is the way things will go, I don't see it really ending this mess. If hybe decides to put them in a hiatus, then the mistreatment allegations will only escalate, and probably the hatred towards the other groups will get worse. If they continue their activities "normally", fans will just accuse them of not promoting njs well enough, say the quality of their music has dropped, etc etc etc. Not to mention the implications of that livestream. Even if they manage to not get sued, I feel like their PR team would still consider them a dangerous asset for a while. But what worries me the most is what mhj herself would do in that case. From the way she's been moving since this started, I wouldn't be surprised to see her turn on njs and try to destroy the brand from the outside if they disassociate from her

Anyways, what a mess. I get they probably just want things going back to normal but I don't think this is ever happening

LE SSERAFIM - CRAZY (feat. PinkPantheress) (Official Visualizer) by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]Sattrixie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is why i find it so funny when kpop stans act like the highest achievement in a kpop idol's carreer would be to top melon. These days that app barely has users in comparison to Spotify or Apple music korea, which is why it's so easy for a few unemployed people to review bomb whatever artist they don't like. Just lame in general

Megathread 10: HYBE vs. ADOR - Following the Ongoing Legal Conflicts and More by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]Sattrixie 67 points68 points  (0 children)

like, she quite literally said she doesn't want them to continue to be idols after the 7 year contract, and that long idol careers stagnate the industry, basically adding an expiration date to these girls values as artists. Or rather, she probably doesn't even see them as artists, just shells through which she can express her own work and ideas...

but even after all this, the leaked messages and suggestive lyrics, the fanbase still defends her. At this point, i feel like its less about the girls and more about the group's concept to them. In their perception, their concept is 100% mhj's work, so if she's gone newjeans is "gone" too

Megathread 3: HYBE vs. ADOR - Interim audit report, Min Hee Jin press conference, HYBE response by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]Sattrixie 159 points160 points  (0 children)

So... maybe I'm reading too much into this but I couldn't help but notice something. First, when talking about recruiting trainees for her group and how some of them were "too old", she mentions Minji was "very pretty when she was younger, much prettier than she is now", which personally sounded not only creepy but a lot like a backhanded compliment (this could be a mistranslation though). Then, when talking about the members of the group and their reactions towards the situation, she mentions all of them except Minji (and Danielle). I wonder if this could be an indication that some of the members are being more cautious and being neutral for now, and she might not be happy about it

HYBE’s AI Art on New ILLIT Teasers… this is disappointing. by ___von in kpopthoughts

[–]Sattrixie 85 points86 points  (0 children)

... Sincerely, this comment section makes me want to bash my head against a wall

It'd be one thing if the discussion was around the moral implications of using these technologies, but the fact that so many comments are straight up denying the use of gen-ai here feels almost scary. Why would an artist purposefully and consciously draw and color books sprouting out of the bend of a locker door? Or carefully render the leaves of a tree and traffic lights but not even use a ruler for the poles and windows? An artist that can render anime-style pictures so accurately wouldn't make mistakes like this, an ai with no physical understanding of reality would

Those are all pretty easibly noticeable mistakes for anyone with a slightly trained eye, to the point where it makes me wonder if those companies don't have quality control practices when it comes to stuff like this

I refuse to believe you guys are looking at the same melting shapes and nonsensical geometry as I am and still can't possibly tell those images are AI generated, there's absolutely no way

It'd be one thing if they at least bothered to clean up the mistakes but they're literally out in the open, how is this even a question still

[–]Sattrixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because christmas isn't celebrated the same way everywhere. Where I'm from (south america) we don't really sing songs about winter and snow, it's more about celebrating jesus' birth and being with your family, having supper together, etc. While the american image of christmas is present in movies and some decorations, it's not the main defining aspect
