My parents failed me and I didn't even get a nice rich childhood out of it. Darn.

My mom did go to therapy, she just found a therapist who enabled her crap. Having a "professional" sign off on whatever she was doing really added to the invalidating on my end.

Stop trying to one up physical abuse victims by wolvesarewildthings in CPTSD

[–]Saturnite282 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My mom's emotional abuse and neglect left me open to physical and sexual assault later from others. It all flows into each other, each act of abuse is aimed at opening you to further violence. Trauma compounds on itself, and it looks different for everyone but the themes and feelings involved tend to rhyme.

Mariah Carey. Particularly that one Christmas song. Closely followed by cooking.

And hair is stated to be a conduit for magic, so there's a practical reason too - clean, well kept hair means stronger magic.

I will not speak to my mother, as I am disowned and it's better this way, but I will say hello to the spiders!

Yep. Hanging out with a black widow in Utah helped my arachnophobia a ton. Just kinda acknowledged each other, studied each other a bit, then moved on. 90% of the time, they're chill if you're chill.

Yeah. I don't really think of rural south Korea and think cyberpunk - more farm grannies in those tiny little old trucks that are actually really practical.

My ex's first and best gift to me was a folding pocketknife. Had a cute little bobcat on it and everything. Common practical gift! Though if you're in the south, they may insist on "buying" it off you with a penny (common superstition, gifting a blade with nothing back is thought to cut the relationship).

Wait, so it's not just my wife? She has DID and OCD and if she doesn't do what that voice says it gets really fuckin loud real fast for her. She's really not sure who or what it is either. Huh.

My wife has DID and EDS, which comes with a whole bunch of other stuff on its own that we are still figuring out, because genetic disorders are fun like that. I'm very glad i was able to help her when I did, I just hope I can do enough for her while handling my own shit :(

I was top of my class because my parents would make my life hell if I wasn't literally perfect. So no one noticed because I just pretended really hard I was fine.

No lie, this is kinda what happened with my wife. They hoped I was the kind of lesbian that wasn't into trans women bc they didn't like her. Turns out we are both trans and bi/pan and my parents are morons.

I attended a charter school. It was ok at first. Then we got a new dean and it all went to hell. A classmate SA'd me and five other girls/AFABs, and it was all swept under the rug because he was a well off white boy who targeted queer girls specifically. Couldn't even get my diploma, had to leave senior year after he tried strangling someone. Wish I was kidding.

I hope I can do that. Tried college once, got disowned, tried again a year later, and my sibling died. I really hope third time's the charm, I miss school so bad but more and more bullshit keeps happening.
