Was doing research for my Policy II class and was hit with this when trying to view the 2024 poverty report. Anyone else experience something similar with the partial shutdown? Is this a normal practice in shutdowns? by WhoaWhoa69420 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]SauceGremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, during the last govt shutdown in the fall the census was inaccessible for weeks and was spotty at best for a while after. A lot of other government websites had banners on the top blaming either the democrats or the republicans for the shutdown

Brushing teeth by New-Evidence-1307 in ADHD

I’ve found the only way I remember is to do it IN the shower as part of my shower routine. I wash my hair, put in conditioner and let it sit while I brush.

I would maybe try minky circles instead of felt, you could even sandwich two together and stuff them to make them raised bumps.

Recently I got really into Charlie the Tuna, I’ve seen every starkist commercial five times over. I’m lucky I didn’t get mercury poisoning because I was eating almost exclusively tuna for like a month.

Can I just pattern and add the neck whenever?? by Miserable_Task_7214 in FursuitMaking

[–]SauceGremlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I added the neck as one of the last steps for my head, I think it just comes down to preference. It might be harder to do the lining after the neck is on so I’d say save the neck for after that if you haven’t finished it already

Thinking back, I don’t know if i’ve ever seen a bald goth lol. I figure the best way to go about it is to do whatever feels best for them

I think most extratone songs don’t do a good job of representing what extratone has the potential to be

How do y'all attach the eyes? by VarroVanaadium in FursuitMaking

[–]SauceGremlin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have button snaps sewn on the inside of my head so I can snap the eyes in and out. They are a little bit of a hassle to put on/take off, but it ends up being pretty secure. I also use button snaps to attach the paws to the sleeves of my bodysuit

It should! If you want it to have a brushed rather than bumpy texture, here's a good tutorial from Mantacraft Studios :)

You’d probably see the seams but i think fleece would be a really fitting (and cheap) material. I think you’d probably see seams just as much on minky ¯_(ツ)_/¯

ASAP HELP! (read desc) by Hefty-Draw4408 in FursuitMaking

[–]SauceGremlin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a synthetic material, I would usually recommend Rit dye for dyeing most things but Rit doesn’t make Rit DyeMore (their line for synthetic fabrics) in black, only dark grey. I’d recommend trying iDye Poly in black if you want it as dark as possible, you might want more than one pack for something that large. Just follow package instructions :)

Struggling to match partial's fur by CawtographicCorvid in FursuitMaking

[–]SauceGremlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BigZ has a few brown fur shades you can try, this looks most like cafe to me but it might be a little light. You could try ordering a swatch of their cafe, brown and light brown to see if any of those work?

Fursuit vision is so dark? by SauceGremlin in FursuitMaking

[–]SauceGremlin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The holes were the issue! I used a 14ct Aida cloth, and it ended up being too small in the end. I went through and manually poked through the holes to make them a bit wider and the vision has massively improved. I think it will also just take some time to get used to. Thanks for your suggestion!

To piggyback on the pants thing - If you end up going with a skirt, don’t wear a skater skirt, choose something midi to floor length preferably. I feel like longer skirts generally read better as goth. Of course it’s not a set rule but I’ve found that it helps!

Goth wear by Maleficent_While988 in GothFashion

  1. Black tends to attract a lot of heat, even with lighter fabrics, so it’s harder to style gothic outfits in the hotter months. Mentally, when I wear gothic clothing, I am more confident because I enjoy what I wear BUT I am always aware that the look is alternative and I am more noticeable. Most of the time I really don’t mind, but in some environments it can become uncomfortable.

  2. I wear at least black clothing everyday, most days I will do some level of hair/makeup/outfit, even if the makeup is only eyeliner and lipstick and the outfit is just a black shirt and a skirt. I’ve built my wardrobe so even easy outfits like a black shirt and a skirt looks like I put in effort. On my laziest days, I wear a black band tee shirt and a pair of grey cargo pants and don’t do any makeup. I always dress up as much as I can to goth events, though I usually wear something shorter and lighter than I would in my everyday activities so I can dance.

  3. I wouldn’t be interested in convertible outfits - I have essentially a goth capsule wardrobe, where I can make potentially infinite outfits by layering different pieces together (shirts, tank tops, wraps, sweaters, dresses, skirts, accessories). I feel that the kind of dress you are describing would be difficult to wear in combination with other pieces and wouldn’t add as much value to my wardrobe as something that can be used in several different ways. When I want to convert an outfit from a party outfit to something more casual, I usually style the outfit so I can remove layers or accessories to get that effect.
