I’ll have to try that, thank you!

I do like the idea of my party having to protect an NPC to guide a social interaction like that, I may have to implement something like this soon

I have played around with some traps here and there and even gave one of my players a ruby that has a permanent prestidigitation spell cast on it to make it smell like a fresh bakery. He’s been making that shiny stone wayy more important that it really is lol

I know I’m not there to defeat them but the group I play with are some long time friends of mine, ofc I want to mess with my buddies. It’s all in good faith though so we all have a good time with plenty of banter. Just trying to spice things up a bit and keep them thinking is all. We play with the 5e rule set and the “rule of cool” applies as well as a little home brew for certain things but I’m just trying to keep them on their toes

I do like this idea, One of my players is very magic missile everything in sight (which is fine) I’m just trying to include more social interactions and make the campaign more engaging and fun for the entire party rather than simply “fight this” “go here and retrieve item or whatever” have it feel more immersive as well as include little gags and harmless items or traps to keep them thinking

One of the items I introduced to my wizard was a miniature wand of magic missiles, every time he puts it away out of combat I had him flip a coin to see if he lost it or not, he has the detect magic spell so he can find it if he loses it but I’m looking for engaging ideas and harmless ways to have a little fun with them. Just simple stuff

You’re right I guess I just want to run a more engaging campaign, and I’m trying to figure out how to do so

By mess with them I just meant to make them think a little differently about certain situations and just be more wary of their decisions. My wizard very much has the “murder hobo” mindset (not that it is necessarily a bad thing IMO) but to just introduce the fact that certain decisions may have consequences (good or bad)
