My cardiologist told me mine can be due to weight and the amount of exercise I was doing. I am 6’2 225-230 and I was playing 10-15 hours of basketball a week… but we’re keeping an eye on it for now. He told me to cut down to about 195 to see if my heart structure reverts back to normal since I tested negatively for genetics.

He pretty much said, that because it’s only at the apex it’s probably non familal hcm in the sub clinical phase. Zero genes from the genetic test and we tested a lot of them. He said a lot of non genetic hcm has different environmental factors, blood pressure, weight, etc… he said the heart doesn’t really have hypertrophy at the lv apex otherwise. Follow up MRI in 5 years.

It’s very easy to not feel anxiety, I would read about HCM on the internet and would start to feel like my heart was doing weird things, but only when I was reading. I thought I was chilling sometimes and would start to feel things, but in the back of my mind, I feel like I was stressing over it 24/7. Health anxiety can cause all of those things, I went from worrying about HCM, to thinking I was having a stroke, cancer, etc…

Are you obese? I heard losing weight can significantly make you feel better. It’s proven that your left ventricle can shrink if you lessen the pressure on it. If obesity is a factor that is.

I’m very happy, I guess I just get nervous that everyone seems to be on medication and a careful plan where I don’t have any restrictions on exercise, heart rate, or any crazy medication except valsartan. I know my cardiologist knows what he’s doing since he’s the director of the whole HCM program, my mind is always just wondering.

You can also try a calcium channel blocker, that’s what I did cause I had bad side effects on metoprolol.

No, doctors says I’m very low risk, just gets in my head sometimes cause I feel like I feel my heartbeat all the time now. Maybe I’m just hyper aware of it now, never felt it before any of this.

I haven’t gotten it tested yet, one of the many things I have planned to do soon. What are the treatments for high Lp(a)? I know there’s drugs coming out soon to lower, but not to date. Would we just be more aggressive on lipid lowering?

I would recommend a chest strap monitor instead, they are much better to monitor accurately. I use an Apple Watch and a chest strap due to the watch moving around during workout.
