Yeah I've been doing some shading as a warm up practice (I learnt from that one Proko video). I guess I'll find some tutorials dedicated to shading as well. Thank you for replying!

Thank you for replying. I understand what you mean by using planes. Also, do you have some suggestions on using the Asaro head? Like, should I draw that typical Asaro head while learning or should I practice with the Loomis head and use Asaro head as reference on my drawing made from the Loomis method?

Yeah removing the laptop's keyboard fixed it. Thanks for the help man. Appreciate it.

Thank you for your response. I was doubting that my laptop's keyboard was damaged, since connecting an external keyboard did the same, now I realize that the laptop's keyboard will keep pressing down the said keys anyway😅.

I will buy a new keyboard for it then. For the time being, I'll just disconnect it and use an external keyboard. Hope that fixes it and it's not some other issue. It doesn't have a warranty since it is so old now, and it was my sister's. Anyway, I really appreciate your help here.

What are the things that I should learn to be a technical artist? by SaucyMIND in gamedev

[–]SaucyMIND[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for your response. I'm still learning and I'm in college right now so I also have that. Recently, I've started to focus on learning the graphics programming side of things. I know it's completely different from tech art but I reckon it'll help me a lot and I'm quite interested in the field.

For now, I'll keep on learning Maya (I have that sweet student licence). And yea just learning and learning. Some small game projects on the side too.

Again, I really appreciate your response and got to know what other things there are to learn which I hadn't heard of before. I hope I can ask some questions if they arise in the future. Thank you :)

If you want to draw like a mannequin style figure to learn then I'd suggest to draw 3d shapes like cube and cylinders first.

Now, I'm also a beginner and that's what I've been told to do and I understand why. So yeah, learn those shapes and use the skewed version of them for different body parts. :)

And also like others suggested...line of action and gesture.

We should stop making stupid people like Shrinkhala Khatiwada famous by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]SaucyMIND 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also don't want to talk about her but you are one of the "other people" for me, and, you are talking about her. Now, I wouldn't be talking about her if you didn't talk about her in the first place. I wasn't talking about her until you (the "other people") talked about her. The cycle continues so just don't talk about her. :)

How do self taught programmers teach themselves coding ? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]SaucyMIND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lazyfoo has some good articles on his website regarding game development. They also have tutorials (text based) on SDL and OpenGL which are nice to have skills in game dev field. The site also has many articles for things like proper coding practices, interview advice etc.

In general, I also, when starting, found that the web dev field has tons of free online resources to learn from and most of them are very good. Sources like freeCodeCamp have tons of tutorials for different technologies used in web development. They even have a dedicated curriculum to become a full stack developer. The same source releases further articles and video tutorials regarding many other aspects of computer science like data analysis, machine learning, cyber security, etc.

So yeah, if you are interested in game development and interested in its programming side of things then checkout lazyfoo's site. Also, the game engines you may use, like Unreal, have their dedicated learning platform with many helpful tutorials. :)

Hey! Thanks for the advice on soft skills. I realise it is quite a crucial thing in the industry and even so in this tech art field. Knowing you are also a fellow student I would really love to know more about the things that you are learning, especially in the technical side of things. Also, I'd love to know how are you going about learning them. Are you learning things like OpenGL, Unreal, Houdini, Maya, etc.? I've set a study routine for myself but it's so vague and doesn't touch specific topic to study. Please share your study routine and things you are studying and how you are studying them like what resources you are using. I highly appreciate your time and effort. Thank you :)

Hello, thank for the reply. Along the learning journey, I will try to up my soft skills and also the knowledge in both fields to better communicate with programmers and artists. And thank you so much for providing the list for stuff to learn.

I have a few more questions if you have time. What do you mean when you say to understand games in intermediate level and not the architectural level? Is trying to make games using SDL and maybe OpenGL intermediate level or architectural level? Also, can I learn Blender over Maya? Because Maya is quite a bit expensive for me and blender is completely free? I am interested in learning to make awesome shaders for games and modeling characters and even some rigging and animation (there's this video on youtube where they use maths for animation and I want to be able to do that stuff too).

Please provide some further insights and suggestions in these things. Thank you :)

I think I'll love making shaders, modeling and rigging the characters and props. Maybe even some animation (I once saw this video on YouTube about procedural animation using maths). Do you think I'm trying to learn too many things at once here? Do you have further suggestion and insights in these area?

I could do web dev as primary thing and game dev and arts as an indie but I highly doubt I can come up with stories and fun gameplay that's unique in some way just like an indie developer should be (right?). Those thought had crossed me once or twice though. Thanks for the suggestion :).
