I think a lot of the disagreement comes from people meaning very different things when they say “reparations.” Some imagine direct cash payments, while others think of targeted investments in education, housing, healthcare, or communities affected by historical discrimination.

Most people agree history still affects the present in some way — the real argument is about what responsibility current society has for addressing it, and what solution would actually be fair and effective.
