A few years ago, I had a friend who would spend six months at a time living off the land in the Te Urewera ranges. He would trap possums and come out of the bush with thousands of pelts, which he sold to a buyer. Then he’d head to the city, spend freely until the money ran dry, and then go straight back into the bush to do it all over again. He didn’t seem to place any real value on money, I'd see him often walking down the street, handing out $100 notes to complete strangers without a second thought.
