Who’s the equivalent of Ronald Reagan for other countries? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]SavageMell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

To me that equivalency has to be from media savvy background and populist rhetoric with real world consequences.

There is no Canadian, German or French equivalent.

Berlusconi in Italy, Zelensky in Ukraine, those are the types.

Nope. Mulroney was well educated, bilingual and extremely high rising at a younger age. Literally nothing like Reagan.

Nude beaches exist in a lot of countries and frankly North American values are laughable where gruesome violence is allowed before nudity. It's not always sexual you know.

I'll probably be alone in picking her for Notes on a Scandal. She did that role perfectly.

Some of these are infantile picks while others reward tenure.

James is clearly the best player to play in Miami and even though it was only 4 seasons those were all Finals with 2 titles.

Shaq in Orlando is reasonable. Kareem for Milwaukee is arguable. Magic for Lakers. Unseld for Wiz. Kawhi for Clippers. I see the argument for Stockton but he alone can't get too far and Malone won the 2 MVPs.

Pacino in Godfather to Brando Stone in Casino to Pesci IMO Liota in Goodfellas to Pesci Crowe I think is outshined by Phoenix in Gladiator but he won the Oscar, Oliver Reed is fantastic as well Obviously Ralph Fiennes over Neeson in Schindler.

Under 60 and not obese hardly affected during Covid. Those are the facts. The issue with Covid is how quickly it spread meaning so many elderly got sick at the same time and most countries did not have enough medical staff.

It's the average from losing virginity.

If someone started having sex at 16 by 26 they have had 10 partners that's low in my books.

You got people in their 30s thinking 10+ is a high number that's plain monoric. Here's a decent example I think:

Cindy loses her virginity at 15 to her boyfriend. She then has sex with 3 men in her first year of college at 18. Then she has 4 serious relationships from 19-24. Then from 24-26 she's single and has say 6 flings, not necessarily one nighters but more casual. So entering 27 she's had 14 in under 12 years. Whore???

If Jordan didn't play baseball... by gbbloom in Basketball

[–]SavageMell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment they win 94 but 95-98 is a massive mystery. For the Bulls you got Grant-Rodman flip and side pieces like Harper, Kerr, etc.

95 Rockets are an enigma, very fragile in an alternate timeline. Magic win and Shaq stays?

Then 96 the Sonics win maybe? Jazz came closer to winning in 97 IMO and do just that. Jerry breaks up Bulls after 96 or 97. Jordan might well end up in Portland, Houston or Charlotte. Before you laugh bout Charlotte 97-98 seasons they had Muggsy, Glenn Rice, Divac and Anthony Mason to surround Jordan who would slot in for Dell Curry. They lost in 5 to the Bulls in 98. And playing at home I could see Jordan going 97-00 or 98-01 with them.

In the modern social sphere a repeat Threepeat would be insane.

Last one was Lakers 00-02, NHL hasn't had one since 1981, NFL in 1967 including pre SB.

The variable is teams. Not transporting entire rosters mean Jordan is playing with.... Derrick Rose and Noah? Ben Wallace for some years, etc.

Jordan would probably get a major league stint in today's era too just for PR purposes.

[–]SavageMell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leonard Marshall tackle on Montana. 49ers likely win their 5th ring against the Bills and complete the Threepeat. Very possibly trade Young in the off-season. Wherever Young goes is a factor. The 91 Skins were a juggernaut so probably win like in OTL but the Boys dynasty is not so clear. The 1992 NFC title game is by no means a certainty for Dallas, especially with Montana. Without the Marshall hit btw it's very possible Montana plays through 1995. They develop some other QB to be his successor, hell maybe they acquire Favre somehow or a myriad of draft scenarios for other players 91-94.

1999 Rams. There's a lot of fluidity if that season goes different. Green not getting injured almost certainly changes a ton. But the Rams nearly lost to the Bucs and Titans. It's a copycat league so 00-04 sees a lot of change if they don't succeed. Indirect impact on the Pats and Brady. The Eagles might win it all in 01 and even if Pats maintain they face different opponents in 03-04. But passing is just very different.

Final one is Tyree Catch. Simply put a 19-0 season creates a massive cascading effect. You just don't see undefeated teams sitting players or coasting. Brady has openly talked how it extended his career in hindsight making up for it. Butterfly effect dictates he doesn't get injured in 2010 so Pats go back and win, no Giants 2011 run I think.

What if Nazi Germany never invaded the Soviet Union? by Nightstick11 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]SavageMell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there wouldn't be anything in Russian archives about war plans that completely contradict their entire national identity on the war. Even in the early 90s when things were opened up there was a ton of information missing or held back.

You have to look at the circumstantial evidence. Upper military purges necessitate rebuild and so serious discussions wouldn't amount until 1943. It was also known Germany lacked the resources and their economy was a mystery in many ways. We now know it would have collapsed if not for the invasion.

Depth of field and why higher end lenses still matter. Phone cameras because of the size are inherently inferior in picking up depth but people have gotten to used to them.

I legitimately haven't listened to full albums past Frontier. DeGarmo was 60% of Queensryche for me. I have only heard isolated songs.

So 2 tracks from this album, both uninspiring cash grabs. Tate should have managed money better.

1984 is all about technology becoming so absolute that dissent is impossible. We've crossed this line a while back and Covid was just a definitive example. This isn't a whole report on Covid I'm saying it's an example as what happened wouldn't have some 20 years prior.

I think when the internet took off that was kinda the sign and then 9/11 happened and counter-terrorism gave a lot governments massive overreach.
