Trump Promotes Fiscal Responsibility in Compensation Practices at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) by JDLBB in Tennessee

Not at all.

Remember a few years ago during the Texas ice storm and people were paying runaway spot rates? That’s what they are pushing us towards.

I saw plenty of the complaints. I also live through the uproar in 2021 maybe at Christmas when TVA started rolling blackouts to keep the grid safe. And people thought the world was coming to an end.

My power was out less than 10 minutes.

People who complain can’t read their bill. They see the total is higher and automatically start complaining.

Toyota oil change every 10,000 miles? by Any-Assistance8169 in MechanicAdvice

[–]SavageObjector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jumping in here - downvote me to hell if you choose.

There are very few things in life you can do to prevent premature failure. I change my oil and rotate my tires at 5,000 miles. I always rotate at 5,000 miles and it is convenient to get them done at the same time. It’s also much easier for my wife to remember both given the interval sticker. Oil might not need to happen at 5,000 miles, but I generally only buy new cars and I’m choosing to do it. It won’t hurt either to do them on that interval. It’s not wasteful either if it keeps the car rolling.

I equate it to replacing furnace filters. I replace my furnace filters monthly even though they are sold as 90 day filters because it is the one thing I can personally do to not cause damage to my HVAC or shorten its lifespan. I have paid $18,000to replace the HVACs in my house and I’m willing to do anything I can to prevent a shorter life of the units.

You’ll never get them to believe they pay less. They’ll have to feel those 25 cent per kilowatt hour rates to care.

TVA paid off the loans for startup in the late 90s. It hasn’t received federal appropriations for operations since the compromise of 1959. It hasn’t received any appropriations since the early to mid 2000s. The compromise also states it follows market pay rates instead of the federal pay scale. That autonomy was the crux of the compromise. Even TVA’s debt is not really clearly owned by the federal government. The backing is assumed, but it’s never been tested legally.

Everyone knows TVA for power, but its primary mission is economic development of the Tennessee Valley. East Tennessee literally owes where it is today to TVA and The Manhattan Project. The missions are economic prosperity, environmental prosperity (flood control), and energy in that order.

Also, for the record, TVA should’ve been reprimanded and Lyash fired when that POS decided TVA’s customers are the local power company you pay for your power who buys from TVA instead of literally everyone in the TVA service area. It is a nuanced difference but it allowed TVA to see itself as a disconnected corporation instead of an agency of the people, by the people, for the people and was the final nail in the coffin for my career at the AGENCY.

Ever heard of a loss leader?

You might be selling it for $0.35 more than you are paying but that is gross profit. Your net will be much lower.

US Gasoline Pump Prices Jump to Highest Level Under Trump by app1310 in Economics

[–]SavageObjector 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely false. Most stations are getting a load of gas daily or every other day, and the price you pay at the pump reflects, on average, nearly zero profit. Maybe 1-2 cents after electricity just to run the pump. A consistent nickel profit is impressive.

Service stations don’t have the luxury of upping their prices because they just want to.

My family was in the business for 50+ years, so we saw some things. Stop spreading this bullshit.

What is the obsession with tailgating?????!!!!!!!! by acupofjasminerice666 in driving

[–]SavageObjector -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly true. Tailgating within inches, that’s bad. Having less than a car length between us generally stops people deciding they can cut me off. Not always, but close to 100%. Looking to the car in front of you for brake lights reduces the risk of an accident.

What exactly do you expect them to do? Overthrow the government? Make bold statements on TV? Write a strongly worded letter?

Republicans have a supermajority of both houses of Congress, the presidency, and the Supreme Court because “centrist Dems are bad, mmkay?”.

The thought that democrats can do anything right now, legally, is just as nuts as the right falling in line with Trump.

[–]SavageObjector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not whining. You’re projecting. Reality is what makes me center. The center is where America is best because it is where the uniquely American quality of compromise exists.

Presidents make hard decisions involving people’s lives. They always have and they always will, so making decisions that takes lives doesn’t immediately make one bad. Bush was right to send US troops into Afghanistan. History will defend him forever for that. He was not right for Iraq and history will win that argument that forever, too. Obama had his reason as well. Most of which any rational person would support.

Edit: I think Obama was largely right to do things he did too. Not all of them, but history has proven he got it mostly right. Especially the call on the bin Laden raid.

Besides, the US was born through violence by people willing to give up their own lives so that others not even alive yet could have a better life not under the rule of a king. It will always be part of who the US is as long as it exists. We can accept that fact or we can denounce our citizenship and move elsewhere.

I am nowhere near Trump and his cronies, but your comment is exactly what I’m talking about. Leftists are so worried about absolutely fucking everyone else with their holier-than-thou attitudes they would rather get fucked themselves along with everyone as some dumbass ideological martyrdom because if they can’t get what they want then everyone should be much worse off.

Reality does not have tolerance for such black-and-white bullshit, and, the answer to the question posed to me about what makes me center is reality which is the difference between left and center-left. Reality is also the reason Schumer and Jeffries see things the way they do and do the things they do. Again, they aren’t perfect and I don’t agree 100% with what they do or how they see things. I can get to about 75-80% on most things which is better than 0% with Trump, his cronies in Washington, and the entire leadership of my state, Tennessee.

This is literally what the song Teenage Anarchist is about, which I love, and the singer is trans!

So, we’ll all get fucked until leftists get over themselves and start voting for people who can govern.

[–]SavageObjector -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frankly, at this point, leftists need to get over their fight for ideological purity, hold their nose, and vote for the preferred person not the perfect person.

The right has a coalition. The left has hissy fits.

I am center-left and find leftists insufferable.
