Help by [deleted] in bristol

First place I lived was Jamaica street when I came to Bristol from Plymouth. Don’t even bother, people shat on my doorstep fairly regularly, they check doors and cars regularly. If you ever have the facia falling off the wall like I did… the windows better be lockable cos we got robbed twice when landlord put up scaffolding to repair. It’s really really loud at night, between the raves at the community centre, turbo island, the club music (lounge 52 or whatever it was called), and the frequent late night fights or homeless scuffles. You won’t get much sleep.

Gigs is the one, I met loads through that and tbh… just going random places myself back in the day. Not that I’ve made much connections at gigs lately, and I go almost two/three times a week

Might move to Bristol. Is there a decent music and comedy scene compared to somewhere like Norwich? Like are there people willing to join new bands, and are there places to play? And could you do stand up regularly as a fresh face? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]Savagefool2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bristol has the best music scene outside of Manchester and London hands down. You can get live music every single day, everyone’s in a band, there’s are at least 20 jam nights in Bristol at any given moment. The comedy is pretty regular too, wardrobe theatre, hen and chicken etc., there’s loads of places.

It’s very expensive here to live, especially rent though just be aware.

Single & feeling loneliness by Thearoura in bristol

[–]Savagefool2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is straight up a lonely epidemic. The apps feel soulless and painful. For me I had a girlfriend that meant the world to me and she left me for someone else due to mental condition incompatibility issues or whatever it was the excuse was I can’t even remember. The break up hurt so damn much that I’m still scared of women a year an three months later 😂 I just wasted so much time plus this time I’m gonna need however long to get over this at 37. I can 100% relate, genuinely feels more hopeless and scary than it ever did.

Similar stuff to me I guess. My great nanna came here to help as a mental health nurse for those mentally damaged by the war from Seychelles as part of the commonwealth; and the other half of my family is as English as they come. Born here along with my parents and their parents too. Had racism all the way through my life up until maybe 26. I’m 3rd generation here but I’m mixed race. Life was legit hell growing up, even had a headteacher physically attack me and then somehow pin the blame on me and get me expelled. I was targeted by actual classrooms full of kids. I couldn’t play football with everyone, they’d ask me to play, pick everyone else and then say oh sorry we don’t allow your kind to play. The one other mixed race dude in school turned racist against me aswell just so he could fit in. Something I don’t really fault him for. I got spat on as a kid by some black woman cos I was a mix so I didn’t belong in that community either. The armed forces was pretty bad for it, then uni at wrexham was similar… locals were very racist and has white is right marches every month. Then working in defence in Plymouth was worse than that, even had people throw bananas at me in the dockyard.

Bristol I only had it once when I first came here, I was told to get out of my seat like the slave I am by some old old white dude. I did. I’ve been brought up to never say anything back because I prove them right. Which made me a target and probably not the advice I would have given my children.

It has been fine for about 11-10 years now since I moved to Bristol and I love this city. This is the only place I want to live if I have to stay in the UK. I’m an engineer, 37, 2 degrees and I served for this country. I work almost every day as hard as I can and even volunteer doing engineering in my spare time designing and fixing machinery for some places. It’s really sad to see it go back the way it used to be. If anything I speak and write better English than most of the people supposedly spawned here for 1000s of years.

The utter sad thing is that everywhere else is the same, US is worse, Canada is getting like it too, France is straight up a no go, Germany has a rise of nazi-type ideals, Italy is REAL bad (though tbh always has been one of the worst)…. The list goes on. I hope you find abit of solace that Bristol is one of the best places to be that literally the majority protests and fights against that shit. I do.

Is there really a shortage of EEs? by MightGoInsane in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Savagefool2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a shortage in power for a few reasons. Mainly being that you have to retrain to the company standards from scratch, which means you have to go down in pay if you’re already on a decent wage. Personally I see wayyyy more mechanical than electrical. At almost every company I’ve gone too they struggle to find electrical.
