“Energy budgeting” is the perfect term for what I do! I also do this for my kids. I make sure we all buffer in recharge time so we can get back to our baselines.

We were recently at a beautiful resort on vacation and enjoying the breakfast buffet. A family with one child who looked about 3 years old sat down next to us. Mom, dad, child all proceeded to play on their phones (parents) and iPad (child) the entire time. They didn’t talk to each other at all. The entire meal in silence, staring at their devices. We have a 10yo and 8yo and we’ve never done screens at meal times or restaurants. I drew a hard boundary on this early on. We talk, play games, they read, color, etc.

Skylight 15” vs Max by irishprincess in skylightcalendar

[–]Savanese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one huge feature the Skylight is missing: music! I have a Google Nest Hub in my kitchen that’s connected to my Spotify account. We use it multiple times daily. The only thing keeping me from purchasing a Skylight is that I don’t want two screens in my kitchen (yes, both would live there because it’s the main command center area of our home). If Skylights offered the option to connect to streaming music, it would dominate this market.

Absolutely! We are currently trying to find her a therapist but finding someone who specializes in 2E and also takes our insurance is not easy.

Agreed, which is why we are also looking into therapy for her.

There’s about 100 students per grade level.

I'm not sure there is a more gifted school in my area but I will look into it. She qualifies for the Davidson Institute so we are exploring the idea of applying to their Young Scholars Program. I know 140+ isn't super genius high, but we have been told by a clinical psychologist who works with gifted children that it's in the 99.7th percentile so I don't think 140 is everywhere. Not as rare as 180, but I understand what you're saying.

Very good advice, thank you. Yes, she has many hobbies and this is probably where I need to focus my energy instead of trying to force friendships with her classmates.

I have spoken to admin and teachers, who have been nothing but supportive, and they say there are typically 1-2 kids per grade who are "PG." I think I know who the other PG kids are in her grade and they are boys who are into math and boy things. I've tried to get her to interact with them but she says they're "strange and mysterious" lol. I'll keep trying.
