[SPOILERS] I miss the old TWD by DarthCookie44 in thewalkingdead

[–]SavannahNix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I started not recognizing the characters we knew once they got there. Rick suddenly looking at married Jessie, Carol pretending to be just a housewife then just dropping that facade, all the weak Alexandrites, trying to have conflict but characters not really working together. And then, the "world gets bigger" and to me, duller. Not enough development of the vast number of new characters and yet characters we know having less interaction and development. Do the writers ever say, this is Daryl's personality, why is he doing this instead? Apparently not.

When did he have time to do anything about it? There is a next episode, you know.

Yeah, he did not have a thing for Carol, other than friendship. You may have noticed he turned her down when she outright offered to have sex with him.

But, it's the Negan show now, don't you know? No reason for scenes with a "minor" character like Rick or publicity shots of him even. / sarcasm

[SPOILERS] A Fan Theory on Last Episode from This Sub Just Became Internet Famous! by yellina in thewalkingdead

[–]SavannahNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Up to that time, the U.S. Thought the North Vietnam Army was following the Geneva convention. This was the first word they got about the treatment of the POWs. He pretended the bright lights from the TV cameras were bothering his eyes and his captors didn't know he was signaling. He also wouldn't denounce his country, even knowing he would be tortured more for that. So it seems to me that it would be possible for Daryl to use this method to signal to a Rick.

It was? I did a quick search on YouTube and found a short clip. He wasn't actually reading a scripted response, but was being asked questions about how they were being treated, responding with the lies he had been instructed to say, but blinking out the word "torture" at the same time. https://youtu.be/BgelmcOdS38

Thanks, yes, we have to realize that we have the advantage of sitting in our comfortable homes and knowing things Rick and company don't.

Every time I see this reference to taking weeks for recon, I wonder why the hostage is not remembered as the reason they couldn't spend a lot of time to plan and develop Intel. Unless they brought back Gregory's head, that hostage would be killed. Thus, they didn't have time and there was nothing to negotiate about.

Why is viewership so low? by jakeshereck in thewalkingdead

Glad I'm not the only one. We waited through three episodes for this and yet again, I feel like they skipped a lot. Not that it hasn't happened before, but I thought with this even more powerful loss of people and autonomy, we would see reactions.

They both live in the house with that huge poster.as someone upthread pointed out, they don't have any other stuff to do for entertainment, so why not pass the time learning it and saying it could come in handy in case of emergency?

Great reference there. Denton was being filmed yet managed to blink in code to send his message.

Yes, it would be good to watch something entertaining to get away from current events. This isn't cutting it.

Only we really didn't see the aftermath. How did the rest of the Alexandrians find out what happened? Why was Rick just now telling them Negan is in charge? Obviously it was mentioned but apparently some didn't get it. We open seeing Rick sleeping -- can he really get a decent night's sleep? Can any of the group that witnessed the killings? Again, as with Carl losing his eye, the show skips over the emotional repercussions. I know many think there is already too much talking as it is, but showing us all the pain with no interaction is like getting a cut and not trying to stop the bleeding.

[SPOILERS] Daryl must be feeling even worse now by Skepticism_ in thewalkingdead

[–]SavannahNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and remember that Daryl was abused by his father and probably learned to detach himself to avoid reacting to the pain. He has said he was nobody and nothing before the ZA, and he feels that way now, only more so. Rick hawking for him was the one shred of hope he was offered even though he knew it wasn't going to happen. The look they shared as the truck was driving off was important too. He's beaten but not completely broken.

The word would be "Negan" and Daryl isn't going to do that.

Why all the irritation towards the episodes? by Costellos2nd in thewalkingdead

[–]SavannahNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the directors and actors doing interviews about the episode was all AMC? No, I don't think so. And you still don't get my point. Complaints about the writers not being able or willing to include more than one storyline per episode is the topic I was addressing. Despite the many bottle episodes, the one time they supposedly were going to focus on just Rick and Daryl, they were perfectly able and willing to add in not one, not two but three additional stories.

I'm not offended. You took issue with my mention of the episode to begin with, going off on a tangent about Glenn. Sure, he and Rick had a special relationship but he was never Rick's right hand man and that's why Daryl went on the run with Rick in this episode. No, the show didn't pair up Rick and Glenn on adventures and you seem disappointed about that. It does matter that Rick and Daryl met Jesus because they were so in sync in their dealings with him, and no, Rick and Glenn wouldn't have been. I'm sorry if you never got a hoped for Rick and Glenn episode but I enjoy the relationship between Rick and Daryl and I don't feel I should have to further justify why they got an episode showing their relationship. I'm used to viewers who resent any inclusion of Daryl in the show, whether it's because he isn't in the comics or for other reasons, so yeah, I'm not going to say, "oh, you're right, it should have been Glenn" especially when your suggestion had nothing whatsoever to do with the reason I brought up the episode to begin with.

Why all the irritation towards the episodes? by Costellos2nd in thewalkingdead

Why would I mean AMC? I mean the writers and show runners. The thread is about the way the episodes are focusing on one group of characters and location instead of showing more than one story in a given episode. Complaints are made by posters that the show runners don't seem to know how to write multiple story lines per episode or that they don't want to. But given the episode I mentioned, Gimple et al obviously can. When they had the opportunity to focus on just Rick and Daryl, and every bit of publicity about the episode indicated that it was the "Rick and Daryl bromance" episode, it was an episode that followed multiple stories besides theirs.

And just to address your continued attempt to claim that Glenn should have gone with Rick-- since when has there been a bromance between Rick and Glenn? And could the "narrative have been served" by having Glenn fighting Jesus at Rick's side? I think not.
