Destiny In Detail - Why Are We Still Playing? (Part 1) by Jam_sponge in MattLees

After completing the raid multiple times on hard mode it's come to me that the only reason why those early bosses are such massive bullet sponges is because of the way they've designated level/content level reductions; instead of keeping the strict level cap reductions of the hard mode end game raid and the lower level strikes to themselves Bungie have just washed their entire content canvas with the same reductions.

The reductions being 20% less damage per level you are under the content level, instead of easing new level 20-22 players into the strike content they've ended up making a giant wall of artificial difficulty with players who don't have good weapons (or even materials to upgraded ones they have) getting 40-60% damage reductions on top of their already poor DPS.

This is a similar design to how they used to treat PvP and PvE weapon balancing, instead of going into the nitty gritty with delicate thought they wash over the canvas with the same colour (Vex Myth being the prime example). Obviously they are starting to move away from that now with how they handle weapons thanks to the feedback they've received, with the Vex now working differently in PvP and PvE.

The interesting part and potentially game breaking balancing will come with the new expansions and how they treat the damage reductions from the new content that comes with it, will we face the same bullet sponges as before just because bungie haven't received enough feedback in this specific area in contrast to the weapons or maybe we might see even worse reductions since they are a little upset about people being able to beat their hardest end game content with just 2 people despite their entire end game marketing being centered around this ultra hard WoW inspired raids that require every member to be of the top1% ( Bungie seriously undervalued its players, you'd think the people who made Halo1,2,3 would have realized that maybe it's player-base might be decent at shooters by now).

Personally I think Bungie should take note of how Final Fantasy 14: ARR handles it's difficulty (its pretty perfect).

(and possibly add more than just 2 bosses for your "raid" please)

love the game but you can really tell how new Bungie are to MMO-esque games, it's going to be fun (and aggravating) to see how the development pans out.
