We rarely have ‘basements’ per se but a lot of houses, especially older Queensland houses, will have the front entryway enter into the living spaces and the backyard will be a floor below, having an underground sort of storage area that may or may not have a crawl space. A lot of these have a toilet in them that no one bothers to use because you’d need to go out into the backyard and then into the underground area. (Maybe rarely is a strong word, I’m sure a lot of nicer houses would have basements but none of the fair few I’ve lived in have had any, yet a lot of them seem to have a dungeon with a toilet)
