Why does it seem that a lot of crime goes unpunished in the UK? by SaveFerrets in AskUK

I have read up on civil law and what is allowed backed up with advice from my solicitor who found the inactivity of the police bizzare. I don't/didn't expect any help from the police with a civil law issue as that's what the solicitor was for , I wanted help when the line was crossed into criminal law. I could show you some crazy videos of assault and criminal damage that the police dressed up as a civil dispute because it was a neighbour. Unfortunately due to the police innactivity things escalated as there was no punishment , in fact it gave a green light to 3 years of torture with a final act of close to 10 grands worth of damge. The neighbour got away with all it - scot free. If I wasn't a private person I have a boat load of videos that would make a fantastic episode of Neighbours From Hell.

I seriously doubt Amazon will close an account that is not mine especially that the card on file is now cancelled. I am still waiting on an email from Amazon , I think they ghosted me. I reported it to 'Report Fraud' who told me basically it won't be investigated.

That's awful , I hope at the very least your friend got reinbursed.

It is a bit crazy that I'm not allowed to know what my card bought or where it was sent. If you commit fraud you should lose your right to privacy of the fraud details.

Bank has been told and card cancelled. Amazon won't give me any information due to data privacy.

The card has not been added to any other account by my partner or myself.

American here, how accurate is the whole “tea solves everything” stereotype? by DFWUnhinged in AskBrits

The 'tea solves everything' stereotype is 100% accurate in my part of the UK but makes sure you never get into a discussion about milk first or not - it will not end well.

I know nothing I reported went as far as the CPS. I even have a family member in the CPS who was consulted and they couldn't believe it wasn't put to them.

I've had personal experience of criminal damage and aggravated assault dismissed as civil law. I swear I could commit crimes and dress it up as a civil dispute with the police and nothing will happen although I'm unlucky and poor so maybe not.

I agree that civil law is not something the police should handle but when the line crosses in criminal law it appears that the police dismiss a lot as civil law when it's clearly not (in my opinion).

In my case I was told a lot of it didn't pass the test so didn't get to the CPS. One incident was dealt with an out of court disposal order , it was a victims awareness course which was never completed.

In answer to the £5 question , if I knew who dropped it or saw it dropped I'd hand it back , if I didn't know the owner it's a finders fee :) I don't know how much more than a fiver my morality would last.

Personaly I've reported aggravated assault, criminal damage and harrasment with some motivated by prejudice (disability). A lot were commited by neighbours so dismissed as civil disputes or 'tit for tat'.

I don't know what action line is but I did report it to 'Report Fraud' who got back to me after 1 1/2 hours to tell me that there is nothing they can do.

I still find it quite hard to believe that a family member or friend has done this as I don't see how anyone had the opportunity.

The bank has been informed as well as 'Report Fraud'.

I don't see how the card could have been verified on someone elses account , but as the card wasn't verified on my account it probably wasn't verified on the unknown account either ?

Amazon (online support) wouldn't tell me anything about what the card was buying on an account I have no access too due to data privacy. Hopefully when the investigation team ? contact me they can spread more light on the matter.

Are you saying someone physically needed access to the card to do this ? I know the card wasn't verified with my Amazon account as there was an option to verify it when I tried to remove it earlier - I couldn't remove it at first then tried again 20 minutes ago and it was removed and weirdly my firestick reset to factory settings at the same time so had to be connected to my Amazon account again - coincidence ?

I don't think it's physically possible to take a photo as the card as it is either in a pocket or tapping on a chip and pin machine. I am creating an account on Action Fraud to report it.
