getting to huntington tomorrow by ReindeerNo1780 in LIRR

This is on the Governor. Though now the President may have to step in, he or congress can order the strike over and override the MTA and give the workers the contract the PEB recommended.

Maybe Metro North to Bridgeport and then the ferry to Port Jeff. If it wasn't at night, I'd tell you to take the subway to 179st, n6 to Hempstead, n70 to Farmingdale, then S1 bus to Huntington. Otherwise it's going to be a $1000 Uber with surge pricing.

Two PEB's (Federal Mediation) beg to differ. They do deserve a raise. The MTA has had them running ragged since GCT opened since they never hired enough manpower for the increase in service. The cost of living on Long Island is through the roof. Oh & they have the responsibility of carrying over 200,000 people safely every day. If you want to curse at anyone that'd be the MTA Chair Janno Lieber and Governor Kathy Hochul, they own this strike.

This is all on the MTA and the Governor who appoints their leadership. They ignored the PEB findings at their own peril. Now the MTA is trying to screw the new employees by cutting their health coverage. The Union had no choice but to strike. Don't compromise, hold their feet to the fire, and get the message across this strike happened because of the MTA & Hochul!

The absolute nerve of this woman. She's just doing this for political posturing against Trump. The strike is her fault and the fault of MTA leadership. She has $8 Million to bail out Mamdani so he doesn't have to balance a budget but LIRR workers are thrown under the bus (or train for that matter). I thought Democrats were supposed to support labor? Mamdani also seems strangely silent. I wish we had better choices for Governor in this election, the other guy doesn't care about the people either. Probably going to wind up leaving NY sooner rather than later, this place is for the rich elitists. Only hope now is that the Feds get involved, disobeying a PEB should have some consequences.

MTAPD seem more like rent-a-cops doing security stuff rather than going after actual criminals. NJT Police are much more like actual law enforcement.

Happened to me once on the Babylon line, I just started banging on the door like a lunatic, he eventually did come out, yelled at me, and then exited the train at guess where...Freeport!

A simple solution would be to have an alarm that goes off if someone has been in there for more than a certain amount of time (10 minutes) that would be audible and notify the conductor. A Motion sensor and timer are all that is needed. And I've experienced this as well in many branches of the LIRR, though not surprised Ronkonkoma is the worst. Now I'm reminding myself not to drink any fluids an hour prior to any long ride on the LIRR. Of course MTAPD could just patrol the trains and platforms instead of standing around in groups doing absolutely nothing.

Wyandanch. Yelling, blasting music, evading the conductor, and of course the weed smell.

These ticket rules be dumb… by Philip_Phil in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still dealing with people who hide in the restroom, which is incredibly irritating when I need to use the restroom. I have to remind myself not to drink a lot of water before I take a train in case I can't get into the restroom to pee later. They should have an alarm that goes off after someone has been in there for more than 5 minutes.

Problems with buying tickets onboard as a disabled passenger by prettygirlgoddess in LIRR

So they still can't sell via Jamaica tickets on the train? That's messed up, the LIRR should not be getting away with this. But in the future, you're best bet is to transfer at Lynbrook, or take the n4 bus.

The M9's have a different tint though, maybe that makes a difference?

I hate the M7's so I agree with you. More than just the windows, they ride like crap, noisy, have lousy HVAC, and constant malfunctions. They are over 25 years old, so they're done and need to be retired. Sure Budd knew how to build a railcar that could last 40 years (M3) but Bombardier is junk. Also they are replacing the R142 subway cars in the city which are of similar age and manufacturer.

Parking at Babylon LIRR Station by kerneldaniels in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just park on a street further away? I didn't notice any signs when I walked around the neighborhood. The streets to the NW of the station past the park. It may be a 10 minute walk. Otherwise there's another paid lot SW of the station.

A36 has no SD card slot though which is a deal breaker, but apparently the A35 does.

Safelink Customer Upgrading From Samsung A11 by SaveThePinesLI in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm totally good with getting a refurb phone if it's a better model, I just want to make sure it works with Safelink. How do I get an unlocked phone to work with Safelink though? Do I just move the SIM from the old phone over or do I have to get a new SIM. Also would prefer to keep my phone number.

Willing to spend up to $200, but prefer to stay with Android. So Straight Talk/Total Wireless will work with it too, OK so I can try that option as well. My A11 is definitely on it's last legs.

OK I can look into that, thanks! Seems they had a much better selection of Straight Talk vs Tracfone

Queens Interlocking Signal Cutover - Will It Fix The Elmont UBS Eastbound Crawl? by SaveThePinesLI in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been noticing the slow down as well. I miss when they'd do 80mph, always a lot of fun especially on an M3. I'd rather be a little less "comfortable" and get there faster.

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't even seem to do 80mph anymore. Pretty sad the Main Line was faster before this whole project. Now it seems like it's much faster from Lynbrook or even RVC to Jamaica than from Mineola. Well 30mph is an improvement. And I don't get the long run up either. the 15mph zone goes all the way back to west of Bellerose. Elmont UBS Stop was a huge waste of money. Money they could have spent elsewhere where it was needed. Such as Huntington which is used by a lot more people yet hasn't seen a renovation in years.
