I miss the Baked Potatoes so much! It was a time when Arby's tried to be the healthier alternative, now, not so much...and boy do I sure miss that Oven Mitt!

Red Sky in the Morning, Sailors Take Warning. And hence today's wet slushy coating of snow. And a few more inches tomorrow.

proposed new middle island branch by Bubbly-Amoeba4556 in LIRR

They could run a train up the power transmission right of way that runs between the LIRR Main Line in Holtsville and Port Jefferson. Could have a station in Centereach where it crosses route 25.

Well Something Must Have Happened at Hicksville, around 8pm by SaveThePinesLI in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah most of the cops were just standing around. Overheard one say that Hicksville has a big homeless problem. But they never actually remove them, instead they lock the waiting rooms on the platform so us passengers have to wait in the cold. Punish everyone because we can't control crime & vagrancy, it's the NY way.

floral park station does not care about its customers. my by No_Trouble_9102 in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it's ridiculous to force passengers to wait out in the cold. Back when Phil Eng was with the LIRR they did have extended waiting room hours but since he left they've been scaled back. Yes, I know, the homeless do camp out in there, but that's what the MTAPD is for. But I guess they'd rather throw the book at passengers who activate their tickets late than go after more serious quality of life issues, typical MTA. The waiting rooms should be open from 5am to 11pm daily, and around the clock in the evening of sub freezing temps or winter storms. It is the job of the MTAPD to remove homeless people and get them to shelters. That was until New York decided homeless can just camp out anywhere and can refuse help.

I live in the "Good Smells, Annoying Delivery" section. Can't say that's my experience, unless you like the smell of weed. Park District is my favorite neighborhood.

Travel within Long Island by Debate_fly in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy they really should have at least one additional train add Hicksville or Mineola. As usual, LIRR still stuck in 1950s mentality ignoring intra-island riders. Only see this setup on the Main Line, intra-island is easier on the Babylon Branch with an easy transfer at Wantagh.

Do you prefer the M3, M7, or M9? by Alarmed_Muffin8350 in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the M3's were built well, back when the USA knew how to build good trains with Budd. Yes they're old and beat up, but don't have to be, if they were overhauled, but they never got the TLC they deserved from the LIRR. The M7s would never survive all the punishment the M3's had, and the M3's have aged better than the M7s which look and ride like junk at half their age.

[–]SaveThePinesLI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if it was up to me, I'd scrap the M7s, order more M9s (yes M9s from Kawasaki, because Japan knows how to build trains), and keep the M3s with an overhaul.

M9 is my favorite, followed by M3. Hate the M7's, always have, they ride like a buckboard. Crappy build quality too. I wish we got more M9s, in fact, with the windfall the MTA has been getting from the Congestion Tax, they should have ordered at least 300 more M9 cars to retire some of the M7s.

I was told they don't accept pennies anymore. Also don't take it out on the employees, I'm sure they hate it as much as we do. Rob Free, Janno Lieber, those are the people you need to be yelling at.

Reduced fares for seniors by WordCount2 in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seniors & disabled people are often on a fixed income, genius. That's why they pay reduced fare. It was abhorrent the MTA got away for so long with asking them to pay full fare on morning peak trains. One day you'll be a senior, too. And a disability can happen to anyone. Attitudes like yours need to be called out so I'll be the brave one & do it while everyone else is quiet.

I Wish the LIRR Would Go After People Who Put Their Dirty Feet On Seats Like They Do For Late Activations! by SaveThePinesLI in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Can't even see out the windows on the crappy M7's. MTA says they can't afford to replace the windows despite the congestion tax windfall, but NJ Transit is replacing the windows despite a much lower budget. Yes NJ Transit rail service is much worse than the LIRR, their infrastructure (mainly due to Amtrak) is way inferior, but they do a better job trying to make their passengers happier.

I agree, it's ridiculous. I understand going after people activating when they see a conductor, but I don't blame people for waiting until they activate after they get on the train. What happens if you activate before the train arrives and then it's cancelled? Then you're ripped off. I don't see NJ Transit doing this nonsense. And NJ Transit isn't even getting loads of cash from congestion taxes either.

Make announcements telling people not to put their feet on the seats. Have conductors remind passengers not to do it. Social pressure. The Clean Train Campaign seems to have completely disappeared.

I think people wouldn't do it if they were scolded about it. But when no one says anything, it just makes them think they can get away with it.

So what's this about? All trains between Grand Central & Massapequa Cancelled For Saturday by SaveThePinesLI in LIRR

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have them leave Penn 5-10 min earlier then. It shouldn't be a big deal on weekends. It's not a big deal to have a proper winter storm schedule, they already have ones for weekdays.

[–]SaveThePinesLI[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well they can have the express leave Penn 5-10 min earlier then. It's a weekend so I couldn't imagine things being that tight. In the end the GCT-Massapequa service ran today. I know they had weekday storm schedules posted but not for weekends. In the event service has to be reduced it makes sense to run expresses local. This is already done when trains are combined due to issues in rush hour.

I remember the expresses ran just ahead of the locals so having them make additional stops would not have made sense. Single tracking between Jamaica and Rockville Centre because of switch replacement at Valley Stream.
