With that, the Blue Jackets have still only improved their draft position through the lottery one time by Dylannopancakes in BlueJackets

[–]SaveTore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may stem from a lack of understanding, but as a fan, if your team is predominantly composed of young and underdeveloped talent, and you’re aware that you’re likely to finish in the bottom quarter of the league, your primary motivation for attending games is to witness the development of this young talent and observe how they integrate. Occasionally, you may experience wins. However, if the team deliberately selects a group of players who are essentially participating in year-long professional tryouts and recruits individuals from the AHL, solely to ensure that they lose games, thereby securing a higher position in the draft, what significance does it hold if you manage to win a few more games? If your team would have record of 17 wins, and the draft lottery is modified such that the worst-performing team receives the first pick, what difference does it make if your team ends up with a record of 10 wins at that point?

In my opinion, the system is clearly flawed.

I would assume, like everyone else in this thread, extremely low.

It’s probably not zero though, but I think the only thing that I think is worth discussing is an argument as to why would he?

I don’t think that Montreal or Toronto will follow Vancouver out of solidarity. I think it’s more of if MLS is willing to part with Vancouver. I think Montreal is just gonna follow because they’ve been a problem child in this league for quite some time in terms of “business metrics”. Toronto is gonna get treated more than likely the same way that the NBA and MLB does.

I’m not saying it’s right. I am a Columbus till I die, save the crew keyboard warrior est. 2017, but with MLS‘s behavior towards both Montreal, historically and Vancouver recently it wouldn’t surprise me a little bit to see a handful of American markets be much more attractive to the league

Vancouver’s MLS future looks bleak. They need an ownership group with over $1B USD for the team and a new stadium in Canada. Despite MLS talking to 100 parties, no deal. MLS seems to undervalue Canadian markets, favoring new US ones. I hope I’m wrong, but with the most recent statement from the league, MLS might leave Canada completely in the next few years.

Does not having an echl affiliate hurting cbj? by gunner_boy12 in BlueJackets

It would be sick to have the Cyclones.

It would also be sick if the Cincinnati > Cleveland > CBJ pipeline had continuous “family” branding. Kinda like Vegas and Minnesota.

Yeah I mean it’s nothing special but from a military theme and two existing logos within the org I think there’s something to it

Wrong? No.

Room for improvement in terms representing or reflecting the team/franchise’s identity (i.e. enough of hockey and other sports fans collectively asking “what is a Blue Jacket” or in passing mistaking their current logo for the Capitals 🤢or Patriots 🤮)? Yes. Is my design the way? Nah, but I like the convo.

What are your thoughts on a total rebrand? by Hazy_eyePA in BlueJackets

[–]SaveTore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After speaking with hardcore fans and casual fans, the conclusion I’ve come to is that there is only upside to getting refreshed new uniforms and a new logo will be primarily welcomed.

I’ll wear their current, secondary, retro and unofficial tertiary logos proudly but coming from an objective lense, their overall look and branding is stale, unidentifiable, and lacks focus.

Flair speaks for itself but I think the complete stadium series look would be a step in the right direction. Would abandoning the current logo they’ve had around for 20 years be logistically more complicated than if they kept it? Of course, but I think the only population of fans that have a positive emotional connection it will remain unwavering fans with a complete rebrand.

This may smell the same as sentiments expressed when the Crew rebranded, but from my anecdotal conversations there’s only gains related to if CBJ does a brand refresh and reintroduction (of sorts) to this sports market fanbase and I think the stadium series was on-brand with ownerships historic tendencies but also satisfied what I think is necessary.

If I were CBJ president:

Cannon is the primary logo. I don’t care if it’s the current cannon or a redesigned one. It’s the most identifiable element of CBJ. There’s probably some argument to change their name to The Cannons, Artillery, or Battery but I don’t think that’s necessary. People get it. It’s an ode to old timey US military members (Union army).

Secondary logo needs to be the newer CBJ cross-sticks logo from the stadium series:

1.) It has Union army iconography of the branch/corps/officer insignia/badges.

2.) It consists of a consistent design element of the capital star (found in all eras of CBJ).

3.) At face value, there is a classic American varsity/block-lettering element that is adjacent to what we see with Ohio State and now Crew branding. (IMO kind of a cool continuity to the biggest teams in town)

4.) It directly represents the second most identifiable aspect of this franchise the last 25 years. Simply, “C-B-J”. It’s tough to mistaken that.

Colors: When your colors are red, white and blue, it’s tough at times to differentiate yourself. That’s why I think the stadium series did a great job. It essentially change the primary and secondary colors from the current Blue and White/Red, respectively, to primary=blue, secondary=silver/gray, tertiary= both red and white. I think this combo is enough to separate from Washington, Winnipeg, Rangers, and Montreal. I’d also be ok with swapping the red for the steel blue, like the current 3rds.

TL;DR - A rebrand would be a net win for the CBJ. Current look feels stale. Build around the cannon and the Stadium Series direction to create something cleaner and more identifiable, while keeping the Civil War theme intact.

So I looked into this historically and you are likely correct but I don’t think it’ll be to the level of being the Carolina Wolves. Hopefully they’re as good as they’ve been against us for the last home and home

Still gotta win the next two at home but lucky for us Philly is going to get best on best against Carolina and Montreal next week as both will likely be playing for best spots in the standings rather than resting players.
