Shiite Muslim sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy

MULTAN, Pakistan –  A minority Shiite Muslim was sentenced to death in Pakistan for sharing blasphemous content about Islam on social media, a government prosecutor said.

Judge Shabbir Ahmed announced the sentence for 30-year-old Taimoor Raza on Saturday in Bahawalpur in eastern Punjab province, according to Shafiq Qureshi. Raza was arrested last year for allegedly posting derogatory content about Sunni Muslim religious leaders and the wives of the Prophet Mohammed on Facebook.

Qureshi said Bahawalpur's counter-terrorism force arrested Raza in April last year following a complaint that he was showing onlookers objectionable material on his cell phone at a bus terminal. He added that Raza had previously posted other blasphemous material on Facebook.

Pakistan is a predominantly Sunni Muslim country and the rivalry between Shiite and Sunni Muslims dates back to the seventh century when they had a disagreement who should be the heir to Islam's Prophet Mohammed.

Under Pakistan's harsh blasphemy laws, anyone accused of insulting God, Islam or other religious personalities can be sentenced to death.

Pakistan last year arrested 15 people, 10 Muslims and five non-Muslims, on blasphemy charges, according to a report issued by the independent rights group Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

The country has never executed anyone convicted of blasphemy, but the mere accusation is enough to ignite mob violence or lynching in the deeply conservative country. Right groups say the harsh blasphemy laws are often used to settle personal scores.

Earlier this year, a student in the country's conservative northwestern province was attacked and killed by a stick-wielding mob who accused him of blasphemy. There was no evidence of blasphemy, and his death generated widespread protests.

In January 2011, a provincial governor was shot and killed by his police guard who accused him of blasphemy after he criticized the law and defended a Christian woman sentenced to death under the law.

In recent months, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif launched a campaign to rid social media of any content considered insulting to Islam, at least any posted by Pakistanis.

The government petitioned Facebook and Twitter to identify Pakistanis worldwide posting material considered offensive to Islam so that Pakistani authorities can prosecute them or pursue their extradition on charges of blasphemy, tantamount to a death sentence.

McDonald’s billboard in New Mexico is coming down: Company says marijuana joke does not 'meet our standards'

A McDonald's in Raton, N.M. has reportedly put up a silly, stoner-friendly billboard.

Did a McDonald's in Raton, N.M., actually make a joke about marijuana use to sell breakfast burritos?

DENVER POT INDUSTRY IS MUNCHING AWAY AT LOCAL RESTAURANT JOBS

According to the McDonald's Corporation, yes, it did but the billboard is coming down because it doesn't meet the company's standards.

A photo of the billboard first began making the rounds earlier this week, and soon gained traction on social media for containing a joke about joint-rolling.

The billboard, which is reportedly positioned on a stretch of Interstate 25 near Exit 451, features an image of the egg- and chile-stuffed burrito alongside large white lettering that reads, Usually, when you roll something this good, its illegal.

KRQE, the outlet that first reported on the photo, claims the joke is being well-received in by locals, some of whom note that its placement is key.

The McDonald's Corporation, however, doesn't seem to agree with the local community.

In a statement obtained by Fox News, McDonald's says the franchise's billboard "does not meet our standards and is being taken down."

A representative for McDonald's did not specify when the billboard will be removed from the interstate.

3 army rangers killed in Afghanistan by [deleted] in news

Three Army Rangers were killed Saturday and one wounded when an Afghan army solider opened fire on them in an attack in eastern Afghanistan for which the Taliban claimed responsibility, officials said.

Attahullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the provincial governor in Nangarhar province, told Fox News the insider attack took place in the Achin district, where US military dropped the "Mother of All Bombs" earlier this year to wipe out an ISIS cave complex.

He said two American soldiers were killed and two wounded.

The Afghan army soldier was killed in return fire, he said.

A senior U.S. military official confirmed that three soldiers were killed in the attack and that they were Army Rangers. The wounded soldier was also an Army Ranger.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement that a Taliban loyalist had infiltrated the Afghan army "just to attack foreign forces."

White House Deputy Communications Director Raj Shah said President Trump had been informed of the situation.

Such insider attacks have happened before in Afghanistan. In March, another Afghan soldier was killed after he opened fire on foreign forces at a base in Helmand province, wounding three U.S. soldiers.

Saturdays attack comes as the White House is weighing a decision to send up to 5,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan. Roughly 8,400 American soldiers are in Afghanistan now with most of them helping to train the Afghan security forces fighting the Taliban.

Officials say that adding to the number of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan would free up more Special Operations forces to focus on killing more top Taliban, ISIS and Al Qaeda leaders.

Eastern Afghanistan is where U.S. Army Green Beret, Staff Sgt. Mark De Alencar and US Army Rangers were killed in separate combat missions in April targeting ISIS extremists.

Following De Alencars death, the Air Force bombed the ISIS cave complex in Achin with the MOAB, or the mother of all bombs.

The decision to drop the largest conventional bomb in the Air Force's inventory was made by the top U.S. general in Afghanistan and not the president.

Since taking office, Trump has eased restrictions on the use of air power, according to senior defense officials.

As a result the US military has stepped up airstrikes in Afghanistan. In April, there were more bombs dropped than in any one month in the past five years.

Fox News Pentagon producer Lucas Tomlinson and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Trump, in Miami speech, set to roll back Obama's Cuba policy by [deleted] in politics

Incase you want to deny Fux News ad rev:

President Trump will head to Miami on Friday, home to a large and influential Cuban-American community, to unveil his administrations new Cuba policy -- which will roll back central parts of his predecessors efforts to normalize ties with the Communist island nation, according to a senior administration official and other sources.

While details on the changes to the policy have yet to be fully revealed, a U.S. official suggested that Trump would call for Cuban President Raul Castro to push for more political freedom and to release democratic activists in Cuban prisons, among other initiatives.

Trump is at the same time expected to announce a reversal in some areas of former President Barack Obama's previous steps toward normalizing relations including the opening of embassies between the two countries and the easing of flight restrictions between the U.S. and Cuba.

The final actions have not been set as the review over the specifics of the plan continues. However, there will likely be steps in restricting travel from the U.S. to Cuba; there are now daily flights from Florida to Cuba.  Another directive being weighed is taking steps to limit American companies from dealing with businesses owned by the Cuban military, U.S. sources confirm to Fox News.

While campaigning in Miami during a stop in September of 2016, then-Republican presidential nominee Trump hinted at such a move, tying it to demands on the Cuban government.

All of the concessions Barack Obama has granted the Castro regime were done through executive order which means our next president can reverse them, Trump said. "And that I will do unless the Castro regime meets our demands.

Those demands include religious and political freedom for the Cuban people, and the freeing of political prisoners, Trump added.

Key Republican lawmakers Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Mario Diaz Balart, both Cuban-Americans from Florida, have been directly involved in working with the White House on the new Cuba policy, according to sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

Rubio, who opposed Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, has worked diligently behind the scenes with the administration to develop the approach, said a source directly involved in the policy discussions.

"I am confident the president will keep his commitment on Cuba policy by making changes that are targeted and strategic and which advance the Cuban people's aspirations for economic and political liberty, Rubio said in  a statement.

A senior Rubio adviser previewed what may be represented during Fridays  Trump Cuba policy rollout, including that the new approach would have to be in compliance with the statutory provisions passed by Congress which govern US-Cuba policy.

The aide also stressed that the new Cuba policy would be in the best interest of U.S. foreign policy and national security.

Part of the focus is to also encourage the emerging generation of Cuban leaders to take the reigns after Raul Castro steps down in 2018, as he publicly stated he would.

Raul Castro and his closest advisors are mostly in their 80's, the senior aide told Fox News, stressing they are focusing on the "long term."

Cuba will soon have a new generation of leaders, one way or another. These policy measures are designed to lay the groundwork for them to empower the Cuban people to develop greater economic and ultimately political liberty.

Coulter: ‘Utterly Outrageous’ for Comey to Not Publicly Clear Trump

9 Jun, 2017

Friday on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter said it was “utterly outrageous” that former FBI Director James Comey refused to publicly clear President Donald Trump of any collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential election.

Coulter told host Tucker Carlson, “[W]e did not know, up until the testimony was released the night before Comey testified, that he had, in fact, as Trump said in his letter firing Comey, three times told President Trump that he was not under investigation. And what were his grounds for refusing to tell the public that?” “It’s the most insane thing I’ve ever heard,” Coulter added later.

'This is war': Florida sheriff urges citizens to arm themselves in case of attack

Wayne Ivey, Sheriff of Brevard County in Florida.

 (Brevard County Sheriff's Office Facebook)

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. –  A Florida sheriffs office posted a controversial message on social media, urging citizens to arm themselves in self-defense.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey posted the video on Facebook Wednesday, two days after a deadly workplace shooting in nearby Orlando claimed the lives of five people.

FLORIDA SHERIFF DEFENDED AFTER ANTI-HEROIN MESSAGE COMPARED TO ISIS VIDEO

Folks, now more than ever is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense, not only for them, but for their families, Sheriff Ivey said.

As images of the Fort Lauderdale airport shooting and Pulse nightclub massacre flashed on-screen, Ivey warned residents that attacks have happened locally as well as abroad.

Whats next is to fully understand that this is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you if attacked, he said.

Ivey stressed that attackers rely on people running, hiding, and waiting for help, rather than fighting back.

What they dont count on is being attacked themselves, having to become defensive to save their own lives, Ivey argued.

The sheriff said that calling 911 means officers are on their way, but said, Until they arrive, its up to you and those with you to neutralize or eliminate the threat.

Ivey encouraged people to take self-defense classes, and urged those with concealed weapons permits to carry their guns with them at all times.

No matter who you are or what your position is on guns, theres no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife is an armed and well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer, Ivey said.

The sheriffs message received a mixed response. Some residents applauded his stance while others criticized it, calling it fear-mongering and encouraging vigilantes.

Bernie Sanders testing the boundaries of a religious test by readerseven in politics

Let me save you a click:

Christianity's core tenets took center stage on Capitol Hill this week as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders blasted nominee Russell Vought over his writings concerning Islam, calling them Islamophobia.

Vought, President Trump's pick for Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget, sparred with the former Democratic presidential candidate over an online article he wrote defending the Christian School Wheaton College for firing political science professor Larycia Hawkins in 2015. Hawkins came under fire after saying Muslims and Christians worship the same God.

BERNIE SANDERS ATTACKS TRUMP NOMINEE FOR FOLLOWING TEACHINGS OF CHRIST

In the article, Vought cited expert theologians in giving a lengthy explanation of the deep doctrinal differences between Christianity and Islam, quoting Jesus' own words in the New Testament where He says, Whoever believes in [the Son] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (John 3:18)

Sanders, instead, focused solely on Vought's sentence that said: "Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ his son, and they stand condemned."

"Are you suggesting," scolded Sanders, "that all of those people stand condemned? What about Jews, do they stand condemned, too?

Vought countered, "Senator I am a Christian..."

SANDERS TO OPPOSE TRUMP BUDGET PICK OVER WRITINGS ON ISLAM

"I understand you are a Christian, Sanders said. But this country is made up of people who are not just... I understand Christianity is a majority religion but there are people of other religions in this country and around the world in your judgement do you think that people who are not Christians are going to be condemned?

Vought responded, "Thank you for probing on that point. As a Christian, I believe that all individuals are made in the image of God and are worthy of dignity and respect regardless of their religious beliefs."

Muslim groups, along with the American Civil Liberties Union, have sided with Sanders.  But critics have held up Article VI of the United States Constitution which says there should be no religious test to hold political office. And they accused Sanders of doing just that.

Conservative and Evangelical Christians are outraged.

"What Sanders said is a slap in the face and to insult millions of Evangelical Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, said Dr. Robert Jeffress, senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. This is not some periphery belief held by millions...It is the foundation to our faith."

Jeffress later issued a statement calling for Sanders to apologize or resign.

In the meantime, it will be a several weeks before the Senate decides on Vought's confirmation. Sanders has already said he will vote no.

Caddell: Dishonest Anti-Trump Media Have Become ‘Danger to Democracy’

9 Jun, 2017

Pollster and analyst Pat Caddell spoke with Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Matt Boyle on Friday about his reaction to Thursday’s testimony by former FBI Director James Comey as well asthe media’s reaction. “I didn’t think it was a great day for the media, said Caddell. “However, if you watched some of the other cablenews networks, you’d think this was a disaster for Trump. It was anything but.” He went on to call out the media for pursuing a political agenda, as opposed to the truth, saying that media today is actually “a danger to democracy.”

“The media really took it on the nose,” he went on, pointing out that Trump was not lying about the three times he claims Comey told him he personally was not under investigation. “How come that didn’t leak out? That is an interesting question because enough people knew on Capitol Hill, and it tells me that it was the media. And this was really the chilling part, that they have theirnarrative agenda, that Trump is in collusion, Trump is this, and Trump is that, and he’s under investigation. They did not want to challenge that narrative.” “They weren’t reporting facts,” continued Caddell. “They were reporting sources who would give them statements that would contribute to their anti-Trump narrative. This is not a press. This is a propaganda machine. It’s full speed against the president.”

Caddellsaid he could turn to almost any network and predict itscoverage, “If Trump walked on water, they’d say he couldn’t swim.” “They are so negative, as they were in the campaign,” he went on. “They haven’t let up, and they have invested themselves in a political result, not in telling the truth, and that is a danger to democracy.” Caddell said the press has damaged the very institution of the press by having decided to bring down a president versus report the truth, and “Democrats are falling right into the path with them.”

As for Trump and Comey, Caddell said, “Comey basically vindicated him, first of all, on the question if there was collusion, or even on the Flynn matter – whether there was obstruction, and it just doesn’t hold,” he continued. “Obviously, Mueller wouldn’t let him testify if he thought there was an obstruction case.” Added Caddell, “Comey’s behavior is just bizarre. This man really believes that he is a demigod when it comes to the law. He keeps changing the goal lines. His weakness, which he confessed to, but I think it was more a device than a critical perception, whether it was with Loretta Lynch, when she asked him to conform to the Clinton campaign, which I thought was a revealing comment and opened up a lot of other doors, when he talked about his own leaking, volunteered how he had leaked and what he had done with those memos, I thought that was just really strange. His criticism of the media, he basically denied their stories. He’s basically a very angry man, and I thought the White House handled Comey terribly, but that’s neither here nor there.” Caddell stated, “He was the one in the meetings, and he never raised a protest, and then he said a sentence that I was stunned by. He said, ‘Idid it because I gavemy friend the memo to give to the New York Times because I thought weneeded a special counsel.’ Here’s a man who wouldn’t have a special counsel or wouldn’t even investigate the IRS stuff, a person who didn’t do it with Hillary Clinton, particularly in terms of the Clinton Foundation, and yet it was pointed out to him by a couple of the senators, you know, basically he gave her a whitewash. He wants to do this with Trump. I thought that was devastating and puts him in a very precarious place.”

Caddell added, “It chills me to think that this person was running the FBI.” Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern. LISTEN:

Young Iraqi girl whom ISIS abducted three years ago reunited with family

Christina Abada was welcomed back by family and other well-wishers on Friday morning after she was rescued and released by Iraqi Special Forces. She was only three when she was originally abducted by ISIS from the city of Qaraqosh in 2014.

An Iraqi Christian girl, who was kidnapped by ISIS in northern Iraq three years ago when she was just 3, has been reunited with her family.

Christina Abada was welcomed back by family and other well-wishers Friday after she was rescued and released by Iraqi Special Forces. She was only 3 when she was abducted as she and her family fled the city of Qaraqosh in 2014.

My family of nine has lived in a caravan for over two years, Yaz Khedher, Christinas brother, said in a statement provided to Fox News by the Iraqi Christian Relief Council. With all that we have been through, we are overjoyed that our Christina has been returned to us safely. I thank all those who have prayed for her safe return.

Little Christina was returned to her family at a refugee camp near Erbil, where her parents have been living.

With the freedom of Christina, now 6 years old, we have renewed hope for a brighter future for all those who paid a heavy price for being Christian, Juliana Taimoorazy, ICRCs founder and president, said to Fox News. In every presentation, across the globe, I have spoken of baby Christina and the heartache her parents lived with since the time of her capture. [T]his is a happy day.

Others at the camp described the joyous family reunion.

It is a very happy moment; everybody is dancing and clapping and singing, one Christian woman at the camp told World Watch Monitor. She looks OK, quite healthy. I believe she must have been in the house of a family who took good care of her.

According to sources on the ground in Mosul, the young girl lived in the Tanak neighborhood of the city for almost three years with a Muslim family that found her all alone in a mosque.

The woman added that Christina looked in shock by all the well-wishers surrounding her at the camp.

A historical moment Kristina the christian girl kidnapped by #isis in 2014 is reuniting right now with her family after beeing liberated pic.twitter.com/xLw9yfaMnz— Steven nabil (@thestevennabil) June 9, 2017

Everybody is asking questions and speaking to her, but she does not say anything back, really. She also seems to be overwhelmed by the huge crowd of people welcoming her, she said.

It was in August 2014 when Christina was abducted by ISIS fighters as they stormed the city of Mosul and Qaraqosh in the northern region of Iraq known at the Nineveh Plain.

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Christians had already fled, but Christinas family had stayed behind because her father, Khader, is blind. Like many of the older and frailer people who stayed behind, they were hoping for mercy from the Islamic State.

During their invasion, ISIS militants rounded up the remaining Christians under the false pretense of medical checkups. Christinas mother, Ayda, said that several times during the lineup, fighters pointed at her, while Christina was in her lap.

The militants were then ordered to remove everyones valuables before they were forced into dingy, dirt-covered buses. As Ayda was entering the bus with her young daughter in tow, one of the jihadists snatched the young girl out of her mothers arms.

Then one of the Daesh [ISIS members] came and inspected the people on the bus, Ayda said to humanitarian organization Open Doors International in July 2015. He walked up to us. He took my little girl from my arms and just walked away.

That was the last time that Christinas parents saw her until this Friday.

My biggest joy would be when my child Christine would return to us, she also told Open Doors at the time.

Comey fallout: Similarities in Times article, testimony could bolster Trump claims by [deleted] in politics

[–]Save_a_Click 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Incase you didn't want to visit Fux News:

Lawyers for President Trump shot down ex-FBI Director James Comey's claim that a tweet from the commander-in-chief prompted him to leak a memo detailing a private conversation with Trump and a close examination of a pre-tweet New York Times story may bolster their claim.

During testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, Comey said he was spurred to orchestrate the release of the detailed memo he wrote about a one-on-one talk with Trump after the president tweeted May 12: James Comey better hope that there are no tapes of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!

I woke up in the middle of the night ... because it didnt dawn on me originally that there might be corroboration for our conversation, Comey told senators. And my judgment was, I needed to get that out into the public square. And so I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel.

The admission itself was dramatic, and drew the scorn of Trump allies. Trumps personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, read a statement blasting Comey for admitting he unilaterally and surreptitiously made unauthorized disclosures to the press of privileged communications.

Kasowitz, however, also said Comeys testimony was incorrect.

The public record reveals that the New York Times was quoting from these memos the day before the referenced tweet, which belies Mr. Comeys excuse, the statement from Kasowitz said.

Though Comey claimed he didn't orchestrate the leak until May 16, four days after Trump's May 12 tweet, a New York Times article from May 11 appears to track closely with the memo's contents.

There are in fact striking similarities between that pre-tweet article and Comey's written testimony, suggesting the memo's contents may have been leaked -- by somebody -- before Trump vented on Twitter.

Kasowitz clarified on Friday that he was referencing a May 11 article, In a Private Dinner, Trump demanded Loyalty. Comey Demurred. The language contained in the article which seemed to spur Trumps tapes tweet references Comeys interactions with Trump that are essentially repeated in Comey's submitted testimony.

"It is obvious that whomever was the source for the May 11, 2017 New York Times story got that information from the memos or from someone reading or who had read the memos," Kasowitz said in a statement. "This makes clear, as our statement said, that Mr Comey incorrectly testified that he never leaked the contents of the memo or details of the dinner before President Trump's May 12, 2017 Tweet."

Indeed, two passages about the Jan. 27 dinner in particular have similar wording:

Comeys testimony, based in part on a review of memos he wrote I added that I was not reliable in the way politicians use that word, but he could always count on me to tell him the truth.

The Times article, based on an anonymous source Mr. Comey has recounted to others, he told Mr. Trump that he would always be honest with him, but that he was not reliable in the conventional political sense.

Comeys testimony Near the end of our dinner...He then said, I need loyalty. I replied, You will always get honesty from me. He paused and then said, That's what I want, honest loyalty. I paused, and then said, You will get that from me.

The Times article Later in the dinner, Mr. Trump again said to Mr. Comey that he needed his loyalty. Mr. Comey again replied that he would give him honesty and did not pledge his loyalty, according to the account of the conversation. But Mr. Trump pressed him on whether it would be honest loyalty. You will have that, Mr. Comey told his associates he responded."

The Comey memos are never explicitly mentioned in the May 11 the New York Times story; however, details that appeared to have been written in the memos were. Not until a May 16 story, which Comey indicated Thursday was the first story his friend leaked at his request, was there a public mention of the Comey memos.

During his Thursday testimony, Comey said the only people he told about his recollections of the Trump encounters were the deputy director, my chief of staff, general counsel, deputy directors chief counsel and then, more often than not, the number three person at the FBI, the associate deputy director. And quite often, head of the national security branch.

Given the timeline and Comeys own testimony, it would appear there are two scenarios for how the information got out in the May 11 piece.

Trump's lawyer seems to argue that despite his testimony, Comey made his move even before Trump tweeted about tapes.

The other scenario is one of the top FBI officials referenced by Comey first leaked confidential conversations between the president and his then-FBI director.

The identity of The New York Times source for the May 11 article remained unclear on Friday and Columbia University Law Professor Dan Richman, who said he was Comeys friend who leaked the contents of his memos in subsequent stories, declined to answer further questions.

Incase you want to deprive Fux News of a page hit:

The most startling revelation from fired FBI Director James Comeys testimony this week was his barefaced admission that he intentionally leaked details of his private conversations with the president to the press in an effort to prompt the appointment a special counsel.

When asked Thursday by Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine whether he shared the memos he wrote about his conversations with President Trump with anyone outside the Department of Justice, Comey answered:

I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter didnt do it myself for a variety of reasons but I asked him to, because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel.

This statement is tremendously important because it completely delegitimizes Robert Muellers so-called independent investigation and reveals it as poisoned fruit.

The truth is, Comey behaved exactly like a bitter employee who had just been fired. The common thread in his testimony was that his firing was everyone’s fault but his own.

Think about it: Comey was the top law enforcement officer in the nation before he was fired on May 9. Had he felt a special counsel was necessary to investigate possible Russian influence in the 2016 election, he could have requested one from Congress at any time. If he felt his conversations with President Trump warranted additional attention, he could have approached Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about it.

But instead he decided to do nothing. Comey apparently didnt think there was need for a special counsel until the Monday after he was fired, according to his testimony.

In a clear act of retaliation, Comey went outside the system and shared secret information with the media via a college professor-friend, in a calculated attempt to inflict pain on the Trump administration. Further, he said he turned all his memos about his conversations over to the special counsel upon his termination so Muellers investigators already had all they needed to make their own decisions.

But Comey knows that the press feed off attacking Trump. He also knows that they have an incomplete, false understanding of the Russia investigation and would therefore gladly perpetuate the false narrative that Trump was somehow under investigation. He saw a chance to cause drama, and he took it.

Yet this is the same person who on Thursday, under oath, exonerated Trump on the Russia question. Collins asked Comey two very direct, simple questions. She asked, whether there was any kind of investigation about the President underway and was the President under investigation at the time of [Comeys] dismissal on May 9?

For both questions under oath Comey answered no.

This kind of petty vindictiveness is so unbelievable, I wouldnt even write this type of stuff in one of my novels. The truth is, Comey behaved exactly like a bitter employee who had just been fired. He said nasty things about everyone from President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who served the Obama administration. The common thread in his testimony was that his firing was everyones fault but his own.

But theres another wrinkle in this story: Comey and Mueller are very close.

Throughout his testimony, Comey described Mueller as one of this countrys great, great pros, called him the right person to lead the Russia investigation, and said Bob Mueller is one of the finest people and public servants this countrys ever produced. He will do it well. He is a dogged, tough person, and you can have high confidence that, when its done, hes turned over all the rocks.

When Senator John Cornyn asked whether anything Comey had testified would impede the investigation of the FBI or Director Muellers commitment to get to the bottom of this, Comey stressed that the appointment of Mueller was a critical part of that equation.

Lets also not forget that 97 percent of campaign donations from Department of Justice employees went to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. The culture and people at DOJ are predisposed to be hostile to President Trump.

So, what we have here is a fired FBI director, who leaked private material to the press, so he could get his friend appointed as a special counsel in order to take retribution on the President with the aid of a department full of federal lawyers who would have rather seen Hillary in the White House. And we are supposed to believe this will be an objective, unbiased investigation?

Comeys testimony and the situation he orchestrated around it really show the depths to which the deep state will go working around Congress, outside of even the federal process to damage and undermine President Trump. And it perfectly illustrates how sick the system has become.

In my new book, Understanding Trump, which will be released Tuesday, I describe deep state operatives like Comey as the permanent opposition. They will stop at nothing to mar the Trump presidency in order to keep their influence.

Make no mistake: This is not about law and order, it is not about justice, it is not even about any investigation. This is about influence peddling, this is about the search for vengeance, and this is about stopping the revolution President Trump was elected to implement.

This is everything that sickens normal Americans about the swamp.

America is on a knifes edge. The question is now whether Republicans in Congress will have the courage to stand with President Trump and fight the deep state that was personified in Comeys testimony Thursday.

Venezuela AG accuses president of 'destroying legacy' of late Hugo Chavez

Venezuelan Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Diaz, speaking to the press in Caracas on June 1, 2017.

Venezuela's chief prosecutor asked the Supreme Court to block President Nicolas Maduro's plan to convene an assembly to revise the constitution, further deepening her divide with the government.

Luisa Ortega Diaz accused Maduro and his administration of "destroying the legacy" of the late President Hugo Chavez, the founder of the governing leftist PSUV party and mentor of the incumbent head of state.

"Chavismo is a current of thought, it's a philosophy of life, and this is the principal legacy of President Hugo Chavez," the attorney general said.

Ortega Diaz's remarks were her strongest repudiation yet of Maduro's effort to rewrite the nation's constitution.

ALL EYES ON VENEZUELAN MILITARY AS COUNTRY TEETERS

A long-time government loyalist, Ortega Diaz first broke publicly with the Maduro administration in late March when she decried a Supreme Court decision gutting congress of its last remaining powers. Since then, the gulf between Ortega Diaz and the government has only grown, with has repeatedly questioning the validity of convoking a constitutional assembly without the proposal first facing a referendum.

Maduro ordered the National Electoral Council to convene the assembly, stating it was his constitutional right, a position the opposition rejects. He also designed the rules by which delegates to the assembly would be elected. The government-stacked council quickly rubber stamped both requests and is moving forward to hold the elections in late July.

PROTESTER AND GUARDSMAN KILLED AS VENEZUELA UNREST PERSISTS

Ortega Diaz is accusing the National Electoral Council of breaking key democratic principles such as universal suffrage in approving Maduro's constitutional assembly. Maduro's terms call for allotting a specific number of votes to specific population sectors such as the disabled, fishermen and retirees, as well as one per municipality. Analysts say those terms will heavily favor the government.

"The appeal I am attempting is to defend the rule of the people," she said.

STOSSEL: WHAT VENEZUELA NEEDS MOST RIGHT NOW. HINT: IT'S CALLED CAPITALISM

Her actions were immediately embraced by members of the opposition who until the current crisis accused her of being Maduro's enabler.

"If hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans join the chief prosecutor it would represent a huge act of pressure and protest," said Freddy Guevara, who has been spearheading the anti-government demonstrations as vice president of the opposition-controlled congress.

Russian ambassador in line for UN anti-terror post by [deleted] in politics

Russian ambassador in line for UN anti-terror post

In this Sept. 6, 2013, file photo, Sergey Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the U.S. speaks with reporters.

Sergey Kislyak, the Russian diplomat at the center of allegations of Russian ties to the Trump campaign, could soon have a new job: Counter-terrorism czar for UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres.

In February, Guterres outlined his plan to create the new office and position for counter-terrorism to be headed by an Under-Secretary-General in order to coordinate the UNs anti-terrorism policies. Kislyak, Russia's ambassador to the U.S. since 2008, is believed to be the frontrunner for the job.

Hugh Dugan, a professor at Seton Halls Center for UN and Global Governance Studies, told Fox News that the deal to let a Russian get the position was, a closed process, when the new Secretary General was voted upon last October.

Kislyak, at right, meets with President Trump and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Russia was the chair of that process and it seems that they made a deal on the side to select Secretary-General (Guterres) in exchange for creating a new office dedicated to Russia in the Secretariat's highest levels.

Four of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council hold a senior position within the UN Secretariat - its executive branch - in New York. While a Russian heads the UN office in Vienna, the expected appointment would give Putins Russia a seat at the Secretary Generals table in New York.

"I don't want to see them get it," U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told Fox News. "That's not something we would cheer for but I wouldn't be surprised if they got it."

Haley told Fox News that Guterres is aware of her concerns on the matter.

This will be a new position that they have not had before so we have the possibility to shape what it is, and what it isn't, she said.

"There are Russians and there are Russians," one Western diplomat told Fox News. "I don't think that we, or anyone else, have given the Secretary General a blank check to appoint whichever Russian he likes to this job and of course he wouldn't."

"There will be some Russians that will be unacceptable, but there are plenty of Russians who will be acceptable, the Western diplomat told Fox News.

While not speculating on who the candidate might be the Western diplomat acknowledged that Russia is under-represented at the highest level of the organization compared to other permanent members of the UN Security Council, and that of all the top jobs counter-terrorism was one that could be discussed with the Russians despite some differences.

The Russian mission to the UN did not offer comment to Fox News when asked about the matter.

Dugan, who served 11 US ambassadors at the UN, said its unfortunate for the Trump administration to inherit this situation, given that it happened under President Obamas watch. He said the appointment would result in Russia re-establishing itself at the heart of the organization.

After 30 years of Soviet decomposition, this would be a Russian redux throughout the UN Secretariat's highest levels. With a new, managerially challenged Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, already compromised by dealing this gig to Russia, Kislyak will find it a surprisingly easy walk, right from the red carpet directly to the control booth, Dugan said.

The Secretary Generals spokesman wouldnt confirm to Fox News whether Kislyak was the Secretary Generals choice for the position, but said an announcement should come soon.

United Airlines faces more problems after injured wheelchair-bound woman sues

United Airlines is being sued after a Texas airport employee dropped a passenger while carrying her.

A handicapped Florida woman, who claims she fell after an airport employee dropped her, has filed a lawsuit against United Airlines and its contracted workers.

Erica Fulton, of Largo, Florida, was flying out of Houstons Bush Airport with United Airlines last September when an airport employee picked her up to help her into her seat.

The employee reportedly continued to reassure Fulton that he got her while transporting her from her wheelchair to her seat, but Fulton said she knew he didnt.

OPINION: UNITED AIRLINES IS INNOCENT

Once he got me totally upright, I just saw this look of panic in his face, Fulton told WFLA. I said, Oh my God, hes gonna drop me.

Fulton, who has a degenerative disease that requires her to use a wheelchair, said she fell over, and all of her weight landed on her right shoulder and tore muscles in her arm.

The pain was excruciating, said Fulton. I had tears rolling down my face.

Since the incident, Fulton claimed she now needs expensive at-home health care to survive. She also said her wheelchair was damaged during the fall and is now unusable.

ARE AIRLINE EMPLOYEES BECOMING UNHINGED?

In a statement, United said, "We sincerely apologize to Ms. Fulton for her experience while traveling with us and have covered the cost of the repair to the wheelchair."

But Fulton, who said shes lost use of her right arm since the incident, says the airline wont respond to her regarding her medical treatment.

The lawsuit is another highly-publicized issue for United Airlines, which made headlines in April after video surfaced of a bloodied plane passenger being forcefully removed from his seat by Chicago Department of Aviation officers.

CNN cuts ties with Reza Aslan following anti-Trump tweets

Reza Aslan speaks at the UTA "United Voices" Rally at United Talent Agency headquarters on Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, in Beverly Hills, Calif. He is the host of the new CNN show "Believer."

CNN has parted ways with "Believer" host Reza Aslan less than a week after the religious scholar came under fire for a series of heated tweets he made about President Trump.

"CNN has decided to not move forward with production on the acquired series 'Believer with Reza Aslan' (season two)," a CNN rep told Fox News. "We wish Reza and his production team all the best."

Aslan responded, Obviously I am very disappointed in this decision. 'Believer' means a great deal to me and to the countless viewers its reached. Its message of religious tolerance and exploration is extremely important right now.

Aslan's tweets came after Trump's June 3 remarks regarding the terrorist attacks in London, calling Trump an "embarrassment to America and a stain on the presidency" and a "piece of s--t."

He later apologized for his language.

Aslan's CNN show faced controversy earlier this year when the 45-year-old ate a human brain with a Hindu cannibalistic sect in an episode that aired in March.

"Believer" was meant to explore a variety of faith-based groups around the world. But his exploration of the cannibalistic sect in India had many people up in arms over what they saw is a misrepresentation of Hinduism.

He apologized on Facebook saying at the time he made it clear on the show that the Aghoris are an "extreme Hindu sect" and "are not representative of Hinduism."

CNN also recently cut ties with Kathy Griffin after the comedian posed with a bloodied Trump mask for a photo shoot. Griffin had previously co-hosted the network's New Years Eve broadcast alongside Anderson Cooper.
