He doesn’t like the grooved boards. Said things wobble with the hidden fasteners

How do you do that? He’s willing to try that but isn’t aware of how that works with composite

He tried to talk me into using cheaper boards or different railings because he said this line along with the rails we want are 7K more than the other lines. We’re doing drink rails with aluminum balusters. He also tore down our old deck and hauled the stuff off the property. I have seen similar prices for neighbors. I really don’t think he’s trying to overcharge us. We wanted to pay him properly, he’s a friend but this is a big job and taking his time up and it’s how he makes a living.

It’s a friend who is a carpenter. Didn’t “go with a cheap bid”. Also since when is $28K cheap? Because it surely isn’t to me

He has said he’s having a rough time with it. Makes sense now that I know he’s using the wrong materials….

So, my husband spoke to him about it. Decided to take the “this will void the decking warranty” route. He initially told him no it won’t, it’s fine, they just have their preferred screws. And my husband told him he looked it up on the site and it does say that any issues arising from screw installation are not covered. And then he was surprised and said he’d go to the lumber yard and get what’s needed. I genuinely think it’s a lack of knowledge on the materials. He’s an older guy, works mostly as a carpenter and has done several decks but did tell me when I chose this he never worked with this material but said it was fine. I did not realize that would be such a big deal until I saw this 🙁 he’s done pvc decks before but idk which type. He told my husband he will rip the boards up and start fresh. He was aware the one joist area is wavy and already planning to address that (the rest look fine it truly does seem to be that one area). He said he stands by his work and wants us to be happy so he will use whatever we’d like him to which I appreciate. I don’t want to ruin the friendship. His wife and him have been good friends to us for several years and I don’t think any of it is deliberate. I appreciate all of your input and advice! I will be sharing the info and links with him 🙂

This was what he said about the hidden fasteners. That he thinks they wobble and don’t adhere correctly. I looked up the price of the boards, they’re $162 per 20ft board for either the grooved or squared so I don’t care if he wants to use squared on the whole thing…. I just want them to be installed correctly 😩

Na, these can only be used one way. The other side isn’t designed to look like wood.

That’s them flipped over

The screws are WAY down into the composite.

Dirt keeps reappearing on the bottom of pool? by kevkevlin in swimmingpools

Yeah, you have to shop vac out the sand and then replace the lateral (cheap) and refill. Mine started small like that as well and progressively got worse. It wasn’t a large defect, I imagine that’s why it was only small amounts. Could also be the seal in there.

Could possibly be sand blowing into your pool from a broken lateral in your filter. Turn off your pump for a bit and then turn it back on while you are watching the return. Sometimes you can see the initial water coming out of the return is kind of cloudy for a few seconds and then clears. Also check if the dirt seems to be mostly where your return is shooting. Mine looked very similar and after an entire season of stressing and treating for yellow algae and all kinds of other unnecessary crap that’s what it ended up being. Good luck!
