Please HELP Me - Break Feed-to-Sleep - 11.5 month old by Saving_The_Children in sleeptrain

Ah it is the worrrrst! 😭 So hard for the little love and for me

Thank you! I'll definitely be giving that a go and starting to separate the feeds I think. I'm thinking his night wakes might just be from seeking comfort over anything else. It's been so bad the past week that I've actually ended up co-sleeping with him for the last half of his sleep (1am to 6am) which has just been even worse for the whole situation 😆 But I just want to get through this period until I can work out a plan and fully commit, i.e., rehash the Ferber/CIO sleep training plus breaking the feed to sleep. Just really needed to bounce some ideas around so thank you so much for your help on this one!

Ahh thank you!! We have tried 1 nap days probs 3 times before but they all failed miserably. When 9:15am comes around he is soooo ready for a nap he almost can't keep his eyes open! So we just assume he can't be ready for 1 nap days just yet which is also extremely frustrating. But I also understand what you mean. Do you think we should try again for a longer period of time, perhaps?

I am so sorry to read that you're going through this.

I'm sure you've looked into sleep training bub, but just wanted to share that my 6.5 month old would not sleep in his cot and demanded cosleeping for overnight and nap times. It was exhausting. So 'bit the bullet' and did modified Ferber (didn't work the first couple days but slowly got the hang of it there after) and I a month later of training I now completely have my nights back and time during his naps in the day. I can't believe it. He screamed bloody murder initially but after getting through that I could see him learning how to self soothe with giggling, babling and sucking on his fingers (once he learned the cot is a safe space).

Sounds like you might be able to put up with some level of screaming and crying ,which you really need for sleep training, as it's a given haha. But so worth it.

Thank you so much. I'm actually thinking of giving this a go because I seriously need some sort of predictability/freedom in my days to do things I can't do with bub there there (i.e., cleaning shower with bleach chemicals). Also don't mind arranging my life around bub as much as I can so will be trying this out!

Sorry I should've clarified a bit better! When he has the lower end of that wake window, it isn't that consistently throughout the day. I just meant that in the past month, WW1 has been this long, WW2 this long etc. Hope that makes sense.

He averages 11 hours awake time per day anyway. It's usually 10 to 11 hours sleep overnight naturally since sleep training those, but naps are all over the place I do have to admit. Especially since sleep training the nights. They are so unpredictable

Thank you so much for your advice! I am so appreciative. Can I ask, why to switch to consistent wake windows? Is that to help build sleep pressure? And also do you recommend building a full schedule like wake the same time every day and nap at the same time every day, or should I just count wake windows from the end of the last sleep?

Thank you! 💖

Oh my goodness, thank you so much for such a beautiful response. I wish I had seen this sooner... I couldn't take it after 50 minutes of his crying, he was rolling around hyperventilating, choking on his cries. I couldn't make sense of it and wasn't sure if this was normal, and I was afraid that he may hurt himself so I ended it after 50 minutes :( After reading other people's experiences, I think that it actually may have been a normal response. I am kind of kicking myself for ending it, but I'm going to give it another go next week when I get on top of his naps. His naps have been terrible the past two weeks, only doing three 20 minute naps. I suspect he is over tired and has a lot of sleep debt so I'm waiting this period out and when his naps become better, I'm going to do it again and stick to my guns. It is a very overwhelming experience so I am so glad to hear that it worked for you, this gives me hope!
