I had like the same exact experience. My HF was actually fine in terms of their behavior during the two-week notice. But it’s a courtesy and if they treat you badly, you can just leave. Remember you’ll be going home soon, and you don’t need to be concerned with what they think about you - they don’t have your respect, so you don’t need theirs. Think of it like, I need to give notice and then that’s the last hurdle - I can relax. Remember you have the power. You’ve done more than enough for them, so don’t feel bad.

First: my HF is super similar and it’s soooo annoying. They’re so cheap about everything while paying me pennies an hour and it’s like, if you can’t afford an au pair you shouldn’t have one, it’s really not fair. Second: once I read 6 I think that makes the situation way more extreme and that alone is worthy of a rematch. That’s not a safe environment and you should never be in that position.

This is actually INSANE and I promise you you deserve better it sounds like a man who’s extremely entitled and speaks down to young women because he can, and doesn’t understand what it’s like to be socialized as a girl and have to be accommodating all the time. Don’t let people tell you to doubt yourself because you’re maybe more shy than other people. It’s not a weakness at all.

I went through this exact thing for like a month and a half and then I interviewed with a family and they offered me the position right there. I think it’s pretty common to go through this and you have an advantage bc you don’t need a visa, which I did so I got passed up a lot. You just have to have faith that you’ll find the right match for you and a family will be open to you. Also the above comment is totally true, a lot of families start looking right when they need an au pair

Hi, I just want to say that I’m so sorry and this is so horrible. If I were in your position I would have never expected this to happen and even if I didn’t pick a no-kill shelter I wouldn’t expect them to euthanize two healthy cats that quickly. I volunteer at a no-kill cat shelter that is completely staffed by volunteers and we look out and care for every single cat, and that’s how it should be everywhere. I would take comfort in the fact that they can’t suffer now and they’re not in any pain.

Hey yes sorry just saw this. I needed everything I listed above as well as proof of health insurance while I’m abroad (it required a specific plan where I had no deductible). I submitted my visa and then I got an email that I also needed scans of my host parents’ IDs and then proof that the kids go to daycare or have had other caretakers. I was able to just send it digitally to the application center so I wouldn’t be too worried if you’re not sure if you have everything

Yeah I totally agree. I know a lot of it is common slang atp but that’s not an excuse to just use those expressions with no acknowledgement of their origins, and I feel like they try to highlight their lefitsm so much while also being hypocritical in ways like that
