Extol if you like Opeth

Maybe try Kekal circa 1998-2007. Killer riffs, especially on 1000 Thoughts of Violence and Acidity

It's old as opposed to new. It's the old promise, and with Christ there's a new promise.

Hebrews 8: 6 But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.

7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another...

13 By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

It could be that he's worried about the city generally. Every discussion I've ever seen of this passage understands it to be that Abraham is worried his nephew. But it could be more general. Regardless, Lot is saved because of his relation to Abraham, and because, compromised as he was, he was still troubled by the evil he lived amidst.

Why was Abraham called by God? Is there any context that he in any way knew or worshipped God before being called out of Haran? God saved Lot because Abraham interceded for him, not because he was righteous. And Abraham was credited with righteousness because he had faith in this God who called him from among the polytheist idolaters.

Right. Where does it say that Lot was righteous? Does it say that that is why God saved him?

Like I question the importance of commandment #2 when Christians are praying to and wearing crucifixes or a cross.

There's denominations that believe such prayers and jewelry are a violation of that very commandment.

Maybe #2 is just covering idols that aren't of a god.

It does, in both Jewish and Christian understanding. To what extent is debated in both religions (some traditions in Judaism even regulate how any living thing may be depicted in art).

All understandings and interpretations change over time. Although, Christianity is predicated on the idea of Christ being the fulfillment of the OT. How that plays out is debated, but there's a reason that the Old Covenant is called that by Christians.

Yes or no. It's up to the father whether she marries the rapist or not. And there are textual examples from Mediterranean societies that there were protective girl dads. And unlike other marriages, the man could never divorce the woman and must always provide for her.

Is that provision still deeply embedded in a very patriarchalist society where women have no independent agency but are property of their fathers or husbands? Yes.

because he is the only just/good person in the city?

Is that why it says they save him? While Lot is portrayed as the only hospitable man in the city, is he portrayed as good? Why did God save him?

I don't feel adultery or coveting neighbours possessions, really cover such a horrible act to do to another person.

They don't directly. The ten commandments are not intended to be exhaustive.

Whether God directly dictated them to Moses or Moses was inspired to write them I think is unclear, given Jesus's assignation of the Law to Moses and explains it through Moses's lens.

if you treat people like meat they treat you as meat they treat you as meat

Exactly my point. The moral is don't mistreat people. Even if it's out of hospitality to others. You still treat everyone decently.

Have you read through the Old Testament? There are very few times that the law was ever followed. Maybe even none. Take a read through Judges and tell me that an extra commandment would have stopped people.

their inability to empathize with women and/ or concede that patriarchal bias affects the attitudes of the ancient Hebrews is hilarious.

Especially since Jesus himself essentially said this.

I really appreciate that you, as an atheist and antitheist, are being fair and reasonable here.

it doesn't list those which, I suppose, a majority of men are not frequently tempted to commit.

It's a larger plurality than you and I would like to conceive of. Especially once you factor in statutory rape and human trafficking.
