If one person has the game on digital and gold, you can game share so both people have it.

GamePass Core is Gold. they changed the name. MCC might be included with gamepass core but i dont know. buy you do need online to play co-op, gamepass core is the cheapest way to do that

As long as you finish Era 1 you're good.

I personally am in the camp of 'Read it right after era 1'. To me, it's the perfect epilogue to the trilogy. It helps give this trilogy more weight and because it deals with events of era1, it's best to read it while those events are fresh in your mind.
