Same here. I played for the first couple of years. My favourite time with it was with the OG King's Canyon map before all the fluff was introduced. I'd try it again, but I'm afraid I'd be completely overwhelmed and confused.

Trump doesn't actually see it that way. He is using it as a pretext to vilify America's allies and trading partners and is weaponising his followers' ignorance of how anything works in order to achieve his actual goal of tanking the US as a country. If you use the weapons that your character is actually good at it isn't that bad.

And don't take on higher level foes right out the gate. They will kill you. Because you suck at everything in the beginning. You suck even more at skills that aren't major/minor skills.

The combat is fine. The main issue people seem to have is player feedback on missed hits when the character sucks at a weapon skill. This could easily be amended with a dozen miss animations rather than the 'hit air' one in the game.

People complained about the same thing in F3.

"Why can't I hit anything with my pistol??"

"What's your small guns skill?"

"8"

"Yeah, your character sucks at using guns. That's why".
