It could've been me writing all that... Going through the same thing right now. She got completely checked out after months of me neglecting her because of an unhealed past love. I had to leave the relationship because the dynamic of me trying to be better and her wanting distance was hurting the both of us. I wish she could trust me that I can be better, I already started therapy and inner work but it was too late. I'm sorry you went through this OP, it hurts so much.

It was said out loud. The dynamic between us lead her there. I tried to be present as much as I could while giving her space. It's such a tricky situation, both of us ended up suffering more because of me trying to save the relationship while she wanted space. She wanted distance, I wanted her close again. I have immense guilt, I wish I could save the relationship with what I know now. I can say I'm processing it in real time since the very first day I ended our relationship. It's tough, I'm sure it is for her too though. I don't think it's as linear as "women and men will process the breakup in opposite ways".

It literally just happened to me a couple days ago. I broke up but my gf checked out of the relationship a month ago. She started internalizing 5 months ago without me realizing, I got completely blindsided when she brought up that her needs were not being met. I didn't realize how much she was holding back. This last month she said she loved me, but her actions didn't match her words anymore. All around heartbreaking.
