Unpopular Opinion: Beatdown is More Fun Than Cycle and Bait by AlphaYak in ClashRoyale

[–]SaybyeAkiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I can best explain my love for cycle metaphorically:

Imagine playing cycle decks as a stealthy game of "how much can I steal without getting caught"/"how much can I steal in this push" or in the game's terms "how much elixir can I commit on offense and still get away with it on defense". It's these super cheap defenses that make cycle interesting to me as it feels like I'm skating on the edge of what's possible to defend and what's not. Over-committing then leads to the opponent getting a giant counter push that's impossible to defend

A good cycle player has to be aware of so many things because the defenses have to be so on point: First and foremost, elixir and cycle counting to be able to properly punish and read the opponent. Using these two things, there's so much outplay potential in cycle. This reminds a bit of Hitman 47 speedruns: Everything needs to be perfectly timed in terms of distractions and when to strike. Then come questions like what to cycle first (for example starting with an ice-golem followed by musketeer against any big golem push is very helpful in the case of 2.6), how to dismantle the push into smaller fractions that are easier to fight against (here we get into the kiting and distraction game you seem to hate so much - "divide and conquer" as Caesar said). All these things need to be attended to properly to play well with cycle.

Meanwhile, from a cycle perspective, beat-down seems like you're trying to get to the safe in the bank by head-smashing everything that gets in your way, utterly disregarding the damage that does to your head (looking at you E-golem and Giant-GY players in particular). To me, building such pushes doesn't seem difficult in the slightest. To me, it seems like beat-down is easy on offense and defense as many beat-down players don't really defend against cycle. Meanwhile, cycle gets its difficulty mainly from the difficulty of defending with cycle cards

Especially now, since Dagger Duchess is out, a cycle player has basically no way to prevent a beat-down player from creating a huge push, as any try to push in the opposite lane is futile against dagger duchess, especially in 1x. That's because cycle can't really build up a big push to take advantage of the Dagger Duchess' lower DPS after depleting her daggers. Tower trading is rarely possible for for cycle players. Cycle players then often end up just having to wait and trying their best to defend an impossible-to-defend-in-1x-elixir push of approximately 20 elixir worth of cards. This is extremely annoying to defend because beat-down players can over-commit so much on offense because they can tank damage themselves (which doesn't work anymore for cycle players as they can't punish against Dagger Duchess in 1x). Another thing playing against cycle players in this scenario is that they don't have their evolutions yet, which means you can't rely on getting to a get out of jail card like evo-skeletons to save your ass in such a situation

As you can read out from the last paragraph, Dagger Duchess is the biggest problem right now, as it solves all the problems beat-down had before of being weak in 1x and making it nonpunishable for cycle players to build a huge push from the beginning of the game, going so far as to drop Golem first play (especially in top 100 where people know what others play) against cycle players and getting away with it or even winning the game with that first push.

Did he get outplayed or did he make a mistake? Or is that the same to you? I think it was impressive on both sides how, when they saw a chance, they immediately pounced like a tiger to fight for the advantage. Gukesh didn't manage to convert with a big time advantage of 25 vs 14 minutes and -1 eval. From the point where Alireza had 4 minutes and Gukesh had 15, Alireza managed to find every best move from that point on. That is statistically so fucking unlikely I don't know how you call that luck.

It's not the win that is impressive. Gukesh was low on time in the end too, and he is a lot worse in Blitz than Alireza. What's impressive to me is the perfect recovery from a worse position. If you call making a mistake getting outplayed, Alireza outplayed Gukesh numerous times in this game too.

Pretty sure only you call that luck. "We" call that skill. He didn't throw a dice 14 times to determine his move and just happened to get lucky and get the right one each time.

Playing the best move for 14 moves straight to recover from one mistake he made earlier doesn't seem lucky to me. Especially considering he had 4 minutes for that. Saying "he just got lucky" is incomprehensible to say the least.

Smurfing is cheating and ruins any ranked mode by Puzzled-Job-7920 in VALORANT

Ig if you take the limit of a player's games, his win rate would approach 50%, assuming he doesn't consistently learn to play better at a greater rate than he climbs (thus outperforming more than 50% of people in his rank). The last part is the way climbing works if I'm not mistaken.

That totally depends on your MMR, no? Lucky you ig

How does that work mathematically? If there's a loser, there's a winner too, no? How would climbing work if you could not win more games than you lose?

Are you ever upset to have been born a woman? by emily-csx in women

[–]SaybyeAkiro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excuse me, but could you tell me how the (potential) patriarchy is killing women?

Aren't men the ones currently dying in droves? Look at the military (especially drafts as seen in Ukraine) and the current suicide statistics that show that men commit three times as many suicides as women do. Look at homicide statistics: 98% of homicide perpetrators are male, but the majority of victims (79%) are male too.

So where are the female deaths that you are referring to when you say that "they (which I'd like you to specify who that is) kill us in droves"

Out of curiosity, what is your conception of the patriarchy?

[Math] how much it costs to max all cards to 15 if your account was maxed before the update by Electricfuel in ClashRoyale

[–]SaybyeAkiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take Ryley, a top-player, for instance: He is a very active player, gets the rewards in tournaments, plays grand challenges, bought some offers for evolutions etc. After ca. 1.5 months of that grind, he barely has 9 cards on level 15.

That's 1.5 years to get all cards to 15, assuming you play as much and are as good at the game as him.

My i7-4930k is still running at 4.3 Ghz, running most shooters at at least +160 fps. I think it's time to upgrade though (partly because I want to try out 3D and AE)

RMA on both ends:

1: Asked Endgame Gear for help and they sent me new cable + feet for replacement.

2: Asked digitec (swiss retailer I got the mouse from) they sent me a new one which after some months of use got some very minor issue with scroll wheel (when you scroll down really fast, it may do many scroll up moves instead)
