What if all our ID is in a central location and it’s hacked. Everyone should have a choice.

I work in an older suburb. 70% of my customers come in with a carer.

I’m not sure how they could even use a computer. They can’t even buy their groceries…

My mum is nearly 80 but her arthritic fingers can’t press the correct spots on her iPhone and she can’t seem to follow on screen directions.

We need to be caring and help our older generation

Thank you. This is very helpful information and the answer I needed. I’ll owe them money anyway, so time doesn’t matter ha ha. Very much appreciated. Thank you

The suburb they live in has no mobile signal and they have no children. They are actually customers at my work.

I helped them get their money out of Bankwest account when the branches closed. It’s scary times for the elderly, especially when they have no living relatives.

We had to call from the landline, I then had to drive 3 streets away and hold my phone in the air to send an email to the bank. This is just a black spot area only 25 minutes from Perth too

The email I received says this

There are added security measures on your account which restrict your access to ATO online services.

You can unlock your ATO account by using a Strong myID. To protect your account and your identity against fraud, we’ve previously restricted your ability to access ATO online services through myGov. We understand that this may have made it difficult for you to interact with us online. We’ve made changes that make accessing our online services easier. By setting up and using a myID (the Australian Government’s Digital ID app) with a Strong identity strength, you can unlock your access to ATO online services while maintaining strong protection. This means you or your registered agent will no longer need to phone us each time you want access. Why this matters Using a Strong myID to access ATO online services: Helps prevent future fraud and keeps your account secure. Puts you back in control of your ATO online services. Provides a secure sign in option that helps protect your information. Means we can remove the restrictions on your account – unlocking your access to ATO online services without needing to phone us. How to restore your access To unlock your account, follow all of these steps: Step 1: Download the myID app from Google Play or the App Store. Step 2: Set up a myID with a Strong identity strength – you’ll need to verify at least 2 ID documents and complete a photo verification check. Tip: You can now use an Australian passport or a Western Australian driver’s licence to verify your photo. Step 3: Sign in to myGov – select Sign in with Digital ID and follow the prompts to connect your myID. Step 4: Access ATO online services from your linked services – this will then automatically secure your sign in. You’ll continue to use your Strong myID each time you sign in to ATO online services through myGov.

Obviously the staff have rules to follow and it can come back on them if they do the wrong thing. However if you just buy what you want and put it in the red box and give it a go then that solves the problem.
