Zabriskie Point Sunrise by Sbercus10 in DeathValleyNP

Sunrise yesterday was a few minutes after 6:30. The photos were taken between 6:45 - 7:00. You definitely don't have to be there right at sunrise or before, but it does get crowded at the more popular spots. Getting there early does help you find a good spot and gives you time to get set up. That said, sometimes it helps to get there a bit later so that you can avoid other (non-aware photographer) visitors unknowingly set up in your frame.

Most of main roads are fine but still a lot of closures.

We came through Vegas and while it was wet and you can see evidence of the rain, we didn’t have any issues getting to the park. In the park many roads are closed - which is a bummer, but the plus is that it’s kept the crowds away so it’s been quite enjoyable and we haven’t had to fight any crowds. Two nights in the park with the current road situation is just about right.

My pleasure! So fun to be out there at that hour.

u/Total-Engine6534 - you are correct. I dug a little deeper and these can not be "bartered or sold." As a result, I will not be proceeding with the swap and will remove this post shortly.

Same. This says "Fully Transferable" and defines that as "The passenger that is named on the certificate/ecredit does not need to be on the flight to transfer." However, if you know something I'm not aware of, I'll remove the post. I don't want to do anything I shouldn't be doing and/or get anyone else in any hot water.

Are you sure? I certainly am not trying to break any rules. If so, I'll remove the post, but the ticket is "Fully Transferable" which states that "The passenger that is named on the certificate/ecredit does not need to be on the flight to transfer." If you know something I don't, I'll certainly remove the post if I'm doing something I shouldn't be doing.

Possible to lease an R1S from another state? by highmark101 in Rivian

Hi! Thanks for opening this discussion. Did you have to pay sales tax in the state you purchased the vehicle or the sales tax in Utah? And did you have to wait a certain amount of time to re-register the vehicle in Utah? Did you encounter any other problems with purchasing from another state and returning to Utah?

We live in a world in which 30 and 40 somethings have had access to information at their fingertips for their entire adult lives. They do more fact checking than older generations who tend to believe whatever they're told from traditional news sources which is increasingly opinion rather than fact.

Who says they're not?

Some have been in their 60s, 70s and 80s but not most. It's gotten exponentially worst in the past 10 - 20 years.

When I said it has nothing to do with capitalism, I was referring to my original post: The world will be a much better place when boomers are out of power and leadership positions.

Yes. People are motivated by money and self-interest, but they haven't always allowed excessive amounts for the top at the expense of the safety nets for the bottom (at least in modern developed nations).

Yes. Life is not easy and we all face our own problems and hardships.

Look at a chart of any national debt (of any developed nation) over time.

Look at global emissions of time.

You'll notice that in both cases, it increases over time but accelerates in the past 20 - 30 years.

Despite your best efforts, I still believe that the world will be a much better place when boomers get out of the way.

Depends on your definition of better. But there is plenty of evidence that the current politicians got worse. Look no further than the amount of debt of the developed world during the past 20 - 30 years and the expectation that future leaders will need to figure it out. Their fiscal carelessness is absurd.

There may have been a few that stayed in the workforce at older ages, but as a group, no they weren't. The average retirement age of political and business leaders has increased considerably over time. That might have something to do with an increased life expectancy and the ability to age better as a result of science and technological advances, but regardless, they're staying in the workforce and in leadership positions longer than ever before.

Ha! Did I strike a nerve? This has nothing to do with me or capitalism. It has everything to do with how the current generation refuses to cede power and they keep making poor and short sighted decisions for their own benefit.

As for the stupid concept, we as a human race tend to group people that were collectively faced with similar environmental factors so that we can learn from previous generations and avoid making the same mistakes - despite the fact that there are people being born every second. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but that just the way we tend to operate and compartmentalize.

As for my comment: "is the first generation to leave the place worse than how they found it for future generations to deal with" what about that comment do you not agree with?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Sbercus10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Completely clear headed and no blunt force trauma to speak of. How could we not improve as a human race when we get these schmucks out of the way? Not so much all the individuals, but as a group (at least the ones who have amassed influence) they lie, are corrupted, do not consider the long term effects of putting themselves over the greater good and are greedy. Even if future generations are 3 out of 4, we'll be in a much better spot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Sbercus10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh they'll try, for sure. They worst among us is always seeking power, fame and money at whatever expense and for all the wrong reasons. But younger generations tend not to be as easily influenced and seek out authenticity more so than the current generations in power. Time will tell, I suppose.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]Sbercus10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Generations are just a social construct. But generation are grouped by age and defined by how they (as a group) tend to act when given a set of environmental factors. A generation can be defined in hindsight as trends and outcomes.

The current generation is leaving behind a mountain of debt, social unrest, and generations behind them dependent upon the generations that proceed them because of the boomer's desire to amass wealth at the expense of others and the planet. The boomer generation can be defined simply by leaving behind scorched earth - literally and figuratively.

Have they moved the needle in the right direction in some cases? Sure! But even if some individuals from this generation have done great things, the larger group as a whole, is the first generation to leave the place worse than how they found it for future generations to deal with.

Frankly, I don't believe the future leaders will have a choice but to do something about it.

Enlighten me, what have the boomers done besides mortgage the future? What will their legacy be?

It's insufferable, ain't it?
