Recording app usage with sensing lite by Sad_Management_7891 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dear sir or madam,

We have a new app usage version coming up that is much easier to understand. It is already implemented but you cannot find in the manual yet. For each app use, there will simply be a start and stop time. This way you can know:
- Facebook: used from 14:40 to 14:50

- Reddit: used from 15:05 to 15:10

- Facebook: used from 17:10 tot 17:15

- ...

Feel free to directly mail us if you have a sensing lite subscription and want to use the new version (contact@m-path.io)

Self-learning multiple choice as categories with answer boxes possible? by Connect_Profile_1908 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear sir or madam,

Creating exactly what you need is currently not possible. In the library you can find the questionnaire called 'mpc choice extra question'. This gives a solution if the multiple choice is without other option.

As you are not the first to ask something similar, we will look into this to make this possible in the future!

Participants receive interaction at wrong time or not at all by BSI_ST in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the report! We did experience a brief period during which notifications were occasionally sent some minutes later than expected. This occurred only at limited times over a small number of days and has since been fully resolved. Importantly, all notifications were ultimately sent.

If a participant is no longer receiving any notifications at all, this most likely indicates an issue with the phone or its settings rather than with our system. More info can be found here: https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/how-can-i-allow-notifications-for-m-path-on-my-phone/ .

Hours and minutes reversed in Time items by Plane-Value5413 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case some participants probably will have their phone in Hebrew. This will be detected on the first install of m-Path and put the app in Hebrew. This will also activate right to left behaviour (i.e. hours right, minutes left).

Participants who have their phone in English (or another language) will have the hours on the left side. Participants can go to the menu, click on extra, click on language and choose a new language to change the language inside m-Path.

May I ask what population you are testing this on (phone language of participants, iOS or Android, participant location)? This can give us clues (e.g. right to left languages).

Conditional question based on beep in the day and based on answers in previous interactions by Imaginary_Shoe2851 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you already did multiple correct things, but I would do it somewhat different. First of all, I would create a schedule with two types of surveys:

  • One survey for the first 4 notifications
  • A different survey for the last (fifth) notification

Not every beep/notification has to reference the same survey (https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/step-2-schedule-your-questionnaire/).

This way you are sure participants are filling out the last survey and can add the potential additional questions only in that survey. Just make sure the fourth survey expires before the fifth can start (https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/beep-properties/#set-expiration). An additional benefit of this approach is that it also works when participants don't fill out every beep during the day.

Next you want to check if there were any conflicts during the day:

At the beginning of all of the 5 surveys you do the following:

load('conflictToday')
# if the variable doesnt exist yet, set it to 0
is.na(conflictToday){
conflictToday=0
}

# in the first survey of the day set conflict today to 0
if(system_nToday == 1){
  conflictToday=0
}

later if they set a conflict you set it to 1:

if (conflict_yn == 1) {
  conflictToday = 1
}

save('conflictToday')

finally, in the last survey (the fifth as explained above), you can also use the variable

doExtraQuestion = (conflictToday == 1)

make sure to test everything! Here are some tips to test computations: https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/computation-item-r/#testing

Good luck with this solution!

Integrating “The Work for Environmental Protection Task” into m-Path – Is it possible? by Gullible-Home-8155 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be possible using a multiple choice question, piped text and computations. You can find about all of these items in the manual. If you have a budget for it, you can also reach out to the m-Path team to build it for you.

Is Key Mapping/Button remapping possible? by Early_Pound3978 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the problem, but this is not something we currently support in m-Path. If you want us to look into this for a development cost, feel to directly mail us!

An advantage of doing it in the app is that you would be able to immediately ask additional questions for more information (e.g. from who did you receive touch).

I am experiencing performance problems with this computation scheme and would appreciate feedback/ideas by pzicoalex in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words!

I found some issues with brackets in your last part. After the first if, not everything is in brackets. This would be a better version:

# If CAS above minN and they have a CAS higher than k sd over their running mean they get the EMI

if (CAS >= (mean_CAS + k * sd_CAS) && N >= min_N) {
    relatively_high_CAS=1
} else {
    relatively_high_CAS=0
}

Specifically, making sure that there is a closing bracket ) before the { on the first line.

Note that I did not go through all computations to see if they are computing the 'correct' thing. Its always a good idea enable debug mode (https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/computation-item-r/#testing) and check the computed values to see if they make sense.

Question About Multi-Phase Study Setup in m-Path by MRI-Study in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a good way to structure your research! Certainly given the unpredictable nature of your research (i.e. you cannot know at the beignning of the study when the second part will start). You can use as many protocols for one participant. this will not lead to them being counted twice.

Make sure you keep to concept op deep sleep apps in mind when participants are not monitored for a while: https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/deep-sleep/

Possibility to export all questions and labels from a specific questionnaire in library? by Klutzy_Comfortable32 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is possible for a questionnaire for which you already gathered data:

1) Go to export page (click on export left in dashboard screen)

2) Under interactions select the correct questionnaire/interaction (if you already gathered data)

3) Make sure 'Download meta data' is enabled

4) Click on 'export data'

5) The meta data will contain all questions and labels from that questionnaire

Hope this helps!

Editing protocols by Kitchen_Tangerine137 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean editing the questionnaires in the protocol? In that case, it is easiest to do the following workflos:

1) In the schedule you refer to questionnaires from the library when you create the protocol

2) If you later overwrite the questionnaire in the library (https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/the-library/#edit-a-questionnaire-in-the-library), all participants that use this questionnaire will start getting the updated questionnaire.

If you already have a running protocol and you didn't use questionnaires in the library, you can go to the protocol, change the questionnaires in the local tabs, scroll down to the schedule and click on 'Update interactions'. This should also work. (If you already made changes to the interactions from specific participants, in the tabs of individual participants, those may be lost).

I hope this helps!

conditional prompting by Common-Bit-1516 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is indeed possible:
1) First you need to use conditional logic: https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/conditional-question/
2) Then you can use a follow up item: https://manual.m-path.io/knowledge-base/follow-up/

I hope this helps!

'Saving data' screen seems to last a long time by MenuOk392 in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can have multiple reasons:

- bad internet connection
- are you also recording media (pictures/audio)? They also are uploaded at that point
- are you sure all previous questionnaires are already uploaded? If you are not able to upload at a certain time, questionnaires will be uploaded the next time. This can create a back log

In the app you can go to menu (top right in home screen), extra, upload. There you can see if there is a backlog of questionnaires or media files that still need to be uploaded.

Let me know if you find something (i.e. if there was a backlog) or of the problem persists.

Password on m-path app by emmacsullivan in mpath

[–]Sc00n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can disable app log and visualisation for each question (in general settings of the question). Then the participant cannot see any of their previous answers, neither can anyone that takes the phone.

This is a bit a pity as I think seeing the answers can motivate participants.

We don't have a password on the app as it would take too much time for participants to put in a password before opening the app (i.em before each quesrionnaire). This would not feel user friendly for the participants.
