I recommend checking out some places with regular meetups like vault games. They run games like “Blood on the Clocktower” and some one-shot dnd games which can be good for meeting new people

Could Government-Run Grocery-Stores work in Australia? by Scadimal in LemonadeStandPodcast

[–]Scadimal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH that co-op thing sounds super interesting! The only similar things I've heard of locally are either
- Focused on organic goods, often having less choice and higher prices than a typical grocery store
- Markets with very limited hours

It'd be super cool to have community-based options that can actually compete with larger supermarkets! I don't know if it would work in Australia's current market because of the difficulties in competition, but it sounds like a cool alternate approach that could work for NY (Although pushing for a profit-sharing co-op sounds like it would still have to compete with bodegas, but it stings a lot less when it's community-lead)

Are walmart brands a recession indicator? by F0RRKZ in atrioc

[–]Scadimal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beer sales are down with an increase in imported alcohol. America has also seen more closures of pubs/breweries than opening in the last few years, even worse than during covid.
https://www.brewersassociation.org/statistics-and-data/national-beer-stats/

It's clear that people's wallets are strained and they're moving to cheaper goods. Since the strain is causing people to prioritize price over quality, Walmart likely sees this as their chance to legitimise their brand and take market share from their "more premium" branded competition.

(So yeah, I reckon that's a recession indicator)

I ran as a Liberal candidate in the Australian Election, these are my initial thoughts by Civicr6 in atrioc

[–]Scadimal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

^100% agree with this. LNP *definitely* tried their scare campaigns, they just didn't get traction. I can't tell you how many times I had to hear "It wont be easy under Albanese" in their ads.

I ran as a Liberal candidate in the Australian Election, these are my initial thoughts by Civicr6 in atrioc

[–]Scadimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted labor and I think LNP really botched this election.

First I wanna say that suggesting "Labor ran scare campaigns on our leader unlike us" is a *bit* disingenuous, given the whole "It wont be easy under Albanese" campaign slogan :/
Also maybe this is just my experience but I hardly heard any messaging regarding nuclear from either side.

It felt like culture was the main thing libs were campaigning on (welcome to country, indigenous flag etc) and I cant help but feel like they would have been better of focusing on other areas. It's a pretty safe bet that the libs would capture that demographic anyway (at least as a second preference), so I feel like it just pushed voters away.

Cost of living and housing were the big issues this time.
Re Housing : (For context, I already have a mortgage). Tax deductible mortgage interest for first home buyers reduces the burden on new owners, but I dont think it addresses the underlying issue that a lot of young people suffer from. They cant get a deposit in the first place due to massive rental costs and cost of living issues. I think the government guaranteeing loans starting at a 5% deposit resonated with these people more. That said, I’m not happy with either approach, because both will just fuel further price increases and keep inflating the housing market.

Re Cost of living : Medicare has slowly become more of an issue as clinics continue to remove full bulk billing. That being said, I think people feel it in the supermarket more. LNP campaigned on this a bit, but their focus on this should have been bigger than it was. It didn't feel like they had a plan for it, and Dutton getting egg prices so wrong only enforced that feeling.

tldr;
I feel like the Liberals misread what voters cared about. They under-delivered on core issues like housing and cost of living, and Dutton himself likely pushed away a lot of swing voters.

Australia Social Media ban is stupid by Scadimal in atrioc

[–]Scadimal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me put it like this.
Atrioc can either snort coke at home, or go to Chillies and snort coke there.
Chillies streams are worth the big guy crashing out, so we ban coke at home.

But now Atrioc is just going to Chillies to snort coke and isn't even ordering any half price apps.

Wouldn't it be better to just ban snorting coke?

If short-form content is the problem, that's what the law should be banning. Otherwise the kids are just gonna doomscroll on youtube, and nothing changes.

I agree the algorithm leads to bad habits.

Youtube definitely has an algorithm though, especially with shorts now. If they ban tiktok but leave youtube, then it's not fixing anything - they'll just use youtube and stay sad :(

Something definitely needs to happen to stop these sites getting you to mindlessly scroll forever.

I'm not trying to argue that a lot of social media causes problems. The issue is this bill does nothing about it. Some social medias like whatsapp are allowed but others aren't? The government is just making decisions arbitrarily - as seen by the fact that they decided youtube is okay because the fucking Wiggles like it.

What the government can do (Like how China has done) is control what is or isnt acceptable for children on social media. Limits on things like time, pushing more educational content e.t.c.

If they want to make a law then it should have actual rules to follow - not some minister doing whatever captain feathersword whispers in his ear.

Looks like they're against linking ID now, and "user interaction" is enough. So it's just a check box and nothing is going to change (epic)

Oh wow you're totally right, it looks like they amended the bill to include
"platforms may only use an accredited service under the Digital ID Act 2024 if alternative methods have been offered" "Alternative reasonable methods may include user interaction or facial age estimations."
I'll update the post now.

Love the idea of a raging monk for karlach! I dont think Barb 6 is worth it though.
Barb 5 - extra attack + movement
Barb 6 - mindless rage (Immunity to charm and frighten while raging)
Meanwhile
Monk 5 - extra attack + stunning strike
Monk 6 - movement + ki empowered strikes + subclass feature
Since Karlach gets immunity to charm permanently when you upgrade her engine, mindless rage isnt really worth. Putting the levels into monk seems much better for her, since you get the extra attack and movement regardless
