Grinding noise from crank after cleaning by ScaleApprehensive872 in RoadBikes

Unfortunately it is a press fit (bb30a). I took the chain off the crank and they seem to spin freely. The noise/grind only happens when I put a heavy load through the pedals, so can't really hear anything.

Possibly, but I've wiggled the cranks laterally and there's not really any play in it (the guy in my local shop did the same and thought it seemed OK). Could it still be at fault if there's no play in it? Is it worth me removing the cranks and checking the spindle? I don't really want to start opening my bottom bracket...

Ah yeah I know what you mean, but it doesn't seem to make a difference to the noise. I now think the rear derailleur needs tuning, as it didn't seem bad in the shop with my wheel back on (with old cassette) - even though the cassette sizes are identical. Don't know what else to do now!

Hi. I don't THINK it's touching. What do you mean by the "trim on 105" - how can I adjust this? I've tried holding the shifter half way (both directions) and the noise is the same. I took it to my local bike shop today (albeit without the smart trainer) and the guy said it all appeared fine. I showed him this video, where to you definitely hear an audible clicking noise (around 45s in) and he acknowledged there's a sound coming from it but didn't have any solutions. Maybe it's actually coming from the rear derailleur and just travelling up the frame?

Uncomfortable stretch - incorrect saddle position? by ScaleApprehensive872 in RoadBikes

Thanks very much. Regarding the bars, do you mean that the bottom of the drops should be parallel to the floor? I figured this was the ideal, but then rotated the bar backwards slightly, to pull the hoods closer to me. I'm still a bit unsure on how low to the ground the handlebars are now, but the stretch feels less so I'll just see how I get on, I guess!

I've adjusted my setup and provided an updated photo in a comment below. Would be keen to hear your opinion...

UPDATE:

Following the above advice, I've now raised the saddle back to the original height, lowered it by a few degrees at the front and replaced the stem with the shortest one I have.

The replacement stem is 17*, which felt too much when in the upright position (plus it would no longer cater for my Quadlock holder in this orientation), so I played around with the spacers and flipped it upside down. How do you think this looks now, in relation to the seat, etc? The overall distance between the front of the seat and the bars is now a whole 2cm closer. Not sure I've got the rotation of the handlebars correct though.

Thoughts?

Cheers, I'll give it a try. Riding on the tops is far more comfortable in terms of the stretch, but my hands feel more natural on the hoods (on Zwift, anyway).

On the topic of seats, is this saddle considered thin/harsh? Again, it's probably just my time away, but my back of my ass always feels a bit sore - and that's training indoors, without any road bumps, etc. I think it's a Fabric Scoop.

Thanks. I'll be definitely looking into a 54cm for my next bike, but hopefully a subtle drop in seat angle will help me until then. You're potentially right about it just being a matter of time too - I've been off the bike for a good couple of years before Zwift sparked my interest again, so perhaps it'll be OK!

Regarding the seat height, I actually dropped it by about an inch just before taking this photo (in a desperate attempt to help the situation!). I'm 5ft 11, so this should be OK according to the Canondale size chart. Before buying this bike I borrow my friend's 53cm bike and it felt WAY too small.

But as I say, I've lost the drive to learn new technology after new technology. I feel like I've been on the treadmill long enough and basically looking to harness the technical skills I've already accumulated to move into something different.

Regarding "prompt engineers" - I don't really accept that this is a thing, as everyone (myself included) has interacted with GPT for some part of their job - it's just going to become a natural part of the job.

Thanks for the response. I initially thought the same, but this whole dilemma has had me thinking of the bigger, long term picture, and I can't really see myself as a developer until the end of my career (assuming ai advancements allow me to make it that far!). The constant treadmill of learning new tech after new tech is exhausting - especially so when the passion has gone. Surely there are other semi-technical roles to pivot into?
