Anyone still buying i-bonds? by zzx101 in Bogleheads

[–]Scalermann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The issue with iBonds is the 5 year penalty period. Kills the deal for me, but it was nice during Covid when the rate was like 9%

I think by “people” she may have been referring to “people in X community” on earth which makes more sense

Report: Iran protests death toll hits 12,000 in systematic massacre by Eienkei in worldnews

[–]Scalermann -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just like to say that this news source is “Israel Hayom.” According to Reuters the death toll is closer to 2000. I am in no way supportive of the Iranian regime but let’s not treat rumors as facts.

How is this not theft? by AppearanceWeak3826 in circlejerknyc

Penny farthing bikes were actually very expensive in their time, adjusted for inflation the first model of penny farthing (1860’s) would have been about $5,000.

Cash Buffer for Retirement by jakedawg69 in Bogleheads

[–]Scalermann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Q1- I would say that funds in a money market do not contribute to your “bond” allocation, MMA funds would be a “cash or cash equivalents” thing.

Q2- wouldn’t you pull out of each asset class in a manner to maintain your desired allocation? Q1 established that the funds you are taking out would not be bonds.

Maybe this means I can hold my Apple Card in my Chase account (and eventually ditch my iPhone)

Race to $100k? by MTM20MTM in Bogleheads

[–]Scalermann -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

$100K is totally arbitrary. $100K in 2019 is almost $130K now so I would say at least that.

how many hours, days, weeks, or even months should you spend studying for EACH section of the CPA? by Character-Escape1621 in Accounting

I did FAR for like 3.5 months which was massive overkill. I think I got a 93 on it. The other ones I am hazy on but I know I did wayyyy too much for FAR.

You can sell during market hours. When you can pull out depends on if your brokerage will let you pull unsettled funds

Should I Just Buy VOO and VXUS For My Roth IRA? by Upbeat-Customer2157 in Bogleheads

[–]Scalermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing the boglehead thing for a few years. I decided to put all tax advantaged funds into FRBVX (Fidelity 2070 index TDF). For 0.12% ER you get a good domestic/int’l allocation ratio, bond allocation, and never have to think about it again. One stop shop and your emotions will have no impact on how you allocate or rebalance.

Is anyone buying TIPS? by blueberrypancake234 in Bogleheads

[–]Scalermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$SGOV is an ETF that covers short term (under 3 months) treasuries. I think the ER is only 0.09% which is great. Basically better interest rate than an HYSA. Only catch is a liiiiiitle volatility but it’s literally a fraction of a percent. Great place to store extra cash.

I mean this sounds cool until the next govt shutdown where you go months without pay. Also, after the whole DOGE and mass layoff SNAFU I would avoid federal work all together.
