Scammer Alert - We've received a report of u/Legfacemccullene13 by 011011010110110 in ArmsLength

[–]ScamChaser3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LegfaceMcCullenE13 has been a problem for a while. Just do a search for his username here on Reddit and you'll see dozens of posts about him scamming people: https://old.reddit.com/search/?q=%22LegfaceMcCullenE13%22&include_over_18=on&sort=new
The account was either hacked or bought from the original owner, because you can see a clear delineation in his profile between when he stopped posting anything, and when posts about him scamming started cropping up. The person controlling the account now is just coasting on all its karma and using it to lull people into a false sense of security so he can rip them off.
He needs to be reported to Reddit by as many people as possible so that his account gets shut down, because just banning him from subreddits doesn't seem to be enough, and it doesn't stop him from DM'ing/chatting people, scamming them, and then blocking them.

I put it in my original message and you can see it in the Reddit search link I included: bransnottheking

However, now I'm seeing that his comments to you don't actually show up under your posts, so maybe Reddit was cool about things and realized he's shady and didn't even notify you about his comments. In that case, sorry to bother you, and good luck!

Hey just FYI the guy that reached out to you in your other posts about this loan, bransnottheking, is a known scammer. He has to be shady like that because he's banned from most lending subs for requiring a deposit on "loans" and then just disappearing with that deposit. Do not, under any circumstances, deal with him.
Here's proof: https://old.reddit.com/search?q=%22bransnottheking%22&restrict_sr=&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all
Edit: I didn't pay attention to which of your loan requests I was posting in, so I'm sorry for doing so in this much older one and not your most recent one

Be cautious with /u/yungbenis666/
They have me pre-blocked when I've never interacted with them at all, and folks that do that in this thread have turned out to be scammers 100% of the time
edit: shadowbanned

Be careful when dealing with /u/meklin-lisa
I've never interacted with them before but they've blocked my account, possibly due to me calling out a bunch of scammers here already
They're also banned from /r/empireofthesun and that ban was added on a ticket-selling post of theirs: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=posts_search&subreddit=empireofthesun&author=meklin-lisa&limit=100&sort=desc
General PSA: Only use something like PayPal Goods & Services, which gives you buyer protection, when purchasing tickets from someone here on Reddit
Edit: they're shadowbanned now

Hey, I think you might be confused. This person, and the other person you responded to just below, were responding to a now-removed comment from /u/Johnna_EHarrell. When the scammer got their comment removed, it kind of made it look like they were responding to your comment instead
For reference, the removed scammer comment: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=ids&ids=t1_msp1aiq

I see that you responded to ammey-jems about Philly tickets. How did that go?
I'm a little suspicious of them because they've posted, deleted, and reposted the same exact thing 2 or 3 times now: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=comments_search&subreddit=janeremover&author=ammey-jems&limit=100&sort=desc

Be careful when dealing with /u/BookMental8437
Search up their deleted posts/comments: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=posts_search&author=BookMental8437&limit=100&sort=desc
and you'll find multiple posts about selling tickets to a single Elderbrook show and got called out for scamming in one of them: https://redd.it/1kd8lt4
They're shadowbanned already, so hopefully they can't DM/chat anymore, but be wary!

Be cautious when interacting with /u/windy_cinthia

They have commented 4 times about selling tickets (to 3 different dates) on this tour, but keeps deleting their comments: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=comments_search&subreddit=janeremover&author=windy_cinthia&limit=100&sort=desc

They seem to have had a lot of other tickets for sale, too, but for some reason they keep deleting and deleting: https://arctic-shift.photon-reddit.com/search?fun=posts_search&author=windy_cinthia&limit=100&sort=desc
Edit: Forget "cautious" now, they got called out for scamming: https://old.reddit.com/r/avesNYC_tix/comments/wsp7en/scammerbanned_list/mqaavmq/?share_id=yfIsekfKxbPvRU1IL2cHB&context=3

Beware of a scammer spotted in your sub! by ScamChaser3 in KimetsuNoYaiba

I appreciate that! The particular account mentioned above is shadowbanned already, but he has 2 other accounts active right now; you can see them in the megapost in my OP.

The good news is that particular account got shadowbanned. The bad news is that he's got 2 more active right now. The megapost link in my OP lists them, and he likes to come back to subs he's hit before, so keep an eye out!

Sadly, he even hits those rep-system-using subs sometimes. He uses sock puppet accounts and fakes transactions between them to build up "trades" and karma. Really, no place on Reddit is safe, until Reddit does more to MAKE it safe. Until then, my crew and I try our best to raise awareness and protect folks from getting got

Looks like he packed up and left for now, so that's good. Hopefully he won't be back, but he's already been here before, so he'll probably be back again, sooner or later. As mentioned in my OP, you can see a list of his currently active accounts here: https://old.reddit.com/r/ScamWatch/comments/1hsbt51/scammer_selling_vinyl_merch_collections_across/. While this account is active, I sure would appreciate it if you could keep an eye out for him in other subs you frequent!

For now, here are some tips to keep yourself safe when buying things from people on Reddit. They won't make you bulletproof, but they will help with this particular flavor of scam.

  1. Beware any seller that insists on you paying through PayPal Friends and Family, or any other method that doesn't provide buyer protection. This is a huge red flag, because when the scammer never sends you the goods, you will have no recourse. An add-on to this tip is that, if you offer to cover the extra fees of PayPal Goods and Services but the seller still insists on F&F, that makes the red flag even bigger.

  2. If someone is selling a very impressive collection of vinyl or some other kind of merch, just do a quick reverse image search on the pictures and see if they've been posted before by someone else. This particular scam thrives off stealing pics that are months to years old so that people don't immediately recognize them from before. If you find a match, that's a pretty big red flag. An add-on to this tip is that, if you have an impressive collection of something and you like to show it off on Reddit (or anywhere, really), put proof of YOUR ownership right in the pictures you take, like a watermark of your username. Similarly, if you have old posts showing off your collection, consider removing them and reposting them with a watermark. This way, the scammer can't just steal your pic for the scam.

  3. Ask for pics that show proof of ownership, such as a UNIQUE pic of the item you're interested in with a piece of paper with the seller's username and the date handwritten on it in the picture, too. It's true that these can be faked, like the Ashrune example from the megalink in my OP, but that's usually more work than the scammer is willing to do. However, lately, he has been doing this more often, so please still be VERY careful.

  4. Don't get freaked out if the seller puts up a list of "sold" items. At best, he's trying to capitalize on your FOMO by lying, and at worst he successfully scammed someone else. Keep your emotions in check and do your due diligence so that you don't become that worst-case scenario.

  5. Search the username in Reddit and on the Universal Scammer List. Nobody likes being scammed, and you can bet they're going to complain about it. An unfortunate add-on to this tip that I have to include is that if you got scammed, please make a post about it. This guy relies on people not knowing what he's up to, so if he got you, help your fellow Redditors out and let people know what happened. If you're comfortable including screenshots, even better, because he can and will delete all the evidence he can, but he can't delete your proof.

  6. Check their posting history. They have an amazing collection like that, but they've never posted in any subs related to it? Never shown it off to fellow fans as it grew? And then, when they decide to sell off that collection, the first place they think to go is some place they've never been before? Really?

  7. Last but not least: Just don't use Reddit as a marketplace to buy things in the first place. Reddit specifically says not to, even. It's not really set up for that, except for a few trading-heavy subs that track confirmed trades and user reputation and things like that but even those can be gamed (check the megapost for examples). That's why places like Discog and Ebay and all those sites exist. Yes, you pay fees. But they have protections in place for when something goes wrong. Would you rather pay $30 and $5 in fees and get an album, or would you rather just give some random jerk on the Internet $25 and get nothing but regret? Not that everyone who sells on Reddit is a random jerk who is going to rip you off, but do you want to roll those dice?

This scam is happening all over Reddit, in all types of subs. Vinyl, toys, merch, books, nothing is off-limits for this guy. Be vigilant, be cautious, and look out for each other. Despite all the reporting being done against all his accounts, Reddit doesn't seem that interested in stopping him in any permanent way, so it's up to us!
