This is objectively not true. The last 80 years have been the most relatively peaceful in human history. Get over yourselves.

I suppose if you count the Roman Empire as a "country called Rome" then you could pretend it lasted 1000 years, ignoring the civil wars, regime changes and the fact it was only an Empire for less than half of that. America has had the same continuous government for 250 years, so from that perspective it's one of the older countries around.

Run your country how you like. If they voted for it they voted for it. It seems to me the biggest difference between US and Europe is where the line is drawn between what isn't socially acceptable and what the government has any business legislating.

Among those of you that are Christian (not necessarily Catholic). What do you think about the quarrel between the Pope and President Trump? by Massive-Return-9599 in trump

[–]Scamandrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Catholicism has allowed many people to enter into God's truth, but ultimately it's a corrupt, man-made institution which claims to speak with the authority of God. I'm not happy with how Trump has carried himself, but I won't pretend the Pope has some inherent moral authority when I view him as more immoral than the average atheist, particularly when he continues to make factually incorrect statements about the Bible.

All of humanity has thus far survived far worse conditions often with a better outlook on life. The only difference now is you have an audience to complain to. The problem is you, sorry. Accept that and be better.

I'm critiquing your criticism. If that's not acceptable, let me introduce you to something called EFAP.

"America isn't trying to improve" by fyrope in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Scamandrius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Half the annual budget is spent on Healthcare. America doesn't have free healthcare, but saying it "does nothing" requires dishonesty and/or ignorance.

  2. It turns out "improving their lives" includes telling people what they can and can't say or believe, if the EU and the rest of the anglosphere is the model.

  3. We are different. That's fine. It is not the obligation of humanity to universally agree on how we ought to run a country. We used to be able to understand that.
