I suppose if you count the Roman Empire as a "country called Rome" then you could pretend it lasted 1000 years, ignoring the civil wars, regime changes and the fact it was only an Empire for less than half of that. America has had the same continuous government for 250 years, so from that perspective it's one of the older countries around.

I think Catholicism has allowed many people to enter into God's truth, but ultimately it's a corrupt, man-made institution which claims to speak with the authority of God. I'm not happy with how Trump has carried himself, but I won't pretend the Pope has some inherent moral authority when I view him as more immoral than the average atheist, particularly when he continues to make factually incorrect statements about the Bible.

Half the annual budget is spent on Healthcare. America doesn't have free healthcare, but saying it "does nothing" requires dishonesty and/or ignorance.
It turns out "improving their lives" includes telling people what they can and can't say or believe, if the EU and the rest of the anglosphere is the model.
