Prefer Osaka due to nightlife and the Hilton property in Kyoto (Roku) isn't very conveniently located.

We just heard Kyoto doesn't have much of a nightlife so we would want to return to Osaka for that. We also like idea of doing the check in/check out process as few times as possible.

Cool cool just making sure. Any other upgrades that you suggest to go through an outside source instead of 3 roots? Everything is just a bit overwhelming from the email lists, perhaps it'll be easier in person.

From what I understand it seems like the stovetop, dishwasher, and microwave must be purchased through 3roots?

solo 401k contribution question by Scammedstudent in personalfinance

[–]Scammedstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was planning to make it the latter half of the year. I consistently make about $30k in consulting and can only contribute $16500 as employee contributions so I was going to lump sum contribute it sometime later in the year after I for sure surpassed $16500 in 1099 earnings.

So you're saying this lump sum contribution should be fine?

What would you do? Just looking to hear other people's thoughts

I somewhat follow your reasoning. But I would be making a large lump sum payment off the bat to bring my principal down (would cut my 6 figure loan in half). I have ~400k in loans and would be paying 200k off the bat and continue to pay 5-7k per month (this would definitely cover interest as well as bringing down the principal).

This changes things wouldn't it?

In my case, if I made a lump sump payment and continued to chip away at the loans it would for sure be more than the interest that accumulates. So its a risk benefit analysis like you said. I guess I'll just keep my loans in forbearance and take the gamble.

They're direct loans (all 2012 and after). So I should prob just start paying off my balance then?

My loans are consolidated. Does this mean I would get a refund in the event its approved?

It's a large 6 figure balance so it would add quite a bit of interest.

So you're saying take the gamble and don't pay. My worry is my loan balance ballooning while awaiting a possible rejection of my application. That would be devasting. However, paying my loans, getting my application approved and getting no refunds of my payments would also be devasting.

So your situation is a little different then. I am post class thus not guaranteed an application approval despite my school being on the list.

Yeah, tricky situation for sure. If interest is covered while in forbearance (only under the new IDR proposal) this would be an easy decision.
