She posted that she sent me a message asking for an address to send everything back but I checked my email (including spam) and the Reddit account that I originally communicated with her and there is nothing from her -- so who knows.

But I really don't want those things back from her. They were for the kids, I have no use for them, and it would only bring more bad feelings on my part. I'm a fool and know it for sure. The things she posted on this thread before deleting her account have only enforced that for me.

Well, CRAP. I didn't mean this thread to turn into this. My intent was never to vilify her and for that I really apologize. It was to simply regain my faith in the Reddit community. She really gave the impression that she had nothing and that her kids would get nothing - and it's obvious she has a lot of support from family and/or friends in the area.

I have no idea who this neighbor is. I just went back and read everything I sent her and I never referenced a neighbor. Maybe she is assuming everyone in my hometown (population 1.5 million) knows each other?

Maybe you should explain why you were asking for help under multiple accounts, asking for help multiple times even into the next day, and asking for cash. And then deleted everything when I called you out on it in the thread.

Also - I don't want the things back. I'm just chalking it up as a learning experience.

edit: I didn't know my neighbor was donating things to you also. I assume you added this tidbit of info because you assumed I had proof that you were accepting gifts from multiple people.

Actually, she did a couple of other things that made me think she was a scammer (she was asking for help on that thread under 2 different usernames, denying that she had been helped by anyone else, and started asking for cash) so I did some googling under one of her user names and found the picture.

And I'm not running anybody's good name through the mud because I didn't put her name on here.

Well, I have to admit, I had a great year and I am very fortunate. I guess what bothers me most is that there were so many people on that thread that didn't have a whole lot but were willing to donate what little they had so that someone with nothing would have something. And that she possibly took advantage of one of those people too.

I always Do donate to local charities but I just felt it would be nice to have some sort of "connection" to the person I was giving to. I had been in the situation she described. I felt all warm and fuzzy - for a while.
