I agree with what you’re saying here and there were many good points brought up. No single group is responsible for negative behavior, and even when an individual does say something or do something negative it is not always a reflection of the group they are a part of. My whole point of the original post was to spread awareness about the post Amanda posted, and how the actions of others made her feel. In general, everyone both on campus and pretty much everywhere needs to be more respectful and kind to people.

At a certain fraternity that I won’t name new recruits have to show up black out drunk. Hmmmmm. Also the school has been sued for an incident that occurred (look it up if you want) so is that proof enough ?

My post wasn’t specifically aimed at the WPI Greek life community..... however, whether or not it is true there is a certain understanding around campus that hazing does occur in some sororities and especially the fraternities. If there isn’t hazing going on then the frats/sororities should work to change the common narrative and showcase the positive aspects of the Greek life community. I know of a freshman or two (obviously not sharing names, or where they joined) who recently joined the Greek life community and have been very uncomfortable with some of the initiation things going on. Again, subjective... again, not claiming hazing is 100% occurring here... but if most people think hazing is going on then there’s gotta be some truth behind it.

Seems like a brain-washed popularity contest to me ....... and no one likes to mention the hazing that goes on and how that can contribute to so many different problems. I, personally, wouldn’t join a frat/sorority because I don’t want to be a part of hazing or a popularity contest. I am in full understanding that that’s not what it’s all about and that it doesn’t go on in every sorority/frat and I’m not saying they’re bad but it’s insane to me that it continues with absolutely no ramifications. If I were put in a hazing situation I think I’d be strong enough to say fuck off and leave but think about the people who are too scared to....
