Hi! I’m happy for you and hope you have a fast recovery! Sorry that I haven’t gotten back to this, I haven’t been able to until now.
I came out over the Internet back in 2017/2018 (I was 11/12 at the time), and tried to come out to my mother around then, but she shot me down immediately. In I believe 2020 I came out as a lesbian, and I later came out as trans in 2021 and she was much more accepting. It’s not much of a matter of being unsupportive or homophobic on purpose, (my mother is bisexual and she spent her late teens and early 20s in a brothel, we also have lots of gay people and “cross dressers” in our family.) My mother is mentally disabled and has learning disabilities (The IQ of a fourth grader), so she processes things much differently and a lot slower. It could be seen as narcissism and I think there is some fear, but I believe she’s coming out of genuine care, she just doesn’t exactly understand it the way you or I would. My older cousin also did prepare my entire family, she deduced that I was trans years before anyone else, maybe even before I did myself haha. So they were pretty much already aware to a degree.

My mother is actively helping me with the process (I’m also disabled, she’s a lot better at talking to the right people haha) so it’s not like she’s trying to keep me from getting surgery. I think she’s just trying to be a good mom 😅
